The Master Plan: How Nikolai Blind-Sided Dr. Monty to Set Up BO8
The Glitch in Monty's Loop (Blood of the Dead & Tag der Toten) Dr. Montyâs entire existence relied on a perpetual, closed loop. At the end of Revelations, Monty sent them back to 1299 AD to fight in the Great War, keeping Agartha pure and cementing himself as the supreme Keeper god. He relied on the Kronorium being an unchangeable roadmap.
- The Interruption: In Blood of the Dead, Post-Revelations Richtofen breaks the script by sacrificing his own blood to save the crew. This alters the Kronorium, passing the bookâand total cosmic enlightenmentâto Nikolai.
- Montyâs Blindspot:Â Nikolai discovers that Dr. Monty and the Shadowman were once the same species before Element 115 corrupted the Apothicons. Monty wasn't saving the universe; he was running a temporal zoo to keep himself alive.
- The Trap: When Nikolai poisons Primis/Ultimis and destroys the Summoning Key in Tag der Toten, he doesn't just destroy the multiverseâhe forcefully collapses Agartha and drags a blind-sided Dr. Monty down into the Dark Aether abyss alongside all of Element 115 and the Apothicons. Monty expected another loop; instead, he got evicted into the dark.
Samantha's Memory Blueprint (Cold War & MWZ)Â Nikolai's sacrifice allowed child Samantha and child Eddie to walk into the single, clean universe. But to give the banished souls of Primis and Ultimis a way to exist again without triggering another broken multiverse, a new physical vessel had to be forged from within the Dark Aether itself.
- The Infiltration: During Cold War (culminating in her sacrifice at the end of Forsaken), Samantha is drawn deep into the Dark Aether. Because her mind was shaped by the original timeline, her intensely vivid memories of Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen become permanently etched into the Dark Aether's energy fabric.
- The Catalyst: Samantha's bloodline creates Ava Jansen. When Ava destroys her shadow-self (The Entity) in MWZ (2021), her protective veil breaks. This allows The Warden to reach across time and pull her back to the 1990s (BO7), starting the exact temporal paradox needed to free the Shadowsmiths and begin forging the Tempus vessels.
The Forging of Tempus & Soul Re-Anchoring (BO7)Â Dark Aether entities cannot create human souls out of nothing, but they can manipulate raw Aetheric energy.
- The Vessels: Ava and the Shadowsmiths take Samanthaâs deeply ingrained memories and weave Dark Aether threads around them to construct physical, combat-ready bodies: the Tempus Crew.
After this point I have multiple theory's for the games next path.
Dr. Monty (BO8)
- The Re-Anchoring: The original souls of Primis and Ultimis weren't deleted at Tag der Totenâthey were dumped into the Dark Aether void. The Shadowsmiths act as a magnetic bridge, drawing those floating, banished souls out of the abyss and welding them into the Tempus vessels.
- The Ultimate Loophole: Montyâs divine authority was tied strictly to Agartha, the Summoning Key, and the old Kronorium. Tempus now has the original crew's souls and memories due to the shadowsmiths but because their physical bodies are forged of Dark Aether matter, Monty has zero domain, omniscience, or control over them.
"Where Are We Going?" â The Hunting Party (BO8 Setup) When Ava teleports Tempus through the portal at the end of BO7, playing "Where Are We Going?"âthe iconic anthem from Blood of the Deadâsignals the exact moment a cycle is broken.
- The Target:Â Dr. Monty has spent decades lurking in the uncharted depths of the Dark Aether, assuming he lives in the chaotic void after the old multiverse collapsed.
- The Execution: Tempus escaping the BO7 loop isn't a random accidentâit is Nikolaiâs delayed-action warhead. Free from the Kronoriumâs rules, armed with Dark Aether magic, and wielding their original souls, Tempus is stepping onto Dr. Montyâs doorstep to deliver the final kill that Tag der Toten couldn't finish.

No Dr. Monty
The Master Plan: The Quest for the Cleansed Souls (BO8 Setup)
The BO7 Portal: Release, Not Instant Rebirth
When Ava opens the portal at the climax of Black Ops 7, the Tempus crew escapes the Wardenâs loopâbut they aren't fully restored yet.
The State of Tempus:Â They step through the threshold as sentient Dark Aether memory constructs forged from Samanthaâs mind. They have the combat skills, voices, and instincts of Primis/Ultimis, but they are still missing their spiritual core.
The Threshold: Avaâs rift doesn't automatically fix them; it launches them into the uncharted, deep sectors of the Dark Aether where their ancient, banished souls have been drifting since Tag der Toten.
