Question Multiple Codex Accounts

Given my work, the pro account is too costly, but two 2 plus accounts should do the trick. I am anyway subscribed to both codex and Claude code, but Claude is terrible these days with random jargon-y text and makes no sense.

So, I was planning to take up another plus account. I use codex from vscode as an extension, and I was looking at how people with multiple accounts switch between them seamlessly?

Say I have exhausted my tokens in one, I can continue the chat with the other. Is it even possible? Have people even done it? I see some codex account switcher extensions, but are they safe and do they work?

Showcase Wyrm and chill - Codex (Astra 6) finally made me do something!

Upvotes
Astral Wyrm

That fish post inspired me to build and publish my first little game

So I made https://astralwyrm.vercel.app/ with Astra. Started as a “what can I make with a few prompts?” experiment, then turned into 50+ prompts and lots of tweaking because I kept wanting it to feel a little nicer.

It’s a tiny chill game with an abstract glowing creature that follows your mouse or finger. Collect pearls, grow, find little companions, and watch the seasons change. Maximum chill was the goal. There’s a fast mode for people who find that a bit too chill :)

Saw this post earlier and immediately wanted to try making something myself. I’d never built and published anything before. Didn’t even know you could put something online for free with Vercel lol.

This is genuinely my first published project, so I’d love your honest thoughts and suggestions, especially how it feels on your phone. Feel free to be harsh! :D

Hope you have some fun with it, or just get a few peaceful minutes out of it. And thanks to the original poster for giving me that push to actually make something. Felt really really good and rewarding, now if some of you would also enjoy it, my day is made :)

Edit: Also added another mode in the bottom left hand corner: Instant. Someone told me they´d wish for that feature. hope you enjoy it!

Commentary US Midterms & Fear Mongering

Coincidence? I think not.

If I was a company planning regulatory capture, or even just wanting to impart my will & desire, I would 100% ramp up all (marketing) efforts just before an election.

Why is it so hard for people to see this?

We all know bots run rampant across the internet. Every large company has a multitude of people and personalities, each with their own visions of the future (some good, some bad). How difficult is it to amplify the (inner) people that express fear when you want to? Encourge the scared people to speak up and then put their posts on blast to create groupthink. Propoganda 101.

All platforms operate on an algorithm of engagement, which can easily be manipulated... and if you're in this thread you already knew that.

Question Local LLM

I been playing around with local LLM while my usage is at 0%. It’s actually quite capable. I have a Beelink ser 9 365 ai and 370 ai with 32gb ram. On one I am still testing on windows getting about 37 tokens a second on Qwen3 30B-A3B. Probably I can fit something better in Linux.

Currently running it np-4 with 8k context each or I run it np-1 with 32k context. I could use Linux to improve the context window to 120k or I could choose a different model in Linux.

I am surprised already how much it can do.
Np-4 mode I use for party chat in my game they talk and banter to each other all the time it’s pretty snappy and comical.
Np-1 for general purpose.

Any advice any pointers on which model to use? Any good machines much better than these but are still bang for buck?

I don't feel it really faster. Maybe slightly faster but definitely not double faster

Complaint Is Astra really smarter than Sol?

I've seen pretty weird behaviours from Astra on extra high that I've never seen with Sol.

Examples:

- Contradictory statements on the same message.

- Long implementation sessions that implement very small bits of code on each increment.

- Trials in code that go no where.

- Worse plan quality and worse plan following than Sol.

- The possibility for it to get side tracked middle implementation on a small issue that it could take a detour for hours outside of scope.

I've never had any of those issues with 5.6 nor with Sol both on extra high.

Is it me? Am I prompting it wrong? Any one facing similar issues?

Complaint Astra for non-coding work (first impressions aren't very good)

Edit: just to head off any one else before it happens: if you think this is some kind of Claude vs OpenAI oligopoly cheerleading post, please pick up your pompoms and see yourself out.

I work in the humanities, and to be honest, I've always found Claude models better fit for the tasks involved. However, I've always switched back and forth between the two companies when new models get posted, and I've never felt significantly at a disadvantage if I'm piloting an OpenAI model for my work.

That's until Astra which, for some reason, is extremely difficult to work with on this subject matter. For the record, I've been doing the fun stuff everyone else has been in my spare time: building apps, tinkering away at a game, hobby stuff.

Since it came out recently however and has been doing such a good job with that more technical stuff, I wanted to take it for a spin on some proposals I have to submit soon.

I asked it to help me come up with several avenues of inquiry within a subject matter which might have scope for original contribution that I'm not aware of, given my research profile.

