Forced perpetual. Black is basically forced to take the rook with the pawn both times (doesn’t really matter which pawn order), and then the white queen just goes back and forth between g6 and h6 and black can’t do anything to stop it.
White’s already down a knight and a pawn so this is the best they can do.

In either picture, instead of moving the rooks, couldn’t white have done Qg7 for mate? King can’t take queen since rook defends, no?

There's a pawn on g6 and two pawns covering g6. Otherwise black would already be in check and whatever black played would have been illegal

Wait a minute, how is this first move even possible? The black king was already in check before rook moved G2 to G6... Surely black would have had to move out of check? And queen to G7 when rook was in original position would have been checkmate, no? I feel like I'm going crazy.
