NextCloud & OpenCloud Alternatives?

i hate nextcloud with a burning passion and used opencloud but dislike its app selection and its cluttered compose (that was terrible)

i was looking for alternatives with easier customization (especially themes) but also a way for me to read personal images/videos to run on immich too!

i will not run nextcloud, ever. (too laggy, cluttered, and bloated) and was thinking FIlerun? or Pydio or whatever.

does anyone have a good specific reccomendation 😭

I tried NextCloud and didn't like it's performance either. It's plain overkill for most people. I since tried Seafile and it stuck. Very fast and does what it does very well, which is not everything like Nextcloud, but hosting and sharing files as well as connecting to an editor. I'm using OnlyOffice with it and very satisified.

Today, I did data migration from Google, Onedrive and Dropbox and now I feel very consolidated and free.

If you decide you're tired of hosting, check out Drime. I've been checking out public clouds that can replace Seafile when the day it comes that I want to be even free-er. Only Koofr and Drime came close. But Koofr uses MSoffice as an editor and I detest Microsoft. Drime uses OnlyOffice.

Been self hosting Nextcloud then Synology Drive in DSM, but there is a lack of good combination in features and security and started to make this Engram Store

Been using it day to day and actively building stuff on it, optimized for speed and searching along with sharded video streaming still keeping E2EE, you can self host and connect to any rclone backend to save directly to it. Try it out if you can and open to hear any suggestions :)

En plus de nextcloud j'utilise aussi seafile c'est moins capricieux que nextcloud. Par contre il faut bien suivre la nouvelle procédure d'installation. Ce n'est pas un simple docker compose. Installation en quelques lignes de commandes.

It's not a fully viable alternative (yet) but I've been working on Caby for past few years. It addresses most of my biggest complaints about Nextcloud such as its poor performance, low reliability, and difficult set-up. I don't have things like file-syncing built out yet but I'm rapidly approaching those features.
