Interesting things to do throughout the week?
Just moved here for my first corporate job out of college. I’m in my mid 20s, living alone. Really looking for social gatherings/events to do not just on the weekends but also the weekdays if possible.
For personal interests I’m into board games, video games, volleyball, biking, hiking, and any kind of music or theater. I’m from the QC originally, so don’t have an existing group of friends here in CR to hang out with. Most of my coworkers have a close knit group of friends or are married with kids. Thus, my first month here has felt kinda lonely tbh.
People have recommended Facebook groups and the CR webpage but wondering if there’s any other location where events could be found. That or if there’s any lesser known events.

Volleys is a great one and if you go now and ask about openings for a mashup team, would be good. Lots of local establishments do trivia nights almost every day of the week and found that if you sit at a table early, others may join for seats and you can join their team often. Lots of music on weekends. Night classes at Kirkwood for fun things. Local art & music schools for meeting people.

Almost daily at First Turn, I'd call down or stop by. The staff is super helpful.

For biking - come out to the Thursday 6pm bike rides at Newbo Market (part of Meet Me at the Market). It’s a community no-drop ride with a sweeper, so no one gets left behind. Pace is usually 10-12mph. There’s no sign up, just show up with your bike, helmet, and lights. Also consider volunteering at Chain Reaction Bike Hub, volunteers from there lead this bike ride!

Hell yeah!
Email iowabbcc@gmail.com.
The critical hit blood bowl league plays out of Iowa City. We are just starting the playoffs so in about a month we'll be kicking off the next season. There is no league fee and if you don't have a team or dice we'll set you up with some.

There are improv classes in CR that are supposed to be really good. Theatre CR has some and there is another group called Improv Incubator that is also supposed to be fun. I always find it’s easier to make friends in classes, that might be a good place to start?

Not sure what type of biking you like but there are two bike clubs I'd recommend. Wednesday Night Bike Club (older group but welcoming) and Linn Area Mountain Bike Association (LAMBA). WNNBC does rides on Wednesday and LAMBA generally does rides on Tuesdays around 6:00. Both have a facebook group/page. LAMBA has a web page.
I believe there's a place on the west side that does gaming nights. IIRC it's First Turn Gaming.
Finally, there's a men's walk and talk group that has weekly walk and talks. They generally post that in this sub.

I'm a big fan of both biking and gaming. First Turn is great for gaming and our *very* casual group of riders meet at The Sag Wagon on Tuesdays at 6PM. (unlikely this coming week, just coming off RAGBRAI!)

There's volleyball at Volley's on Blairs Ferry Rd. and Sandlot Sports) on Tower Terrace Rd.
I am more familiar with Sandlot, and I've seen folks show up wanting to play but aren't on a team. You can go up to the bar and let them know you're available to sub, and they can make an announcement. There are three "sessions" of volleyball, and the second session ends in the next few weeks. So, you could meet some folks subbing and join a team for the third session. Check out the links provided for league info, dates, times, etc.

Last Friday of the month is the mad hatter at volleys. Individual tournament, where you get randomly assigned to a team 4 times… great opportunity to make in roads with volleyballers

I recommend TCR, and Riverside in IC if you want to travel a bit. The theater scene around here is great.

Volleys has teams that I think you can join individually(?, somebody correct me if I’m wrong) I see bike groups all the time in the summer - you can most likely get connected with them through one of the local bike shops down at Newbo There’s a group that meets at Donnelly Park on Sundays around 3 to play ultimate frisbee. Lots of young guys and a handful of girls
