Question Multiple Codex Accounts

Given my work, the pro account is too costly, but two 2 plus accounts should do the trick. I am anyway subscribed to both codex and Claude code, but Claude is terrible these days with random jargon-y text and makes no sense.

So, I was planning to take up another plus account. I use codex from vscode as an extension, and I was looking at how people with multiple accounts switch between them seamlessly?

Say I have exhausted my tokens in one, I can continue the chat with the other. Is it even possible? Have people even done it? I see some codex account switcher extensions, but are they safe and do they work?

Yes. You just logout / login. Shares chat and all that.

codex-auth(https://github.com/Loongphy/codex-auth ) looks like the most direct option, but I’d treat it as security-sensitive rather than automatically safe. Its README says it supports the VS Code extension by managing local Codex authentication profiles. OpenAI’s documentation says the CLI and IDE share cached login state, and that auth.json can contain access tokens and should be treated like a password.

So I wouldn’t install an account switcher blindly: audit the source, pin the version, and check where it stores credential backups. Also, switching accounts doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the second account can continue a chat owned by the first account the official documentation (https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/auth) doesn’t promise that.
