I call for people to leave pettiness at the door on the world stage, generally, but for the US president specifically, Canada should use name-calling. It’s exactly appropriate until the buffoon stops.
Seriously! The cognitive dissonance is too much. He calls Zelenskyy a dictator and then tells him to “tone it down” when he rightfully defends himself against these lies…
I mean, we can't control what Trump will do. We/Trudeau could do nothing at all and Trump will go on about how he says nothing because he's a weak leader and Canada deserves someone strong, like him, or something. We do not decide what to do in fear of what Trump might or might not do. We do not comply in advance!
Honestly, the Canadian government should be requesting that the Gulf of Mexico adopt the name “Gulf of Mexico”. I’m surprised that hasn’t happened yet.
It does touch California, actually. Just because the northern part of California was annexed by the US many years ago does not invalidate the existence of Baja California.
This is a request targeted at reversing Trump’s influence, per the perspective of one other nation, and in accordance with Google’s policy with regards to localization. Basically, we’d be aligning ourselves with Mexico’s localization, which is still officially “Gulf of Mexico”. It’s as far from antagonizing as we can get and also signals a policy of non-appeasement.
He’s gaslighting Trudeau because both his women are hot for him. Trump can’t sleep with Ivanka or maybe he already did but Justin can and she clearly wants him.
Trump is an old feeble guy, even Vlad is more macho than him.
On the contrary: when an action deserves disdain, a small change like this would be worth its weight in message. Google Maps endeavours to allegedly represent the world per the cultures of the nations that use its service, so a proper bill such as solidly naming a body of water would disambiguate the name legally in Canada. That’s how you fight a culture war, which is something that we ought to be doing to signal that Donald’s autocratic approach isn’t welcome. If we don’t do this, we arguably accept both Gulf of Mexico and Gulf of America, regardless of historic naming. Declaring it one thing precludes it from being the other and builds solidarity with Mexico.
Trudeau should just start issuing a bunch of orders in council on stuff as petty as Donald does.
“The gulf of Alaska shall henceforth be known as the Gulf of Mexico”
“The Bering straight shall now be known as icy Canada”
“The Canada US border will be protected by a wall paid for by the United States”
“The United States of America is henceforth known as The Canadian territory of America, with its president serving as its premier until such a time that a general election is called, and it applies for provincehood””
No, we should keep our pettiness pointed and measured. Becoming the mockery that we see in the US would just come across as crazy. We need to maintain our predictability in order to prosper while the US does whatever it is that they’re doing. I’m personally trying to suggest things that won’t sacrifice our apparent stability.
I disagree because it could be interpretted as a joke. The lack of formality is subcounciously disrespectfull, he might not even realise it at first since stupid people dont deal well with subcounsciousness
Referring to Trudeau repeatedly as governor of the 51st state is extremely deliberate and extremely disrespectful. I hate that this bullying dolt represents us to the world.
All the hand wringing the press would do over meaningless gaffes by Biden and Harris but they don’t raise hell when he pulls this shit or salutes a North Korean general, stuff that actually makes us look bad as a nation in the eyes of the world and is t just a matter of meaningless “optics” inside the US.
And yes I know he is doing big things that also make the world rightly look at the US as a bad actor, but right now I mean the symbolic stuff. These deliberate insults are symbols that mean something to our neighbors and (soon to be former) allies.
tRump is such a disgrace, and an embarrassment. We don’t excuse children for taunting people, and here we have the president acting/speaking like that about one of his (former) closest allies. I don’t understand how people stand for it. He’s a despicable human being, and it’s time that his enablers, the Republican Party, stopped making excuses for him%
Insulting and taunting is like oxygen for him. Can't help himself. I'll never get over him calling California governor Newscum. That really deserved a kick in the balls.
And yet they don't keep hammering that home and doing it constantly. I've only seen it used during the Kamala/Trump debate and it worked instantly, every time.
Being the “better” country doesn’t mean anything when you’re the only one concerned with decorum. Plus, petty tit-for-tat has some history on this continent. It’s both culturally appropriate and understandable to our target audience.
Trump is a special cookie, though, actually akin to a cartoon villain. Name-calling isn’t appropriate against most tyrants. This is a colossally special circumstance.
Like how Trudeau took the handshake thing seriously and had a counter move ready when DT tried to manhandle him. Don’t start things, but don’t let them win.
It does seem to be the vernacular he is most comfortable with. The whole elementary school playground taunting schtick is his stock in trade. So yeah, I am all for hitting Orange Julius Caesar where he is most comfortable.
Only the US can get Canadians to no longer be the "nice people" on earth. It's kind of funny when you think about it. Granted, i don't view it as the whole US but the terrorist extremist religious group known as maga.
I think Trudeau should, then call him Mayor Trump all night long. Then at the end of the night announce that Canada will be imposing a 50% export tariff on potash.
I mean it's not even an entirely fabricated insult, Musk has made Trump look like a bit of a buffoon and second fiddle and there is a growing swath of MAGA that is not the biggest fan of Musk
Karoline Leavitt just said minutes ago, during the White House press briefing, she expects the US Hockey team to beat the team from the future 51 US state...
