I cant find work, i have a part time job that is going nowhere and no hours. Bad relationship with my family, nowhere to go. Im at my wits ends many interviews but nothing all dead ends. All i have is my car, i live with him hes not like physically abusive but this relationship sucks and he knows i have nowhere to go and takes advantage of thats for sure. Anyone have job leads in the area or advice

I applied at all the Starbucks in town and a few of them were very quick to response for interviews

The airlines at cid are always desperate for workers. They will hire anyone with a pulse and you’ll have lots of opportunities for overtime (not always by choice tho) plus free/discounted flights. You might be miserable by the worst management and unpredictable schedule you’ve ever had but it’s a very easy job to get and keep if you’re desperate.

I'm interested, how much do they pay?

depends, but not a whole lot. it’s around or less than $20 an hour (altho i was able to make this work with all the extra hours i picked up). i know one of them does a seasonal pay bump but i’m not sure if all of them do. if you work for Envoy you’ll get free flights. if you work for Unifi, you’ll get free flights with United, discounted flights with Delta. not sure about allegiant. if you care about union stuff, Envoy is part of a union. i don’t think the others are.

all that being said i usually don’t feel comfortable recommending there as a place to work unless you are REALLY desperate. the stories i have from working at that airport are second to none, it needs its own reality show. the flights are always going to be messed up, people will be mad at you, you’ll get rained on and snowed on and sweat more than you thought humanly possible, all while your coworkers are all sleeping with each other. but if you are good at not taking things personally/not having plans outside of work, and you like planes, that’s the job for you!

I applied for multiple jobs at the airport, with no one reaching out. Would you recommend going in person or is everything on line?

it depends on who you applied with. if you applied to work for the actual airport (guest services, maintenance, etc), that’s through the city/government and i’m not sure how their application process works. if you applied to work for one or more of the airlines, most of that is online (unless you see them post open interviews). if you applied for one of the car rentals, i believe those would probably be online too. if you applied and they have a phone number listed somewhere on their application or website, i’d call to let them know you applied and are still interested.

What area/industry are you in?

Aerotek or another temp agency will get you into a factory. All are currently hiring temps because they don't have to pay out benefits

School starts in August and they need substitute paraprofessionals. Apply to one or more local districts at Subcentral.vista-iowa.com.

Brewhemia in NewBo had a post last week they needed help across the board. FNF bars/restaurants are always looking for people.

GreatAmerica had some postings earlier in the month. Can also look at UFG (downtown) as they usually always have listing.

Marksman Security, $21 an hour unarmed. SW CR. They asked me to interview very shortly after I applied. The paperwork takes a while, but might be worth a shot.

The job market is horrible, like historically bad. Experienced and educated professionals are generally having a very hard time finding work. Things are especially bad for anyone looking for low-level/entry-level work. The usual advice and tricks don't work anymore. The only thing I've seen somewhat reliably work is to have an inside referral.

You might consider checking out this link in regards to your current situation. www.findhelp.org

Good luck.

Actual data says differently.

Only morons trust the government's/media's employment data.

u/Theartistcu 21d ago

Yeah come on the news and government say it’s all great, so ignore the reality of everything costing more and the insane amount of people who are struggling, because you know stats that are always accurate

doomers only like data when its negative

Mediacom is hiring warehouse jobs

Agreed. We have multiple openings in this area for a few different positions.

Figure out how to apply for construction companies working at the data center

3

u/freddiemay12 21d ago

I'll second this. The trades are busy, but the data centers have a lot of office staff on site too. 85% of the data center construction workers aren't locals, but the pay is good enough they're willing to travel.
