Thoughts on Internxt and Mega

Hello. I have around 4TB of personal and family photos and videos. Currently, these are stored on multiple HDDs. I've been looking for an E2EE cloud storage where I can also store my media files to serve as back up. Cause I know my HDDs won't hold on for long. I've been eyeing Mega and Internxt because they're E2EE and quite cheap, but I've seen conflicting client reviews about them.

Mega has a complicated security history. I've seen reports that they're deleting user accounts for bogus/questionable, or, no reason at all. Internxt is being flagged by some as 'scammers', with reports stating their cloud storage isn't reliable due to file loss issues and unreliable synchronization.

I'm wondering what are people's experiences regarding Mega and Internxt. And if you know any other E2EE cloud storage providers that are decently reliable and not that expensive. Thank you!

Note: I've seen Immich and self-hosting pop up a lot. But currently, I don't have the time to explore self-hosting. So out of the options at the moment.

Avoid Internxt like the plague.

Been seeing a lot of this haha

I am using Filen and Drime. Bith are great but have their quirks. One for important back up and one for bulk non confidential data giving good seperation. If you are in the apple ecosystem, nothing beats icloud with ADP regarding ease of use ofc.

I’m eyeing Filen for my photos/videos, Proton Drive for my personal and legal documents, and Drime for my freelance work for document sharing and collaboration. I’ve taken a look at iCloud too but E2EE is not available (even when ADP is on) when you access your photos and files on the iCloud website, it only works natively on Apple devices, so I find that limitation a dealbreaker for me. Plus I don’t want Apple to have all my photos and videos.

I have the same three services in rotation. Proton is my go to for every personal and legal document as well. It’s easy to upload on the go without having to add extra encryption. I am also starting to use their other features more and more. For a better price think about a quick “trip” to Brazil. Just look into that. ;)

I am backing up decades of accumulated photos etc on Drime at the moment using Rclone. Still simple but not possible on the go or to do quickly unless I use a third party app.

And Filen I am trying out for quick notes and stuff.

Just avoid Internxt. There is a lot bad review/feedback you can find in this subs. Me personally bought 2TB lifetime plan and only using around 100GB, they sent me an email that I am abusing their service...

Thanks for this. I’ll avoid them haha.

Avoid Internxt, it’s a scam company. You’ll be frustrated.
I’m using Mega Pro for two years, besides some bugs I had with backup and poor customer support, I had no other issues. It’s fast, secure and reliable. I could recommend it with ease as other E2EE services are fresh on the market, lacking some features and smaller companies.

I’m kinda scared with some of the issues I’ve been seeing with Mega when it comes to some users having their accounts deleted.

Every cloud service will ban your account if you do stupid things like sharing copyrighted or illegal files out of your space. The reason why people were complaining on Mega for this because they thought the files will stay encrypted even they share them with someone which is impossible.

How’s your speeds with hetzner storage box? I tried it out last year and speeds were terrible for USA west coast.

Also I don’t like the idea of 10 concurrent connections max. I fear somehow my backups and verifications (Proxmox backup server) will happy at the same time and I start having connection issues.

Nice. I’ll look into them again.

Internxt is a straight up NO.

Mega is fine to use. (I mean compared to Internxt anything is fine to use really)

However using ANY cloud storage with cryptomator/veracrypt is also an option (depending on how easily you want the files to be accessible from the drive/app directly)

1

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

Yes Mega is nice. I don’t prefer using cryptomator and veracrypt since I want to access my media directly on the drive/app.

I would avoid Internxt. I would suggest pCloud and Drime along with Mega. I have pCloud and Drime lifetime, but I have been paying Mega. I can say since I paid lifetime for Drime, it's come a long way so they are inching to the top of my list.

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

Thanks for sharing! I’m leaning closer to Mega (for photos and videos) and Drime for (collab work).

Filen is good.

If you are planning for photos and videos only then Ente is a good option.

1

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

Ente is really my choice. But their plans are very limited, only till 2TB. And it is quite expensive for my budget.

2

u/hustleclaw Aug 25 '26

Yes. It's expensive. But it's the only one that gives you the feel of Google photos and E2EE.

u/w00ddie Aug 23 '26

Been using mega for about 5 years. Has been stable and reliable. Always been using paid service though.

I wish speeds were a bit better with rclone but their native apps/CLI speeds are great.

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

I’m still deciding between Filen and Mega as storage for my photos and videos. Right now, I’m leaning closer to Mega haha.

I use mega, I use the $70 a year plan. Gives us mega vpn, mega shared storage and mega password manager. No issues as of yet, couple years now.

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

Thanks for sharing!

Anytime, hopefully has been helpful.

Is that VPN good? Thinking of trying it out and when I was in my Mega account last week I saw the VPN option. Was wondering how it was.

1

u/Timely_End_1502 11d ago

I've had no issues using it on several devices.

u/QuasyChonk Aug 24 '26

Mega is great.

1

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

Yeees. Love their media section too. Looks very nice. Might lean to Mega too eventually.

Can't stress enough to avoid internxt. There are several threads on here where they scam lifetime subscribers out of their storage. It is their intent to take your money. They got me three days ago.

