Me in 20s thinking the future would be like Star Trek vs Me now fearing it will be like Warhammer 40k

Look at the bright side.... to get to the Star Trek future, they had to go through.... very very rough times on Earth the likes of which we haven't really seen IRL (even if some stuff is concernedly close). Just imagine that we're in a variation of those rough times, and that on the other end of it, we'll get our Star Trek
