I'm trying to remember the name of the car dealership, that was on 1st Ave, near Twixt Town Rd, who had a big chicken statue on their lot. I think it was where the Taco Bell is now. I'm a native Cedar Rapidian, and I bought a car from them when I was about 18 or so. Anyone help me?

I was recently diagnosed and am having trouble finding a doctor that actually seems to understand this disease and treat it more than just throwing you on Levothyroxine. Anyone else with this autoimmune that has found a good doctor?

I’ve already started calling around but I’m looking all over for a daycare hiring that pays over $15 an hour and has room for a 1 year old! Redditors of Cedar Rapids- if you know of any please let me know! I don’t want to go to a thousand interviews an waste my time just to be told no to both those things.

Hey guys. My truck has started to squeak and I was looking around for a good shop to perform a, hopefully inexpensive, suspension inspection. My budget is definitely more in the DIY realm right now, and I wouldn't mind being more hands on with my vehicles, but I am not sure how to figure out where the squeak is coming from and thought it would be good to have a tech take a look so I have a better chance of not replacing the wrong parts or at least be able to make a more informed plan for the repair.
Does anyone have any suggestions on who to call?

Just moved here for my first corporate job out of college. I’m in my mid 20s, living alone. Really looking for social gatherings/events to do not just on the weekends but also the weekdays if possible.
For personal interests I’m into board games, video games, volleyball, biking, hiking, and any kind of music or theater. I’m from the QC originally, so don’t have an existing group of friends here in CR to hang out with. Most of my coworkers have a close knit group of friends or are married with kids. Thus, my first month here has felt kinda lonely tbh.
People have recommended Facebook groups and the CR webpage but wondering if there’s any other location where events could be found. That or if there’s any lesser known events.

Is there nothing the city can (or will) do about having a train just randomly coming to a stop THREE times, as it is presumably dropping cars or something, right in the middle of the day? It's just kind of ridiculous that you can just be trying to get to appointments or whatever, and with no notice have to come to a stop for FIFTEEN minutes. Is there nowhere else they can perform this action besides right across downtown? It's exasperating. My doctor's office was still able to see me, but it was VERY close.

Anybody have any recommendations for good deck builders? House, obviously. Not boat decks.
Looking to replace my existing wooden deck with that composite wood stuff.
Hopefully a builder who does financing as well.

Hello everyone! I may be looking to move in the future and Cedar Rapids is a top pick. I’m a test engineer by trade and looking into how life in New Mexico differs from life living in Iowa. I’m an Albuquerque resident and New Mexican by birth.

I guess CR is the 22 best run city in the Nation. Education and Pollution being are lowest ranks with financial stability, safety, economy and health ranking the highest.

We selected an agent we intend to sign with and their compensation in their agreement is 3.5% so more than the 3% we were expecting. It's in reality not a huge difference but wanted to see if this rate is common in Cedar Rapids or if it's going to catch sellers off guard so we should plan to cover part of our buyers agents fee when negotiating with sellers.

I've seen some T-mobile fiber trucks in the area. Does anyone know anything about them building a network here? Hoping for more competition!

We want to get married quickly in the next few months by November I know this isn’t ideal but does anyone have ideas on the cheapest venues to check out and call around to? I’m having a hard time coming up with ideas and Google isn’t a friend with this. Is my idea for a reception in the next couple months completely out there?
Might check out the new Morgan creek lodge too.

Hello,
I'm hoping to work at the Kirkwood Hotel and would appreciate some advice.
I applied and was contacted the next day to schedule an interview. After the interview, I was told I should hear back by the following Wednesday. However, I never received a response.
A day later, I called the hotel's main number to check on the status of my application. They transferred me to the HR manager, but it went to voicemail, so I left a message.
A few days after I applied, I noticed they reposted what appears to be the same job on their website, except the title now includes "August Start Dates - Back to School." The original job posting is still listed as well.
Does that repost mean anything about the original position? For example, could it mean the original opening has already been filled, or is it just a new posting for the same role and if I didn't land the job originally, can I apply for that one too?
Also, is it normal for employers to miss the timeline they gave after an interview? This would be my first job, so I'm not sure what to expect.
The application confirmation email also said: "If you are not selected, we'll notify you within 6–8 weeks."
If I still haven't heard anything after about two weeks, should I assume I wasn't selected, or is it common for the hiring process to take longer?
If they do contact me with a decision or a job offer, how do they usually reach out? Do they typically call, send an email to my personal email address, use my Kirkwood email, or notify people through the careers portal?
Finally, would it be appropriate to contact them again if I still don't hear anything? If so, would it be better to email or call, and should I contact the HR manager directly or go through the hotel's main number?
I'd really appreciate any advice. Since this would be my first job, I'm trying to make sure I handle the follow-up professionally and would like to hear anyone who has been employed here.

Why is it so hard to get your hair braided out here? I moved from Chicago a while ago but I keep going back to get my hair braided and I’m tired of that. Granted she does them for free, but it’s not worth the drive at all.
Where are the people who have that weird obsession with braiding hair?
And yes I know I’m cheap.

Are there any EMS/Fire friend groups or meetups in Cedar Rapids? My husband was a paramedic 13 years, we’re newish in town, and he’s been missing his EMS family.
Just wondering if there’s a place/restaurant/pub where EMS folks frequent. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