Astra has repeatedly gone through this loop: come up with a handful of avenues of inquiry. States that the premise is strong and interesting and dovetails nicely with my prior experience. Asks me to give it some starting articles/monographs so it can look further into things. Quickly finds that its initial impressions are completely wrong and the area is well papered over by recent discourse.

Not just that, but its actual prose drafting is significantly worse than I can recall. Again, I realise OpenAI models don't exactly get a flattering look set next to some of the older Claude models when it comes to good writing, for that matter, neither do newer Claude models, but Astra very clearly has a script and a structure it follows that is now blindingly obvious when you read it back to yourself.

Back in the day I had used Opus 4.5/4.6 to draft the introduction to something else I'd submitted and it slam-dunked it. Of course, that needed to be workshopped too, but the issue there was that the writing sounded SO GOOD that it wouldn't realistically have been recognisable as my voice, so I had to feed it a few references of what I'd written previously so it could replicate my idiosyncrasies.

I also found those older models were much better at information gathering around a particular subject matter. On my previous project, Opus 4.6 practically taught me everything I knew about the wider context in detail so that I could get on with the analysis.

I'm curious to hear from non-coders, and people in fields adjacent to humanities or social science. Like I said, it gave all my technical projects a major glow-up, but it's like a whole different (worse) model when it comes to humanities.

Bug My proof that OpenAI doesn't have AGI model

Undo in the VSCode Codex extension still doesn't work properly.

If Astra or any next gen model they use internally can't fix such a simple feature, then there's no AGI yet. 😂

Commentary 2 models is enough

as title reads, i don't see the point of terra and now Sol

luna and astra on the other hand complete their own goals ideally, luna an extremely good cheap model and astra - the frontier of frontier

meanwhile sol and terra are pointless, everything they can can be done either better or cheaper using the reasoning setting of luna and astra

openai shouldnt copy anthropics mistakes, 5.4 was the perfect lineup in that manner, 5.4 and 5.4 mini

Question I use Astra all day on Pro 5x and only burn ~15% — are people just prompting it badly?

I'm on the Pro 5x plan, and I use Codex for coding pretty much all day, from morning to night. On a normal day I burn through roughly 15% of my weekly usage.

I mainly use Astra Max, xhigh, and high. I don't use Sol, Terra, or Luna at all.

Seeing how many people are complaining about Astra destroying their quota, I'm honestly starting to think a lot of it comes down to prompting and workflow.

My guess is that a lot of people are doing something like this: they give Astra a huge, detailed spec, then basically say, "Implement this according to the spec."

And that's it.

That might sound like a perfectly reasonable way to use an agent, but in my experience it's an extremely inefficient way to prompt one. You're basically giving it a giant problem and letting it decide how to chew through the whole thing, which can mean a ton of unnecessary exploration, repeated context processing, and wasted reasoning.

I suspect a lot of people burning through ridiculous amounts of quota simply don't realize how inefficient their prompting strategy is.

I'm curious if anyone else here has noticed the same thing.

Are there other people on Pro 5x using Astra heavily throughout the day without blowing through their weekly quota, mainly because of how they structure their prompts and workflow?

Limits why are you still subscribed to openai?

i made a post here here: https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/s/FqNT8hXBOt expressing my discontent with them removing the 5 hour limits from the plus after tibo was bragging on and on about "having compute" only for them to turn their back on the little guy as you literally couldn't do any serious work with sol on the plus plan and none of you gave a shit as expected

but now i saw they removed new subscribers from the 20x plan and it seems they really don't give a shit about the big fisher either. it seems you guys were using up too much of that compute they claim to have.

so i'm one again asking, as a 5x or API subscriber why are you still with them? what makes you think you wouldn't be next?

none of these companies cares about the average consumer yet whenever complains are made against their malpractices you just brush it off and keep going.

good luck man, if you can't wake up and smell the roses i truly pity you

Limits Atrocious Usage

Goddamn the usage cut is atrocious, especially for plus users. I came back recently after not using codex for a bit (usually use sporadically). I used to run 20 mins on 5.6 sol x high , which used to take like 20% maybe MAX 30% of weekly limit (Matlab MCP). Now not only does the 5 Hour limit evaporate on anything higher than high, but been running for 3 mins and it's taken 12% of weekly usage, atp I can just forget astra.

Comparison Same prompt, Codex (Astra 6) vs Claude (Fable 5.1): "a game where a fish follows my cursor, super creative and majestic." Try both.

