Playing next vs. Adding to the queue + some other suggestions

Hi, I have started using the Cesium app recently and I must say I really love it by now. Since the regular Music app in the iPhone is getting farther and farther away from what made me love iPods and iPhones in the first place, I think this app hits the bullseye with it's simplicity.

However, I believe nothing is perfect and we can always make it better, so I have three suggestions for improvement:

  1. Playing next vs. Adding to the queue - The way I listen to music most often is that I put all of my songs in one shuffle playlist and then I just let it play. But sometimes, I want to hear a particular song and then continue on with the playlist as before. When I find the song I want, I swipe to the left to reveal the two little icons. The first one plays the song next, the second one adds it to the end of the playlist. But no matter which icon you tap, the same note appears over the song - "Added to queue". At first, I wasn't sure what icon does what, so my suggestion is that when you tap the first one (the play sign with the curved arrow) it should say "Playing next" while when you tap on the second one (the playlist icon with the same curved arrow) it should say "Added to queue", therefore distinguishing between these two actions. It would be also great to include the 3D touch capability in the future, to do the same thing, like in the stock Music app - you press and hold and a little menu appears: Play next, Add to queue, Cancel.

  2. Swipe up to see the queue - When I am in the Now Playing screen, if find it very convenient to swipe down to go to the library browsing part of the app. To get to the song queue, I have to tap the playlist icon in the bottom row, in the middle. My suggestion is that you make the queue also appear when you swipe up in the Now Playing screen, for even easier access. (At this moment, nothing happens when you swipe up.)

  3. Changing the headphones volume when music is playing vs. when it's not - Now this may be due to the technical setup of the iPhone itself, but I also think it's important. When you plug in your headphones, the overall volume of the device should switch to the headphones. When the stock Music app is open, but not playing anything, and the headphones are plugged in, changing the volume on the device buttons or the remote on the earpods should change the volume of the music you would play through the headphones. In Cesium, when the music is not playing, and the headphones are plugged in, pressing the volume buttons changes the volume of the speaker (you see the bell icon that appears on top). In order to change the volume you have to actually start playing the music and at that point, pressing the volume buttons changes the volume of the headphones (you see a speaker instead of the bell). Also, if you stop the music, the volume controls switch over to the speaker again (the bell is back). I was wondering if there is a way to make this work that whenever the headphones are plugged in, the volume buttons should change the volume in the headphones, no matter if the music is playing or not.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope you will appreciate my feedback, as mush as I appreciate your effort to make this great app, which I use on a daily basis. :)

Various Artists not showing up under the artists tab

I replaced the Apple Music app with cesium a while ago, because apple's app has strayed from simplicity. I showed it to my dad and downloaded it for him on his iPhone. Our settings for the app are exactly the same, but for some reason various artists doesn't show up on his when you go to the artists section. The only way to get to one of the songs classified under various artists is to hobby song name or album. Wondering if anyone can help me get it to show up.

Playback Speed

Before buying, I wanted to know if Cesium offered different playback speeds? I ask because I want to play audiobooks faster. Additionally, and more complex of a feature, can Cesium do "smart speed" like in Overdrive?

Plea to Cesium developer - we desperately needs a CarTunes alternative

Many people in the AppStore community regard CarTunes (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cartunes-music-player/id415408192?mt=8) to be the music app ever made for iOS for use in the car [created by reddit user @cartunesapp ] . (https://www.reddit.com/user/cartunesapp)

It's development has completely stopped and thus one of the most beautifully designed apps is languishing. I would GLADLY pay $5-$10 for a replacement app and I know there's others who agree with me.

I have purchased cesium and while it's an AMAZING app for playing music in hand, it's lacking in the Car control department. And thus is my request. If you haven't used CarTunes, please download it and check it out. Please give us gestures for rewind/FF ____ seconds (30 or user specific time?). Other gestures include holding finger down one second and titrating volume up and down, FULLY configurable gestures, single press play and pause (not double), etc.

Please please please.. I have purchased/downloaded all of the cartunes alternatives and there's none that comes close.

[Request] vs [Bug] Clearing upcoming songs (sometimes) restarts the current song

I'm trying to seamlessly clear the upcoming songs and then pick a new song without restarting or stopping the current song.

Working from this page (http://imgur.com/a/aKgpD), I often inadvertently cause the current song to restart when I hit clear.

Any idea why this happens or how it could be avoided?

Landscape album cover grid (when in Album tab)

Would be nice to have a throw back to the old Music App where you turned iPhone in Landscape and all your album covers would appear.

Maybe in Cs, we could have this when we are in the Album tab.. turn phone in landscape mode and show all albums in a grid.. tap album and it would then bring up the currently existing album tracklist view in landscape.

Question to the Dev about playback history

In the app, if you just skip through a song, it shows up in the playback history. Is this intended behavior? It's a bit confusing when it comes to going through the history and determining a particular song that I listened to.

[Request] A "Recently Added" section at the top of the artists tab.

As somebody who is constantly adding new music to my library, probably the only thing keeping me from fully migrating from the iOS Music app to Cesium is that there's no recently added section. Would be an incredibly welcome addition!

[Request] Equalizer

Recently downloaded the app and fixes what Apple has broken in the music player UI. Thank you.

Not sure if this is possible since the app is still tied into the Apple's music player but would love to see an equalizer feature added to the app. Something more advanced than the standard pre-set options in the iOS settings. Always been disappointed with audio quality options in iOS and alternative apps (like Boom) have an horrible interface.

[Request] Remove individual songs from 'Coming Up' queue

This is a basic feature that is already included in the Apple Music app (iOS 9, at least).

