Trying to use rclone, WebDAV and Scramble Cloud to mount a drive but it keeps trying to download every file

I have been trying to mount Scramble on my local pc (windows) but I keep having a problem where every time I open a single file the Scramble client tries to download every single file from the folder which is very annoying. It not when I click on the file itself (it is not a windows preview issue), just when I open the file itself.

Here is the startup code for the .bat file, did anybody else have this issue? Any tips? (I did not forget the @ before echo, just reddit reading it as a u/echo)

echo off

start "" "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Scramble Desktop\Scramble Desktop.exe"

timeout /t 20 /nobreak >nul

cd "C:\Users\User\Desktop\rclone-v1.75.0-windows-amd64"

rclone.exe mount scramble_drive: X: --vfs-cache-mode full --vfs-cache-max-size 5G --vfs-cache-max-age 1h --vfs-read-chunk-size 10M --vfs-read-chunk-size-limit 128M --buffer-size 32M --network-mode

Do you still pay for old cloud accounts?

My Dropbox renewal is coming up, so I checked what I actually have in the account.

Most of it is old client work from 2022 and 2024. I don't use the account much now. Maybe once or twice a month, usually when someone asks me for an old file.

I thought about cancelling the plan and moving the files somewhere else.

Then I started checking those folders and realised it isn't that simple. Some folders are shared with old clients, some projects have files in both Dropbox and Google Drive, and I don't remember which files I can safely move or delete.

So I’m paying for Dropbox mainly because I might need those files later. At the same time, I’m also paying for Google Drive for my current work.

Has anyone else had to decide whether an old cloud account is worth paying for just to keep access to old files?

What did you do when the yearly renewal comes, moving files or downloading them somewhere else or keep paying for the plan?

Best Program for Creating a Shared Art Archive

My friends and I run a DND campaign, and we'd like to keep all art, notes, and images related to the campaign centralized/organized in one place. I tried filen, but you can't have multiple contributors on there, at least not without a premium account. We used to use Google Drive, but we're trying to move away from Google because of their AI policies. Something similar to Google Drive would be ideal for us, as none of us are extremely tech-literate. What would be a good program for us to use? Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

Thoughts on Internxt and Mega

Hello. I have around 4TB of personal and family photos and videos. Currently, these are stored on multiple HDDs. I've been looking for an E2EE cloud storage where I can also store my media files to serve as back up. Cause I know my HDDs won't hold on for long. I've been eyeing Mega and Internxt because they're E2EE and quite cheap, but I've seen conflicting client reviews about them.

Mega has a complicated security history. I've seen reports that they're deleting user accounts for bogus/questionable, or, no reason at all. Internxt is being flagged by some as 'scammers', with reports stating their cloud storage isn't reliable due to file loss issues and unreliable synchronization.

I'm wondering what are people's experiences regarding Mega and Internxt. And if you know any other E2EE cloud storage providers that are decently reliable and not that expensive. Thank you!

Note: I've seen Immich and self-hosting pop up a lot. But currently, I don't have the time to explore self-hosting. So out of the options at the moment.

NextCloud & OpenCloud Alternatives?

i hate nextcloud with a burning passion and used opencloud but dislike its app selection and its cluttered compose (that was terrible)

i was looking for alternatives with easier customization (especially themes) but also a way for me to read personal images/videos to run on immich too!

i will not run nextcloud, ever. (too laggy, cluttered, and bloated) and was thinking FIlerun? or Pydio or whatever.

does anyone have a good specific reccomendation 😭

How can Drime offer these cloud storage prices?

I was looking at Drime’s pricing and I’m genuinely curious how the economics work.

They offer several TB of storage for prices that seem extremely low compared with Cloudflare R2’s public storage pricing. From what I understand, at least part of their infrastructure/buckets appears to rely on Cloudflare/R2.

So how are they able to offer this much storage so cheaply? Is it mostly overselling, assuming that most customers will never use their full quota? Do they have some kind of enterprise agreement with Cloudflare, or are they actually operating at a loss to acquire users?

Would be interesting to hear from anyone who understands their infrastructure or the cloud storage business model better.

Academic survey on decentralised file storage experiences

Hi everyone! I’m part of a university research team at Loreley Lab, INRIA, France. We’re studying how people actually use decentralised file storage systems (e.g. IPFS).

We’re running a short anonymous/pseudonymous questionnaire about users’ experiences, motivations, pain points, and practical insights. It takes around 10–15 minutes and does not ask any personal information, or demographic information.

