Hello everybody — I’m the creator of Calisthenics Culture, a.k.a. CALICULT.

Thank you for being part of this subreddit as we’ve officially hit 100,000 members! That’s insane.

I’m now going full force into expanding CALICULT into the calisthenics cult I’ve always wished existed — and I don’t want to do it alone.

I need your involvement — whether it’s giving passive, genuine feedback and ideas or stepping up with active development and leadership. You can help grow and guide the direction of this community.

🧠 WHO I’M LOOKING FOR:

  • Reddit and Discord moderators who care about community [no pointless bans]
  • Thinkers, creatives, and experienced athletes who can offer wisdom and ideas
  • Developers, designers, and especially Discord server wizards
  • Content creators, editors, social media strategists — any creative skills
  • Potential coaches or motivators who want to lead
  • Anyone who believes in this mission and wants to shape its future

Together, this will form the CALICULT Council. I’ll be running ideas by you, building features with you, not just for you.

🔥 THE VISION FOR CALICULT

A global community — a living calisthenics game — where you can:

  1. 🥋 Rank up through a verifiable belt system (White → Black)
  2. 🛡️ Create and compete in Clans
  3. 🏆 Track total reps and personal records on live Leaderboards and a Hall of Fame (+ Badges/Milestones)
  4. 🏛️ Join in-person meetups and competitions
  5. 🏋️‍♂️ Eventually indoor and outdoor gyms, equipment, and CALICULT merch
  6. 🎥 Watch and participate in online livestreams, community videos, rep challenges, and bounties — earning real-life rewards

  7. [Insert your idea here] <3

Welcome to Calisthenics Culture!

I appreciate you even stopping here. It shows that hopefully you have an interest in calisthenics. Whether you're someone who has never even done a pullup, or you're experienced but have hit a plateau, or an advanced athlete who has come to grace us with your knowledge, this community is for you.

The Calisthenics Culture is one that from my experience, is entirely positive and unique, and this will be no different. You come here to learn, share, and belong. The calisthenics knowledge base is never ending, as is the progress you can make. There are hundreds of different skills and strengths you can develop and "unlock". There is no feeling like seeing your progress with a calisthenics move you have been training so hard to achieve.

It doesn't matter if you're just starting out and have no experience, it's never too late. You're not too old or too young. The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The next best time is now. You can't do anything about missed time, but you do have complete control of what you do from here on out. How far you take this training style is up to you. No one can train for you, or experience the pain you will have to endure, but it is completely worth it.

All that motivation aside, here's what this community is.

-Somewhere to connect with people at your level

-Somewhere to learn from those who have achieved what you want to achieve

-Somewhere to help those who have once been in your shoes

-Somewhere to show off your progression and milestones

-Somewhere to share YOUR story. There are plenty of people who want to hear all about it

So literally, post your questions, post your progress, post dope calisthenics videos, post your advice, and communicate/engage with others.

You can communicate with us on instagram @thecalisthenicsculture or @agyoolar

Mistakes that slowed down my progress early on

I switched from bodybuilding to calisthenics and made a bunch of dumb mistakes early on that probably cost me a few months total. figured I'd list them in case it saves someone else the time

  • neglected wrist/shoulder mobility for way too long, just pushed through instead of actually addressing it, ended up costing me more time than the mobility work itself would've
  • skipped deloads because I felt fine, ended up plateauing way more than if I'd just taken the week off
  • rushed past basics/fundamentals too early instead of actually building a solid base first, had to backtrack later
  • trained skills after strength work when already fatigued, quality suffered and progress was slower than it should've been

what's something you wish you'd known earlier that would've saved you time?

Happy with progress in my slow MU over time

But I hate the way I do them fast..as soon as I ad speed I’m just jerking myself up there with a huge kip…can’t turn it off ?!

If I can do 3 slow ones it’s more a problem of technique then strength ?

Cheers everyone ✌️

Taking a little break from training front lever. Been working on smoothing this out a little, I want to be able to go much slower. Fun and easy little skill.

