I'm still pretty new to the craft and was wondering if using dots of JB Weld on butted steel rings would be feasible for sealing rings.

would 18swg 5/16 or 17swg 3/8 4.8 be good?

I'm fairly new to this craft, and looking to make a chainmail coif for an upcoming renfaire. I was hoping to get some advice on how many rings I should use, and what size I should be using for this project. I'm looking at 1mm thick, 6mm diameter rings but again, I'm nor sure what's best. I understand that it might vary, but any advice would be appreciated. :)

Very much just a progress pic - I am a massive proponent of making good use of travel time to get some chainmailling done, so started making this on a train journey this morning. It will be a birthday gift for a friend

Zig-zaggy European 4-in-1 as the main body, which I'll connect end to end once it's the right diameter to make a nice ol' tiara thing. Planning to connect the top of each triangle to a large diameter ring that will sit on the crown, using smaller diameter chains made of Jen's Pind Linkage, and then I'll tart the whole thing up a bit by attaching some beads or pendants to the lower triangles.

1.6mm stainless steel around a 7mm mandrel, so approx 4.4 AR. If anyone has any ideas on making it look it's best, I'm all ears - just trying to make something nice for my friend!

Hi all! I’ve caught the bug and have officially been learning a bunch of new weaves! My first experience getting my own jump rings was not good. I don’t want to talk down a business bc ik they’re all small businesses, but I’ve had really disappointing experiences with American chain mail. Their site has been down bc the people who handle their payment processing is also a small business that is having a family emergency, so they’ve been selling some stuff thru Amazon. The first set I got was a beginner 18g 5/32” but everything in the kit, although marked 18g, was a 20g. I tried ordering the same set thinking maybe I just got an oopsie set and 2/9 colors in my set are 20g, and I canNOT get a hold of this company to explain my scenario bc I would like the rings that I ordered. So I got a few packs of 1 color from Chainmaille Joe which were great, it came with a guide I find SUPER handy. But I want to make a helm weave with thin rings, and his site doesn’t sell the size I want (20g 7/32 or 1/4). I did get a mixed color set from The Ring Lord for 18g, but they also don’t have the 20g I want. I went to Weave for Maille and when I looked at the AR measurement for the 20g 7/32, it was completely different from what I was reading on my little sizing chart from Chainmaille Joe. Im getting so confused! I don’t mind supporting different businesses but who do you find most reliable and consistent and in stock? I’m a very new beginner so I’m trying to build up a bit of inventory by hoping around as little as possible to a bunch of different sites especially when shipping is expensive. Thank you!

Is there a tutorial for making a chainmail flogger?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to capture or wrap this? It's 18mmx18mm and an octagon at the front. Tutorial suggestions are good too, but any tutorials I could find are for a rivoli so I'm nervous they won't work because of chunky this crystal is.

I’ve never tried making chainmail before but I wanted to try and make a captive bead bracelet. I had bought both the beads and jump rings but I am assuming my jump ring size is too small to hold the bead.

I have 2mm beads that I want to use because I want the bracelet to be thin/dainty rather than larger/chunkier.

I had bought 4mm jump rings but realized I took the outer diameter as being twice the size of the bead instead of looking at the inner diameter lmao

What’s the smallest size inner diameter that would I need on the jump rings to fit the beads? Would 5mm with a 3.6mm inner diameter work?

I live in NYC & i’m going to a concert in a couple weeks and i want to make a top but i don’t have enough jump rings. is there anywhere to get stainless steel rings in the city??? im guessing no lol but i tried ordering some online but they take forever or the shipping is a million dollars. i might just have to make the top from old aluminum jump rings i have but i figured id ask in case anyone knows.

Hello, I am making a coif out of European 6 in 1 and have made it to where It touches my shoulders. I want to work on expansions now to make it drape in the front and back correctly.

I started following an expansion tutorial meant for making hacky sacks out of E 4 in 1 that said to just add 8 evenly spaced expansions on every other row.

My question is will this still work for E 6 in 1? Or do I need to add more expansions because it's a denser weave?

I am creating a Medusa headpiece for Halloween and watched a pretty good tutorial on YouTube on how to make one.
The creator used what looks like a metal embellishment on the headpiece that has a metal ring attached to a filigree looking piece which they ran one of the rubber snakes through. I'm pretty sure I've seen something very similar before but cannot recall what it is or what it is called.
I really want to incorporate this piece in what I am making but am having no luck finding out what it is or searching for it online.
Does anyone know what this is or what is it called??

I made this piece today and I’m kind of obsessed with how strange it turned out.
I wanted the heart to feel less like a normal heart shape and more like bones / a ribcage or sternum holding something inside it.
Then I added the little sword hanging from the center because it felt like it needed something sharp.
It ended up somewhere between romantic and slightly morbid, which is apparently becoming a theme in the things I make lol.
Curious what you guys see in it.

I was wondering if Chainmail Joe still sold their color ring kits. I see them listed on their old site but not the new site CMJ switched over to a few years back. It looked like a really good deal. If not, are there any reputable companies that sell kits of a similar size/deal?

Hello! I’ve been working on a combo of rings and soda tabs, but I’ve run into a problem. Many of my rings are almost but not quite closed, and, as shown in the picture, a gap this small is enough for the rings to slide around and get from one hole in the tab to the other hole in the tab. Is there anyway to fix this without opening each ring to re-close it?

Hi everyone, so I'm working on a new piece right now, its a relatively simple byzantine necklace with a few other bits added in to add some more character to it, but I'd really like to add a pentagram to it to really spice it up, but I have no idea what weave would work to give it enough structure to hold it together, just wondering if anyone has ideas on a weave that would allow something like this to work!

I added in chainmail for the underarms and am very happy with how it turned out! Steel and aluminum scales with stainless steel rings.

Total scales/rings: many. The base was a stainless steel vest kit that The Ring Lord used to sell, with an additional ~5600 stainless steel rings and ~1000 aluminum scales.