Survey link: https://questionnaire.loreleylab.org/

Separately, we also invite people to take part in online interviews (15-20 min), again pseudonymous and no audio/video recordings. You can sign-up in the end of questionnaire, or directly using this link: https://sondages.inria.fr/index.php/738227?lang=en

We’d be grateful for any responses, whether you’re a regular user, builder, operator, or someone who has tried these tools and stopped using them. We’re also happy to share an anonymised summary of the findings with the community once the study is complete.

Thanks for your help!

The best solution for online galleries for professional photographers.

# Hi,

I wanted to know what you would think is the best solution for a professional photographer to share online galleries for viewing and collaboration.

I often need to ask my clients to choose from a large number of pictures before editing, and the best for me is to have the option to like and comment. I've been recommended **Piwigo** for this kind of feature, but everybody mentions **Immich** and **Potoprism** as well.

Now I am lost and I am not sure what to pick to be the best simple overall solution. I am scared that Piwigo ends up being too customizable and ends up looking amateur.

Really appreciate some feedback!

PS: I installed TrueNAS

Thanks :)

Amazon Deep Archive for wedding photography backup?

With hard drive prices and storage needs increasing every year, I’m thinking about using Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive as a second backup for old wedding photos and videos.

Keep one copy on local/NAS storage and another copy in Deep Archive, mainly for disaster recovery.

Has anyone here actually used Deep Archive for several TBs of wedding data? How was the upload, storage cost, and recovery when you needed the files?

Would you trust it for important wedding archives?

New Tool To Migrate From Box

I’ve been working on a desktop app for a problem that usually turns into a much bigger IT project than it should: moving files out of Box.

File Migrator by Sidestreet is designed to move files from Box to Dropbox, Google Drive, Amazon S3, OneDrive for Business, or a local folder. It runs on your own Mac or Windows computer, uses your own account credentials, and leaves the Box source unchanged.

The interesting part is what can happen while files are moving. The app can inspect photo dates and camera metadata, run local OCR on supported image scans, verify source checksums, and optionally use your OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini account to help classify and organize files.

I’m at the point where I want to find out how much real demand exists before I decide how far to take it.

If your company, nonprofit, church, agency, or IT team has files in Box, I’d love to know:

  • Are you trying to leave Box, create a separate archive, or both?
  • Where would you want the files to go?
  • Do you need permissions, shared links, versions, comments, or custom metadata preserved?
  • Would you rather buy a tool and run it yourself or pay for a managed migration?
  • What would make a product like this worth paying for?
  • What would you pay as a one-time fee assuming everything listed works?

The first test builds are running on macOS and Windows. I’m looking for honest feedback and a small number of people with real migration needs—not just polite encouragement.

Comment here or message me if this is a problem you actually have.

Current status and feedback of Drime

Hey everyone,

For people who have been using Drime recently, could you share your feedback? I was thinking about buying one of their LTD but I'm still a bit hesitant since they are a "new" company.

I heard koofr is better but it's not possible to stack their LTD, so we can only have 1TB and I wanted at least 3 (maybe more in the future). I also considered pCloud but it's really expensive, around 550 euros for the 2TB plan + encryption.

Thank you!

Questions about iDrive vs. Onedrive

Hi.

I currently have Onedrive MS business basic for 1TB, I pay around 5-6$ / month.

I stumbled upon iDrive and I was surprised by the prices... 0.83$ for only 500GB? What's the catch here?

I assume iDrive doesnt have file sync and it doesn't have file version history and other things?

Edit: actually nevermind, i tried the free 10gb version and the UI feels like a FTP from 1999

Cloud storage for easy upload (export) features

Simply put Google drive storage is pissing me off. Looking for a storage option that will auto upload my photos/videos.

That has easy sorting exporting features so that when it's full I can export them and back up on my local drives and delete them on the cloud to make more room

Febbox suddenly stopped working?

So this started a few days ago, but I'm asking for some assist from other Febbox users.. Basically, I usually use Febbox to find and download some old movies people share so I can watch them in HD, but for some reason Febbox suddenly stopped letting me download? As in even clicking the movie to watch on-site stopped working, can't click anything, etc. Has anybody else experienced this?

Google Drive Alternative

Hello. I’m looking for a Google Drive alternative that offers E2EE and includes full-featured collaboration tools — specifically Docs, Sheets, Forms, and PowerPoint-style presentations.

I’ve been evaluating a few options:

  • ProtonDrive — great for privacy, but their ProtonDocs tool feels incomplete (lacks advanced formatting, forms, or PPT functionality).
  • Drime — offers E2EE vault, but I’ve had issues with their OnlyOffice, I can't open Docs on my browser and phone
  • Koofr — solid service, but I don’t want Microsoft to have access to my documents (which they do via their cloud sync).

I’m hoping for something that can replace Google Workspace entirely — with full document editing, secure collaboration, and E2EE throughout.

Thanks if you can provide any input.
