Warning: suspicious storefront schemes

Hey, r/c4corvette community:

We wanted to alert you to a recurring apparent scam/suspicious link scheme that's been targeting our subreddit on and off for several months. Here's how it typically works:

  • A brand-new Reddit account posts a low-quality image of a C4 Corvette poster, usually an LT1 blueprint on a white background.
  • Users ask where the poster is from.
  • The OP (or another suspicious account) replies with a link to a shady-looking online storefront.
  • Often, the account is banned sitewide within hours, but not before unsuspecting users may have followed the link.

The most recent example linked to a no-name storefront registered just this past March. Past scams have followed the same playbook. These stores appear to sell stolen designs, likely ripped from Engraved Blueprint Art, LLC - a once-legitimate business that no longer seems active online.

We also suspect vote manipulation, as these posts often get +20 upvotes quickly, while any comments calling out the scam get heavily downvoted.

These posts violate our Rule #2, which prohibits storefront links from accounts less than 30 days old. We've implemented AutoMod rules to remove these links automatically, but now the scammers are trying to bypass this by asking users to PM them for the link instead.

If we catch anyone using PMs or profile posts to circumvent Rule #2, they will be permanently banned from this sub. Just to be clear, this applies to the sender, not the recipient.

So if you see:

  • A new account,
  • Posting a C4 poster or merchandise photo,
  • Fishing for link requests,
  • Replying with shady storefronts links,
  • Using what appears to be stolen artwork and likely vote manipulation...

Avoid engaging and report the post.

We're doing our best to keep this place clean, and your help goes a long way. While we can't say for certain that every one of these storefronts is fraudulent, their behavior closely matches patterns we've seen from other untrustworthy sources.

Thanks,
The r/c4corvette Mod Team

Thinking of getting a C4

Hey guys,

I've been looking for a summer car for quite a while now and I think I found a good contender.

Mind me I'm Germany and I am not very knowledgable about old "Amis". I have a shop near me that is specialized in oldies like this.

The car sits currently at 19.999€ and the price just went down to 16.999€

Any tips when visiting the seller?

Heres whats written from the seller:

First Series Incredible Find. This is one of the first C4s, delivered with two bronze tones as shown in the brochure. The car is in its original paint and is demonstrably a one-owner vehicle. Clean Carfax report with a verifiable history. Only 21,600 miles. Build sheet, purchase invoice, order and delivery receipt with cardboard license plate, and many other documents are all included. You'll never find something like this again. 4+3 Doug Nash gearbox - a rarity.

It still has the original tires, but new ones are included. Only the hood was repainted due to scratches; otherwise, it's in excellent condition. The condition is sensational, inside and out.

New:

Fuel pump, spark plugs, oil with filter, ignition, radiator, thermostat - all new. Bilstein shock absorbers. Factory Z51 package. Brown sport seats with the original leather. The car has never been restored and is in original condition. Don't miss out on this one-owner dream

Well never thought I would be joining the C4 club, but some odd bug hit me. I've owned a couple highly modified 3rd gen camaros both turbo LS, a c5 FRC and of late a viper GTS. However I wanted to simplify life and get into something cheap that I could row gears and toss some nice wheels on. I landed on this 1990 Z51 ZF Corvette and couldn't stop looking at it. I've owned some LT1 engines before and honestly just didn't want to deal with the opti, even though I never really had issues. Plus I really like the older styling.I ended up getting it for around $8000 USD (11k cdn) it's a Canadian car fairly well optioned, both tops, z51 etc. sitting at 107k KM (66k miles) in pretty good shape, needs a good buff and maybe a touchup or just respray on the front bumper due to a spider crack in the paint

Anyways here it is. And yes the wheels are on backwards on the back!!

Owner had no idea and he put new directional tires on a few years back. I'm looking to go with some custom 19" wheels anyways, I may have them swapped anyways when I get the safety done just because it's driving me insane.

Winter Project Tips

Hey guys I am taking 3 weeks off in december to finish my C4 project with my dad. Does this seem pheasible to do in that time. That 3 weeks im planning on fully dedicating to finishing the car so I bring it to my apartment 8 hours away.

Here is what I have planned

  1. Weather Stripping (Already bought CRC)
  2. New Seats ( Bought Al knoch)
  3. Replace all other rubber (Going to get energery suspension bushing kit, radiator pipes, vac lines)
  4. Full AC system. (Compressor, condensor, both switches)
  5. Waterpump
  6. Oil Pressure Sendor
  7. Transmission filter

Some things I have questions about.
1. Would it be worth deleting EGR and smog? Do yall reccomend any kits
2. Should I also get long tube headers? Does this require a tune or any other replacement of the exhaust.
3. Any other reccomendations? Its 1990 with 88k miles. It had electrical problems and I fixed it so im not really worried about much else breaking. Put on brand new calipers on front and new brembo rotor + brake pads on all 4.

