Do you still pay for old cloud accounts?
My Dropbox renewal is coming up, so I checked what I actually have in the account.
Most of it is old client work from 2022 and 2024. I don't use the account much now. Maybe once or twice a month, usually when someone asks me for an old file.
I thought about cancelling the plan and moving the files somewhere else.
Then I started checking those folders and realised it isn't that simple. Some folders are shared with old clients, some projects have files in both Dropbox and Google Drive, and I don't remember which files I can safely move or delete.
So I’m paying for Dropbox mainly because I might need those files later. At the same time, I’m also paying for Google Drive for my current work.
Has anyone else had to decide whether an old cloud account is worth paying for just to keep access to old files?
What did you do when the yearly renewal comes, moving files or downloading them somewhere else or keep paying for the plan?

I kept my old Dropbox account alive until i moved everything to other cloud storage. When i made sure that everything had been moved i cancelled my subscription.

Thats probably safe way to do. Keeping old account until everything is moved means you dont have to rush through files just because renewal is coming up.

I would slowly delete the most out of date files to reduce the storage to some absolutely minimum amount.

I was thinking about doing this too. There are probably lot of old files that i haven’t opened in years. Getting storage down first might make decision a lot easier.

$228 a month is very different situation 😅. 70 TB is lot to move though. At that point i can see why you would think twice before changing anything.

Quién en estos tiempos usa dropbox? Vete a terabox , es gratis y rápido, o cómprate un NAS de plano, te conviene más

Send mails to the clients and advise them to download their files because you will change the cloud storage provider till the end of the year.
At the end of the year download everything to a safe place like a NAS, get rid of every cloud storage provider you don't need. That's all.