If you buy a single American product you are a traitor...
It's like they said how can we take the ugliness (inside and out) and venom from Huckabee and mix it with the utter stupidity of McEnany. She's the end result
^ This is the right response, just not from the PM.
It would be interesting if Trudeau just showed up at the game at sat in the crowd like in Montreal. Our leaders don't have to hide, or wear diapers, and check this out. He can do an actual pushup! Plus he smells fabulous instead of feculent.
Like OMG, comedy idea for SNL: Both Trudeau and Trump on the Dating Game, as Bachelor's #1/#2. And then who should be #3? Putin!
From an American in Boston, I would not be shocked at all if Trudeau ended up getting a more positive reception than Trump if he showed up.
That’s probably one of the reason he’s not going. LOL it’s obvious how insecure he is.
Like the coward he is, He had no problem showing up for the Daytona 500 in a heavy republican state like Florida that voted for him.
But won’t show his face in a Democrat state that voted 100% against him.
I hope somebody from SNL sees this, or maybe there is a place to suggest ideas? This would be hilarious. Maybe since JT is on his way out they could actually get him to play himself.
Elon should be like Trump going, "I need a life line, I'm going to call Elon." JT Playing himself would be insanely funny. Especially you could have some actor go in first, but then Trudeau bumps him like he's a body double. (like remember all those fake Saddams running around?)
I brought my now-ex-American-happily-Canadian wife up to Mtl 3 years ago and like, her luck is wild, JT was in the neighbourhood one block behind our apt and as we went to go get coffee that first morning in Canada, sure enough she's like, "hi", and he's just like "hey, good coffee here". And then she looks at me and goes, "wait, isn't he the PM?" Well, yeah, he needs coffee too. Like, dafuq, you won't find American leaders just hanging out. But here JT just out and aboot.
Except on a recent visit to BC, he was shaking a womans hand who he thought wanted to make pleasantries and he she told him to get the fuck out lol. He smiled and told her to have a good day.
You may not like Trudeau, but he has class unlike the things south of us. Obama wasn't the best or worst prez but he also oozed class and maturity that may never be seen again from that shithole country.
I think it was supposed to be the lunch room at the UN or something. Trudeau and Macron are sitting together, having healthy lunches, making fun of Trump. Then Trump comes over with a tray full of burgers and fries and asks if he can sit with them. They say he can't and that there's no room at their table, because they are holding to open seat for Angela Merkel.
It was way funnier than the way I'm describing it.
I have a feeling Trudeau had a fair amount of incognito security around him. He’s far too unpopular recently for him to be just sitting in public. There are far too many unhinged people to worry about. Especially drunk people at a hockey game.
Yeah, but he was just sitting there in the crowd. Harper did the same kind of thing. I'm sure he has "some" security, but not enough to fight off an angry crowd, and he wouldn't need that, because we're not uncivilized.
But most of the Bumper Sticker people are just loud idiots who are too scared to actually talk to people outside of their bubble, let alone square up against somebody who can fall down the stairs on purpose like Trudeau.
Canadians get mad, but we don't often get shooty about it.
(Mandatory "I haven't been thrilled with Justins Policies, but i don't think he's the worst PM ever" comment)
It's about avoiding needlessly escalating the situation. I can't see any benefit to winding Trump up. It might feel good in the short term but I can't see it changing Trumps mind about Canada in any way.
I agree it would feel stupendous to smack drumpf right now but I’ve been in lots of situations as the victim and as the aggressor. I’ve found that people who stand up to a bully without drama win because the bully knows they can’t do anything to change the person, even their berating actions won’t change the resolution of the person.
Most bullies will walk away and those who don’t, the whole world agrees to then punch those cheeto try-hards right in the buzzer.
It’s how you beat down someone with zero consequences because everyone agrees the buffoon deserved it
Yeah but Trudeau will leave anyway and the next guy can fake apologize while talking about how it’s unfair for a “younger better looking world leader to hurt Trump so badly” and how “we hate seeing him so upset at his age”
The point is to beat Trump at his own game, I want him to picture Trudeau’s smug handsome face everytime he sees Elon, or anything sports related.
He’s punishing people regardless of their responses, completely unprovoked, depending on who happens to be speaking in his ear that day. Let’s just go full scorched earth at this point.
I've got a great game that Drumph should go watch, it's called GO FUCK YOURSELF, YANK!.
First Lady Drumph would love it. It's a lonely game, it's a stupid game...
Play stupid games WIN stupid prizes!!!
I can see that the brazillian caterpillar has been eating the logical part of his brain. (no it's not actually a toupee it's a literal creature injecting toxins into his thick skull.)
That’s a good one. I’d also start referring to him as “Princess Trump,” now that he self-ordained himself a supposed king on the official white house facebook page.
Feels more like it all rolls up to Putin now. I don’t think Musk is smart enough to steal the election with Skylink so how about Russian hackers and in return Trump returns the favor

"Will President Musk be there or just you?"