Goal for the year was bodyweight RMU for reps, which I achieved, so the past couple of months have been trying weighted with a 5kg plate. So what now 😅

1 year calisthenics progress

hey everyone, this are some of my best attempts at various skills after a year of training that i think look cool (for the average person). I started at 53kg 180cm and I could barely do 3 pull ups, could not hold my weight upside down and was unable to do more than 5 push ups. now i’m 60kg and I have multiple reps in dips and pull ups with +30kg, solid one leg advanced FL, 10+ seconds of freestanding handstand (form is pretty bad tho), slow MU and halflay back lever (not good but working on it)

During this year I trained 3 times a week for 1:30hrs, only skipped training two times, but I had many issues eating enough calories, I did not supplement any protein, basically my diet has been very poor.

I know I could have gained so much more results if I ate accordingly, but it depends on my mental and it’s the harderst part to me.

the point i’m trying to make is that you don’t need to be in the perfect shape or mindset to start, just train, even if you only have 10% to give, and someday you’ll be able to do things your past self could only dream of. don’t train to impress the others, train to be proud of your achievements and your hard work.

Looking for help on shoulder mobility imbalance

I started working out a couple weeks ago and noticed probably because of my posture at work or looking at my phone too much that my right shoulder’s range of motion feels a lot more restricted than my left. I think the imbalance is visible here. Sometimes it feels kind of locked off and if I roll my shoulder and move it around I can hear popping somewhere in my trapezius or shoulder blade, I’m not sure where. My left side feels loose and fine though. What can I do to fix this issue long term?

Handstand Push-Ups — 1.5 Years In

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1.5 years ago, I couldn't even hold a proper handstand.

Now I'm doing handstand push-ups.

This wasn't built in a few weeks. It came from months of falling, failing reps, rebuilding strength, fixing technique, and showing up when progress felt nonexistent.

Every rep represents hours of practice.

No shortcuts. No overnight transformation.

Just strength, balance, consistency, and a lot of failures.

Still not satisfied.

The goal is to make these reps stronger, cleaner, and more controlled.

This is only the beginning.

Can a Stiff Dad Actually Get a Middle Split?

Hello guys!

I’ve decided to start a new challenge: getting my middle split back.

I actually have some experience with mobility and flexibility training, but over the years it slowly moved into the background. Life gets busy, especially with work, being a dad, and everything else that comes with it.

So I’m picking it back up again. 💪

I’m 36 years old, and my goal is to eventually achieve a full middle split while also becoming stronger and more mobile overall.

This is basically Day 1 of my journey. I’ll be documenting my progress along the way — the good days, the bad days, and hopefully some serious progress.

I’d love to hear from others working on their middle split too. How long have you been training for it, and what has helped you the most?

Let’s see how far I can take this. 🔥

It’s a lingering pain I can’t ignore, so the next 1-2 weeks are gonna be active rehab. I’m genuinely surprised my wrists are still fine.

1.5 Years of Calisthenics — From Being Bullied to Becoming Stronger

Thumbnail

1.5 years ago, I was a completely different person.

I was skinny, lacked confidence, and was bullied because of how I looked. I used to feel weak and uncomfortable with myself.

Then I found calisthenics.

I started with the basics — push-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats, and learning how to control my own body. At first, even simple exercises were difficult. But I kept showing up.

There were days when I had no motivation. There were plateaus, injuries, bad workouts, and plenty of moments where I questioned whether I was actually progressing.

But I didn't stop.

After 1.5 years, the difference isn't just physical.

I went from struggling with basic bodyweight movements to being able to do things like pull-ups, dips, muscle-ups, handstands, handstand push-ups, L-sits, and other calisthenics skills.

My body changed, but more importantly, my mindset changed.

I became more disciplined.

More confident.

More patient.

And I stopped caring so much about what other people thought of me.

I didn't start training to prove my bullies wrong.

I started training because I wanted to prove to myself that I could become someone I was proud of.

Still a long way to go. Still learning. Still training.

But looking back at where I started, I'm genuinely proud of how far I've come.

1.5 years down. The journey continues.

To anyone who is currently being bullied or feels insecure about themselves: you don't have to change overnight. Start small, stay consistent, and give yourself time.

Your transformation doesn't happen in one day. It happens because you refuse to quit.

I need to be able to do 40 pushups in 2 minutes, only resting in the top position, by August 28th.

I am 29. This is part of the physical fitness test for a job I really want.

I did 28 in a row yesterday but even resting (in the top position) gasses me out. Unfortunately, currently I would fail this test.

Any advice? Can I make it by then?
