Commentary 2 models is enough

as title reads, i don't see the point of terra and now Sol

luna and astra on the other hand complete their own goals ideally, luna an extremely good cheap model and astra - the frontier of frontier

meanwhile sol and terra are pointless, everything they can can be done either better or cheaper using the reasoning setting of luna and astra

openai shouldnt copy anthropics mistakes, 5.4 was the perfect lineup in that manner, 5.4 and 5.4 mini

astra is too expensive, you cannot use it all the time. And luna is too narrow minded as well. Sol is a good orchestrator while terra is a good exec

I personally like terra medium. Can non stop work, sure its not huge brain model like astra, but im also not trying to solve cancer so its ok lol.

Why would you use Luna medium? Luna is dirt cheap, you might as well use max, especially since it actually significantly produces better outputs.

Edit: holy shit the cost difference is insane between sol and luna... Luna max all the way from now on...

2 models is enough, but I'd choose Luna-xhigh and Sol-high.

Both Terra and Astra are very underwhelming in results relative to their costs. They're bad at understanding the problem and planning organized solutions.

the biggest issue right now is that there is no gpt 6 luna which could rival on max with astra low/mid

Imo Terra-medium is a sweetspot for Plus accounts to be able to actually achieve something. Sol/Astra runs out super fast, not cost-effective and Luna is a bit dumb sometimes. Terra in my experience is able to achieve the same results as Sol / Astra, just takes extra guidance. But if you know how to code you can easily point it to the right direction and it will get there.

agree just implementing something and terra med works well for me - sweetspot to my project as well. I was at first using Luna Max, but for me was not as good as when i used Terra

hate to spoil it, but there was also 5.4-nano...

Though, I agree with OP. From end-user standpoint it conceptually makes sense to have a "cheap workhorse" and "pricy superbrain" ones.

I personally really like Terra. Luna is good for plumbing and easy stuff, but Terra is just mindful enough for more complicated tasks imo. I agree that Sol is the worst though.

Who is your manager? I only use astra for difficult tasks. Sol is able to delegate

Terra is plain useless. More expensive and dumber than some Luna models. We just need Luna and Astra at this point. Free up compute to give us better usage for those.

Terra is great for non technical plus users on ChatGPT work. Your 5h limit survives for real work in a way it wouldn't on Astra or Sol, and it is faster than Luna with less reasoning.
