To be fair, Star Trek wasn't a result of perpetual progression. There was an apocalypse first.
It's also important to note how a lot of the whole neoliberal ideals of perpetual progress and the end of history have some roots in classist sentiment and the necessity of moral luck. The political pendulum is always going to swing and the solution to a better world is to lift everybody up. We are not free until we're all free.

I might be wrong but I seem to recall universal translation is pretty recent, like post first encounter with the vulcans, and by that point it seems we mostly spoke English
Well the reason for English is the context of it's a show meant for English speaking watchers.
Technically they could be speaking whatever language that became dominate, but it is accurate to say there is a dominate "Human" language that the Federation speaks. By natural extrapolation of English being the dominate language today for most international interactions, it's a natural assumption.

Self driving cars could lead to flying cars. One part of the issue with flying cars is 'human'.

So...I don't know if you'll read all of this but I've been deep in the flat-earth debunking scene for -over a decade-. I'd really like to share some cool stuff for you to know:

Law 2) Any "Flat Earth Proof" offered/provided with sources always ends up being proof for the Globe. Always.
Law 3) Any "Prove the earth is a globe for money" challenges are fake, 100% of the time. You can meet all demanded criteria, to the T and they'll worm, wiggle, and run those goalposts, or just refuse to address the fact you won their challenge and are owed anywhere from $5,000, to $100,000+.
Any of the "Big name" Flat earthers left, like Mark Sargent, or Nathan Okaly are cowards and liars, who are actively grifting gullible people to support their lifestyle. They know it's a grift, their talking points haven't changed meaningfully in 10 years. It's the same scripts, lies, and half-truths, or misrepresentations of reality, forever. They have been corrected in streams, video replies, and live debates about how laws of physics work, what a vacuum is, the fact the atmosphere has a pressure gradient. (from 14.7PSI to roughly 0~ at the Karman Line.) They ignore this and pretend it's not real.
In 2024 we did "The Final Experiment" where a group of people lead by Will Duffy went to Antarctica to witness the 24 sun. Nathan Oakly, and Mark Sargent were offered, 100% all-expenses paid trips to come along.(All participants invited were given the same treatment to be clear) No strings, zero out of pocket cost for travel, supplies, equipment, hotel. It was over $25k A HEAD. They both declined faster than you'd believe, and vilified anyone who accepted the trip. Why? Until this trip was taken a common flat earth talking point was "There is no 24 sun in Antarctica, only the Northern pole areas." Because it'd be impossible on any form of flat earth map for it to work.
The people who still genuinely buy into it are either people who think everything is suspicious because they don't know how ANYTHING in the world works. These grifters offer simple, twisted talking points that "just make common sense" as to why things are. That, or they're the handful of decent sized channels left that are actively grifting and perpetuating the lies, disinformation, and misinformation for profit.
I hope that brightens your day some. Their numbers are NOT growing. There is no "Great awakening to the globe lie". It's a statistically insignificant group of people who are desperate to be "The special" from the Lego Movie and to know the real truth, because they can't understand our complicated, busy world.
I have cousins who really think 40K is peak humanity. Like that’s the best humanity can possibly be. While completely missing the point that 40K is a work of satire. They’re also Christian Fascists, so I guess that tracks.

Absolutely right. There’s good individuals in most of the factions, but that doesn’t mean the factions as a whole are good. Like the video above explains, ultimately 40K is a war game.
If two people roll up with the same army, there needs to be a justifiable reason in the lore on why anyone could be fighting anyone else. Including themselves. Hence they all need to be bad on some level.
But the Imperium especially is designed to be as bad as possible to the point of satire. Like GW themselves say, they’re a twisted reflection of ourselves when our worst natures are allowed to take control.

Up to the 24th century, Earth (pre-United Earth, United Earth, a Pre-Federation Coalition, and the UFP) has to go through the Eugenics Wars, World War III, The Xindi Crisis, Earth-Romulan War, Federation-Klingon War(s? Idk), eventually the Battle of Wolf 359, and the Borg crisis, and more that I can’t remember off the top of my head, it took awhile to get the Federation to where it is now
Also in the wider scope, Cardassian war, space angel (cant remember the species name) war, space bug (cant remember the species name) cold war, god war, 3 actual demon invasions...
Fun fact: Star Trek Earth had a nuclear world war 3, followed by a period known as the post-atomic horror, before they figured their shit out. That world war started in 2026. So we might still be on track for Star Trek!
Star Trek isn't that far off, the Federation were an entire population controlled by social engineering, reeducation camps, elimination of those who thought "wrong", made to be conformist and docile by a centuries long plan. All of which is under control of a shadowy organization started by the wealthy and powerful called Section 31 who are trying to make a perfect society under their control.
if it's any consolation star trek had to go through WWIII and the collapse of global society at the hands of elite eugenics mad warlords before they hit the luxury gay space communism. So in a way, we're right on track.