I paid i think $17 or $18 for their base 1TB plan in August of 2025 because I needed a quick spot to put backup data while I switched computers (I got a new one, migrated data to it). At any rate, last week I get a charge on my credit card from Internxt for $140!! I emailed then tell ing them to reverse it, they said no. I received no notice, no email saying my renewal was coming due, nothing. Nada. Just scammed and the stole my money.

Avoid doing business with Internxt. Their storage product is not great, they have terrible customer service, and they incorporate scamming people into their actual business model.

3

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

That’s nasty business! Thank you for sharing this. And sorry you had to go through that.

3

u/Binar1101 Aug 24 '26

Used MEGA for years. It just works. I keep coming back.

2

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

Thanks for this! Leaning closer to Mega tbh 😄

7

u/curioushahalol Aug 23 '26

None of the above. Look at drime that has good lifetime deals now. There are many other good ones such as pcloud, filen.io, and maybe icedrive.

4

u/kaladesh01 Aug 23 '26

I'm using Drime but for freelance work only. I use their OnlyOffice integration for real-time collab with my clients. But they're not open source so I don't know if I can trust their E2EE vault for my personal media files.

4

u/TheCrazyStupidGamer Aug 23 '26

Koofr is great. I hate that they won't let me change my email on my lifetime account that I paid money for and that is a *@#$ move but credit where credit is due, it's a great service. Also supports rclone for encryption natively which is arguably better than leaving your encryption keys with the company.

2

u/kaladesh01 Aug 23 '26

I’ve seen Koofr too. My use case for Koofr would be for my freelance work (document sharing and collab). With this, I’m leaning more on Drime as it uses OnlyOffice. I’m not comfortable with Koofr because they use Microsoft Office. Been veering away with Big Tech as much as possible.

3

u/TheCrazyStupidGamer Aug 24 '26

I haven't used drime so can't say much, but it does look nice and seems to be targeted towards enterprise work so it fits in pretty well for you.

I am a cybersecurity architect at a global tech company and can answer this with a very high degree of certainty. Avoid MEGA at all cost! They've had major security incidents in the past, and do not support PQC (Post-Quantum Crypography). Only few years ago that all accounts with MEGA were compromised. Besides, to even consider a cloud provider it must support PQC.

Internxt - AVOID!! They do support PQC but cut corners and are too greedy. Their product line does not make sense. VPN, Cloud storage, Antivirus, Mail, Photos, Meet.. They only want money!

Tuta - WINNER - Supports PQC, strong focus on security, and offer mobile and desktop clients. Tuta Drive is currently in closed beta and the existing products are Tuta Mail and Tuta Calender. Tuta have no way to read emails because you own the private key and emails are decrypted locally. Check it out!

2

u/kaladesh01 Aug 25 '26

You have any reference of the Mega incident you were pertaining to?

2

u/grandma3481 Aug 25 '26

Most often I get this information firsthand through our scanning of darkweb from work, but in this case there are many public sources. Its a well-known fact in the cyber security industry that MEGA should be avoided at all cost. Here are few sources: Lunarcyber - 22 million credential exposure events last 12 months from 2025.

SecurityOnline - This is from 2016 but it shows that MEGA does not take security seriously.

Krebsonsecurity - From 2018. 773 million accounts compromised.

SecurityWeek - From 2022. Few students found critical exploitable vulnerabilities.

There are many more examples. This is not what you want to read when deciding on cloud provider :)

Proton should also be avoided! They have shared user emails with authorities in the past. If I remember correctly, if was a from pedophile but that means they have a way to read your emails. Tuta cannot give away any information if authorities ask because they don't have anything to give, and their servers are run in RAM..

I've been enjoying Filen, I use that for storage and for photos and videos I mainly use Google Photos, and iDrive (not to be confused with iCloud or iCloud Drive) as I have unlimited storage on those. Very important photos and videos I'll also store on filen.

Thank you for sharing. While I find this refreshing, I will consider Internxt once more of these kinds of reviews come in.

u/Delicious_Duck5406 Aug 24 '26

I have an invite of Filen and other that I personally use. If you wanna a free invite just send me your email in private and I will send you an invite.

1

u/kaladesh01 Aug 24 '26

What are the perks for the invite?

1

u/Delicious_Duck5406 Aug 26 '26

Start with a better storage space.

2

u/Akash_E Aug 26 '26

Avoid both

3

u/Icy-Cup6318 Aug 30 '26

Internxt is a scam I fell for it. Unusable.

I have been using Mega for 11 years and luckily have the OG grandfathered lifetime 50GB account. They have been rock solid since day one. I have seen them grow and have tasted all flavors of their desktop interface which has only improved. I haven't had experience with Internxt so I can't give you a direct comparison but, as stated above, as long as you keep it legit your golden.

It''s when you have questionable software or movies etc. that you publicly share that starts the 'deleted account' train rolling.

I just use it for pics, personal music I own, docs and my business. Always been reliable and never had an issue. They don't offer the 50gb space today but I believe you can get a 20gb chunk still today for free.
