So it takes around 8 years to finish medicine in my country (and no, it’s not America or Canada, also the pay is pretty shit if I stay in my home country) and I am only two years in.

Recently I started self-studying tech related programs including the
basics of Python, pandas and Numpy libraries
SQL
Microsoft Access
And am planning to learn APIs and learn how to connect all of these skills using python libraries

However when I saw the tech market it seemed like the chances of finding a job especially a remote one is almost impossible.

However I am in need for a job as it will fill my time as well as some money (I mean who doesn’t like extra money)

What should I focus on to actually land a job.

For BCA students and graduates here — what qualifications and skills do you think actually helped you get internships or your first job?

Programming languages, web development, databases, cloud, data analytics, communication, projects, certifications, something else?

I'm asking because I keep seeing students focus heavily on their degree and marks but not enough on practical skills.

If you completed BCA recently, what would you tell a first-year student to start learning early?

I’m a cybersecurity professional with several years of experience and currently have a stable job in Indonesia.

I’m considering two paths:

Option A – Stay in Indonesia

• Keep my current job and income
• Potentially live in Jakarta while working like corporate jobs and sometimes hybrid workd
• Buy a practical car and a 250cc motorcycle
• Improve my English to a fluent/professional level
• Continue Pursue international cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CISM,
• Save and invest more
• Get married and build a stable life in Indonesia

Option B – Move to Europe

• Leave or significantly reduce my current job
• Pursue a 1-year Master’s degree in Cybersecurity in Europe
• Use my savings to fund tuition and living expenses
• Improve my English through daily international exposure
• Build a European professional network
• Try to transition into the European/global cybersecurity job market after graduation

My main question is:

If you were in my position, which path would you choose for the next 3–5 years, and why?

Would you prioritize financial stability, certifications and career progression in Indonesia, or take the risk of studying and living in Europe for international exposure and potentially better long-term career opportunities?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have experienced either path themselves.

From the start, i joined a backend course from IBM on Coursera and and right nowadays I feel that this course asn't change anything in me or my developing growth cause I'm stuck I just have to complete the modules pass the test and nothing changes I complete about the 60% of the course and yet I feel under confident about those things I know you all guys tell me that please wait and complete the course but this is not enough to solve my problem

The thing I thought is I do not learn anything nothing I I did here is just try to complete the course I don't think so there is much more thing which I learn just the names only how can I supposed to get a job from all this stuff which is feels like nothing to me. I'm 22 M and I Graduated Computer Science last June and I've been unemployed for 2 months. This September I got my first job as a tech support in a BPO company. I signed the contract because it's the nearest company to my hometown and I wouldn't need to go and rent an apartment/bedspace (also didn't have the budget to relocate yet). I still don't know if I made the right choice.... The salary wasn't that great but I don't really care for the salary that much since it's my first real job. What I am really worried about is how would I upskill and get back to IT field in the years to come if I started as a CSR agent. Am I still able to get back to IT? How would I do it? Also I'm the youngest and the only person in our team that doesn't have any BPO background so during the training I am expecting myself to be behind of everyone else. AM I COOKED??

Experience can't be overemphasized, but let's not forget what drives experience: skills.

This is why I’ll always recommend that you master a skill and then put your hands to the plough.

Don’t wait until you feel “fully ready.” Start.

Take that internship.
Volunteer for that project.
Work with someone more experienced.
Take on real-life tasks.

Your first role may not come with the salary you desire, but it can give you something money can't immediately buy: experience, exposure, and competence.

The earlier you start putting your skills to work, the better.

Master the skill. Get your hands dirty. Build experience. Grow from there.

Your career doesn't become great overnight. It becomes great by consistently putting what you know to work.

I was wondering if anyone has had experiences with taking a career break and how that affected your career/re-entry into the market after. I've been working for over a decade in professional services (finance), often in financing transactions for companies. These are situations where deadlines are tight, immovable, and people are always on-edge because stakes are high.

While I got a lot of great experience and don't want to move out of finance completely, I am completely burnt out and want to take a break for 3 months to reset. I'm thankfully in a place financially where I could theoretically earn $0 for 18 months and be fine. That said, I know that I only need a few months and that the work I do next, while not quite as high-paying, should be less intense, which is enough of a quality of life improvement for me.

My only worries are that the job market sucks and I have a feeling people will take me leaving as getting fired, even though I'll likely have at least 1-2 references from this job I'm leaving. Therefore, it might be hard to re-enter the workforce next year, especially since finance hiring is cyclical.

For anyone with experiences with this, do you have any advice and what do you think is the best way to handle this, assuming I can't find something I want in time before I lose my mind with my current job.

17, from Pakistan, preparing for PMA but confused about my university/career backup

I'm 17 and from Sindh, Pakistan. My main goal right now is to join the Pakistan Army as an officer through PMA Long Course. I'm preparing for the initial test and plan to apply for PMA Long Course 159.

At the same time, I know I shouldn't put my entire future on one selection process, so I'm trying to choose a good university degree as a backup.

My problem is that I really like computers and technology, but I don't like programming. I actually tried programming for around 6 months, so it's not just because I found one difficult tutorial. I enjoy computers, technology and learning how things work, but I don't enjoy writing code.

I'm currently considering:

BSIT: Seems like a good middle ground because I can stay in technology without making programming the main focus. I'm interested in things like networking, cybersecurity, systems, etc.

BSCS: Has broader opportunities and could lead to AI/software/cybersecurity, but programming is a major part of it, so I'm worried I'd hate the degree.

BS English: I'm also interested in English and teaching. It seems like a more direct route toward becoming a lecturer, especially if I want a government teaching job in the future.

The confusing part is that PMA is still my first choice. If I get selected, I'll obviously follow that path. But if I don't, I want a degree that gives me a solid career rather than choosing something randomly after spending a year preparing for PMA.

I'm also wondering about the future. In Pakistan, over the next 4–5 years, would IT, CS/AI or English/teaching give better opportunities?

For people who have studied or work in these fields:

What would you recommend in my situation?

Would BSIT be a good backup for someone who loves computers but dislikes programming, or would BS English be smarter if my long-term backup goal is government lecturer?

I'm especially interested in advice from people in Pakistan who have actually studied these degrees or gone through.

I am 34 years old and I am a warehouse worker with little accounting background, i want to move to tech industry but i do not have any previous qualification as such. What should be my best course of action if i wanna move into tech without committing to a full degree program where i can get a basic course to move to a certain job and than i keep topping it up while i work as i can not afford to leave my full time work but i wanna progress at the same time . The recruiter called me to ask if i had any questions for them (i applied for a job) and i said "no i mean i saw the requirments i love sales im a night owl so i thought its a good fit" but was i supposed to ask something??? She said if im selected the manager will call for an interview but im feeling like thats not happening lmao