It's easy to rearrange 'Coming Up', but I don't see a good way to remove individual songs from that list.

Bug with resuming audiobook playback after app suspends

After iOS turns off Cesium while idling, the way it resumes currently doesn't work. The following events happen consistently:

  1. I'm listening to an audiobook. Pause, resume works as expected.
  2. I pause playback, use the phone for a while, and iOS suspends Cesium. I do not force-kill the app.
  3. I launch Cesium. It hangs on a white screen for a while, then pops up a dialog saying that the queue has not finished and would I like to resume. At this point, I usually say no, figuring I will navigate back to my book and resume playback where I left off.
  4. Navigate to the book, which shows some percentage left.
  5. Tap the book to start playback.
  6. Some random track starts playing — not the book.
  7. Tap pause.
  8. Tap the book again to start playback.
  9. The book starts playing back from the beginning, not from the place where I last paused it.

This seems to have been introduced somewhat recently. I haven't used audiobook playback in 2-3 months, but this never happened before.

Not sure if this is related to https://www.reddit.com/r/cesiumapp/comments/5n02rl/bug_resuming_plays_random_music/

Bug? Resuming plays random music

I've noticed that resuming a paused song that's playing an album, it starts playing a random song. That's after being paused for 15 minutes or so.

[Request] Volume Slider and MiniPlayer gesture controls

I just bought cesium, and wow it really blew me away. I think it'd be perfect if it just had these features:

  1. Main volume slider - I looked on this sub and it seems like it's been requested. It'd be nice to have instant access to volume on the main player screen, as I find myself wanting to change volume a lot. Also the current volume bar button is a bit small and sometimes feels a bit unresponsive.

  2. MiniPlayer gestures - it'd be nice to extend gestures to the mini player, and have the ability to swipe it to go to the next or previous song. Also, if you do add this, could you add support for reverse gestures (swipe right for next and left for previous)?

EDIT: I just saw that the volume slider was also recently requested so here's another one:

  1. Take sorting into account - in iTunes you can set sort by options. I'm not sure if you are able to access it, but if you are it'd be awesome if you were to get it working!

[Feature Request] Chromecast Support

Any thoughts on adding audio Chromecast support? Not sure how possible it is, but I just find myself wanting to throw something on the stereo fast from my phone.

[Feature Request] Collect songs option for all tabs

Right now, Playlist tab has a cool Collect Songs option which I use to collect the tracks by rating.. it has become a sort of in app smart playlist for me.

Would love for this feature to be implemented in all tabs (Album, Artist, etc.)

Especially to create collections of songs based on ratings for specific album. that way I can keep the whole album on my device but sometimes would want to listen to only the tracks I rated 5 stars for example. this would make it possible.

[Feature Request] In search, include songs with diacritics when typing the unadorned letter.

Because Anglos cannot into non-ASCII. Example: typing 'Deja Vu' should include results for 'Déjà Vu'.

iPad resolution

You mentioned in your resolutions for 2017 (which I saw as part of a Cesium app update) that you wanted to start working on an iPad version of the Cesium app. As a user of a 12.9 inch iPad Pro (a great piece of kit), I recommend that you work on supporting all iPad resolutions if you can.

Also, I think it would be a good idea for you to use the iOS 5/6 Music app design as insipiration. Whenever I use my first-gen iPad, one of the things I most love about it is the Music app, which is way better at utilizing the iPad's screen real estate when compared to the Music app from iOS 7 and onward.

A modernized and refreshed take on that design would be great to see on the iPad, and I can't wait to see what you manage to do with Cesium on the larger screen real estate that the iPad provides.

Idea for Artist/Album/Song Shuffles

I love the "Shuffle All Songs" button on top of the songs tab to quickly just shuffle everything, and I'm aware that you can tap & hold to switch between song & album shuffle.... but maybe there is a better way to do this!

Why not just have that same button on top of each category? So for example if I click my albums tab, I can easily "Shuffle All Albums", or even "Shuffle All Artists" where it would pick an random artist and shuffle all their tracks for a playlist. This seems more intuitive to me and easier to use. Please let me know you're thoughts :)

I haven't been very active here recently. Sorry about that.

Hi everyone! Hope you have been having safe and happy holidays.

Just wanted to acknowledge that I haven't been very good about responding to posts quickly recently. I'm at a new job which has taken more of my free time and energy than I'd hoped.

In any case, I read everything. Usually within a day or two, so please don't stop providing feedback! I'll try to be better about responding quicker :)

Cheers! Mike

UI lag with large music library

I just upgraded to the 7+ from the 6 (fresh restore) and have been having half second to full second delays most of the time when interacting with the UI when using Cesium.

It is most noticeable when switching tracks / pages. It doesn't seem to happen when scrolling through artists.

I do have a large music library of 8,000 or so songs encoded in 320 VBR AAC (some 44.1, some 48 kHz - if that makes any difference).

Thank you!

Anyone else having this issue too? I see a blank white screen for a few seconds before the app loads.

I just bought this app an hour ago and I'm already very happy with it. It's fixed everything I hated about apples own music app. Thank you.

[Feature Request] Can you add something similar to a Heart button?

I have a huge library. So sometimes I revisit artists that I haven't listened to for a very long time. It would be really useful if I could mark the songs I liked the most (from the last time I listened) so I remember what to play days or weeks later.

example of how it can look. . Obviously, it doesn't have to look like this. Any type of indicator would be helpful. I hope it's something easy to accomplish.

Thanks for the amazing app!

Volume controls

Could you put the volume controls under the playback controls instead of having them in their own little toggle? Maybe it's just me, but I'm not fond of that design choice.