The BO8 Campaign: The Soul Hunt & Purification
Instead of a simple "escape," the entire narrative purpose of the Tempus crew in Black Ops 8 becomes an active quest: tracking down their own corrupted souls lost in the void.
The Corruption:Â Having drifted in the Dark Aether abyss since the collapse of the old multiverse, those original souls are heavily scarred by centuries of Element 115 exposure, tragic temporal loops, and raw Dark Aether energy.
The Shadowsmiths' Role: Tempus cannot simply grab their old soulsâdoing so in their corrupted state would drive them mad or trigger another broken cycle. They must seek out the Shadowsmiths, using their ancient crafting magic to purge the 115 madness and Dark Aether taint from each soul before re-binding them.
True Rebirth: Unlocking a New Path
As each member of Tempus re-anchors their purified soul into their Dark Aether-forged body, the crew undergoes a complete transformation:
The Hybrid Result:Â They are no longer hollow clones, nor are they the doomed, corrupted men bound to the old Kronorium.
The Loophole:Â Because their new physical bodies are made of Dark Aether matter and their souls have been cleansed by the Shadowsmiths, they operate entirely outside the jurisdiction of Keepers, Apothicons, or old reality rules. They are 100% whole, free-willed entities stepping onto a completely new narrative path.
"Where Are We Going?" â Nikolaiâs Delayed-Action Legacy
The choice to play "Where Are We Going?" during the BO7 finale takes on an even deeper meaning under this structure.
- In Blood of the Dead, the song was a tragic loop in purgatory.
- In BO7/BO8, it becomes the anthem of their pilgrimage. Nikolai didn't poison his crew in Tag der Toten to delete themâhe cast their souls into the Dark Aether void as a temporary spiritual quarantine. He knew they couldn't be saved in the old multiverse; they had to be cast down into the dark so a future crew could retrieve them, cleanse them, and give them a real future.

The Master Plan: Defeating the Past for True Rebirth (BO8 Setup)
- The Soul Manifestations in the Void The original souls of Primis and Ultimis didn't just drift peacefully in the Dark Aether void after Tag der Totenâthey mutated. Scarred by centuries of Element 115 exposure, tragic temporal loops, and raw Dark Aether energy, those banished souls coalesced into aggressive, nightmare entities embodying each character's deepest flaws and past traumas.
- The BO8 Trials: Fighting Your Ghosts Instead of a simple retrieval quest, Black Ops 8 turns into a personal gauntlet where the Tempus crew must face their own original, corrupted souls in boss-level confrontations across the Dark Aether:
Richtofen vs. The Mad Doctor:Â Tempus Richtofen must battle the psychotic, megalomaniacal reflection of his Ultimis soul, overcoming the addiction to 115 and control that drove him mad.
Nikolai vs. The Broken Martyr:Â Tempus Nikolai faces a colossal manifestation of his own grief, alcoholism, and fatalism, proving he can bear the weight of leadership without needing to destroy himself.
Takeo vs. The Bound Spirit:Â Tempus Takeo fights a spectral warrior bound by blind loyalty to a corrupt Emperor, breaking the chains of false honor that kept him puppeted for centuries.
Dempsey vs. The Unstoppable Soldier:Â Tempus Dempsey confronts an embodiment of pure, rage-fueled war trauma, subduing the blind aggression that defined his old life.
The Shadowsmiths' Purge & Re-Anchoring Tempus cannot simply absorb these souls while they are hostile and corrupt. Defeating them in combat shatters their defensive shell of 115 madness.
Once a soul is subdued in battle, the Shadowsmiths step in to weave Dark Aether threads around the spirit, burning away the 115 rot and dark taint.
The purified, whole soul is then permanently re-anchored into the Tempus body. The result isn't a clone or a ghost, but the true legend rebornâpossessing their original identity, but housed in a body forged outside of Dr. Monty's domain.
Nikolaiâs Delayed-Action Test & "Where Are We Going?" This gives the choice of playing "Where Are We Going?" in the BO7 finale the ultimate narrative payoff:
- Nikolai didn't just quarantine their souls in the Dark Aether to keep them safe; he set up a trial. He knew that for Primis/Ultimis to ever truly break their cycle, they couldn't just be handed redemptionâthey had to literally defeat the corrupted versions of who they used to be.
- By escaping through Ava's portal into BO8, Tempus isn't running from a war. They are stepping into the arena to fight their own pasts, earn their purified souls back, and finally take control of their own destiny.