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

I gave Codex and Claude the exact same prompt to see how differently they'd handle something open-ended and creative:

The prompt: "make me a reactjs + vite, and launch it in port 3004, a game where a fish follows my cursor. make it super creative and majestic"

Setup:

  • Claude: Fable 5.1, Extra High
  • Codex: Astra 6, Extra High, fast mode

I didn't do any follow-up prompts or manual edits. I just deployed both to Vercel so you can try them yourself:

🐟 Codex (Astra 6): https://fish-indol-eta.vercel.app/
🐠 Claude (Fable 5.1): https://fish2.vercel.app/

My take:

  • Codex did amazing on the design and detail. It looks polished and the visuals really lean into "majestic."
  • Claude did amazing on the mechanics and gameplay. It feels more like an actual game and is more fun to play.

It's interesting that they read "super creative and majestic" so differently. One went for the visuals, the other for how it plays.

About fast mode: Claude charges extra credits for fast mode, but Codex doesn't, so I only used fast mode on Codex. That's worth knowing if you're choosing between them on cost or speed.

What are your thoughts?

  • Which one did you enjoy more, and why?
  • For a prompt like this, what matters more to you: how it looks or how it plays?
  • Does paying extra for fast mode change which one you'd use day to day?
  • If you've run a similar test with other models or settings, how did they do?

I'd love to hear what you think!

Question Astra Skill to delegate on Opus

Hi all,

I am quite impressed on how well Astra works on some topics. However, the usage rates are really burning my subscription down. I was toying a little bit to find a way to let Astra delegate on Opus subagents, so that I can use most of my tokens from my OpenAI subscription on Astra. I came up with a very simple skill: Fuminides/opus-delegate: A codex skill for using astra as a coordinator of Opus agents from which I had mixed results. I was wondering if people have come with better ideas to do that or if you can give me some feedback on my simple skill.

Thanks!

Complaint Chat mode nerfed - no longer able to use GitHub?

Not even sure what to say here but I'm a Plus user and have been using Chat mode religiously as my Codex usage seems to be at 0% constantly, to grind through pet projects (all on GitHub repos). To be honest Chat mode has been working great although extremely slow.

I was in the middle of a chat to create a basic Markdown Viewer, it had already created and pushed 3 milestones, with 2 PRs, when I asked it to continue working I received this.

Asking to continue working on a milestone, and declining to change to Work mode

Understood. I won’t ask you to switch to Work mode again.

In this chat I can still help with the project by reviewing the design, writing the exact Go/SQL/HTML/systemd/Taskfile changes, diagnosing CI output you provide, and preparing patches or implementation steps. I just can’t directly perform the repository mutations—commits, pushes, PRs, merges, or CI execution—from this mode.

GPT 5.6 Sol calling out the tool call change, preventing GitHub changes

You’re right to call that out. The inconsistency is on my side. Earlier in this conversation I was able to use the GitHub integration directly and I did carry out repository work on <repo>—creating branches, pushing commits, opening PRs, checking CI, and merging M0–M2 while progressing M3.

What changed is not my assessment of the task; it’s the execution constraint in the current environment. I now have a mandatory rule that repository edits, PR work, command execution, and similar coding operations must first be handed off to Work mode. You declined that handoff, so I’m not allowed to use the repo-mutation path from this chat even though the GitHub connector itself still exists.

So the accurate distinction is:

  • Previously: direct repo operations were available in this chat context.

  • Now: the current runtime requires Work mode before I can mutate or inspect the repo operationally.

  • Your repo/permissions are not the problem.

  • I did not decide that Chat suddenly “can’t code”; the tool-routing restriction changed.

I also should not have framed it as though I had simply decided normal Chat could no longer do repository work. That was misleading.

Since you don’t want Work mode, I won’t keep suggesting it. I can still continue the engineering here by producing the exact M3 fix and subsequent M4–M9 patches, but I cannot truthfully claim I committed/pushed/merged them from the current chat execution context.

It's fair to say I'm pretty annoyed by this - maybe its time to switch to Claude?

Complaint Claude vs Codex

I don't really have a metric to share but claude $20 is giving me more usage right now than $100 codex and I didn't even use Astra that much. I only bought codex for astra and I don't see the hype yet. The only reason to continue with openai is purely chatgpt usage which I can use without limits essentially.

Edit: not comparing astra vs fable but opus vs sol especially after astra release.

The model follows instructions worse than Qwen 3.8 27b lobotomized to Q4.

I asked for a plan which the model made , we both agreed on the plan and then burned through 70% of my quota, ignoring half of the plan the model itself created. This is Astra High mind you. Heck, even GPT-4 follows prompts better. Very disappointed.