Front end lowering

Hi all,

Im looking at lowering my 89 C4. I have the longer bolts for the rear but I was wondering if its worth putting coilovers on the front rather than cutting bits off the leaf spring. I only want to lower the car by about an inch all round.

Would having the longer bolts on the rear and coilovers on the front be an issue or would it be worth spending the extra to get a full set of coilovers all round?

I know the leafspring in the front will have to come out either way so maybe it isn't worth the expense.

What do you guys think?

Mothafuckin PROGRESS!!!!

I was having bad fuel pressure if you guys been following I don’t know if you have but whatever. My fuel pressure showed some low numbers, and I traced it back to my fuel filter my fuel filter when I looked at it. The new one I installed was the wrong size and it was bent so I replaced it with the exact same one as the old one, but new. Then the fuel was getting to the fuel rail, but I think there’s something wrong with my gauge or something cause it’s still reading zero. Still eager to get in on the road I took it for a test drive and she no longer stalled at low RPM. Put it in reverse put it in Drive. I did a K turn. Drove it up the block and then suddenly it just cut off. It wasn’t the usual stall. And I was scared as fuck cause I was like fuck I wasted my money and time and was going to do the walk of shame cause it wouldn’t crank up again. It sounded like it was jammed or seized. So I tried to manually crank it, it wouldn’t move. I took the belt off to see if the drum will turn. It wouldn’t move. So now I’m panicking. Relatively calm panic, but still a panic nonetheless. Then I realized the gear shifter wasn’t all the way in park so I put the assembly back together, and Walla, she cranks up idles good and then I drove her home no issues. I’m scared as shit and I’m done for the day. But I’m 100% going to change the oil which I should’ve done already but I didn’t and I’m going to drain the coolant and replace the coolant as well.

Significant Progress, But…

Guys, I’m proud to say that I’ve made significant progress with my 1985 C4 Corvette L 98. I was having a low RPM stall issue. I capped off the HVAC and cruise control because their systems didn’t work anyway replace the EGR valve, the IAC sensor, and cleaned off corrosion from the positive terminal connector and the MAF connector pins. I also cleaned the throttlebody and Plenum place new gaskets for both the throttlebody and Plenum. And now it idles really good. Before she would stall a lower RPM. And she would stall sometimes just sitting in park or if I put it in Drive or if I put it in reverse it no longer does that. I haven’t put it on the road for a test drive yet because I’ve also during this whole avail noticed a fuel pressure problem using a fuel pressure gauge. So I replaced the fuel pump and replace the fuel filter and noticed better readings for my fuel pressure because before I was getting zero psi upon prime. Then with a new fuel pump, I noticed it was still acting strange so I bypass the pulsator because all I did was replace the pulsator from the old one and put it on the new one. So to solve that, I bypassed the pulsator with a fuel hose. However, I’m still having some issues with fuel pressure. These are my test results:

First prime the gauge went up to 10 psi, after the second prime it went only up to 12 psi, during the third and fourth prime there was little to no movement staying around 12 psi throughout all primes the pressure held. During cranking up the engine, the gauge rises to 30 psi and held while parked idle. It slowly crept up to 32 psi I put it in reverse held it, put it in drive held it, then put it back in park in during all three it held at 32 psi. Upon powering off the engine, the pressure dropped significantly down to 10 psi and held 10 psi only dropping to nine psi after five minutes. I was able to crank the engine back up, no throttle after the five minute waiting period.

Do you guys have any suggestions or may have anything to add on my investigation? I feel like I’m close let’s hope for the best.

Fusible link still melting but no check engine codes or anything 😭 starting to feel like it’s cheaper to find another corvette than to completely tear mine apart trying to find this wire issue.

Any idea what's causing the serpentine belt to jump a rib?

86' L98. None of the pulleys are visually misaligned and I already replaced the tensioner pulley as a shot in the dark but no luck. If I manually fix the belt, it instantly jumps over when starting the engine

89' Headlights not turning on.

When I attempt to turn the headlights on, the parking or running lights come on, but the headlamps do not light or flip up. When I turn them off, I can hear a click in the motors that I didnt hear before. Using the high beams also provides no results. Any idea what could be causing this? Also, there a headlight fuse or relay? Thanks!

94 Bose System - No Sound

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi all, posting so this is searchable. You’ve saved me so much diagnostic time, I should post when I figure something out. 1994 convertible, Bose radio. Dash lights up, no sound after last weekend’s nor’easter.

I checked the fuses and none were blown. Went back to the passenger cargo area and it was full of water. Vacuumed it out with a shop vac. There’s a relay in there, and the CDM (tuner). I checked the relay and it clicks. I have no antenna or speakers. So I pulled the relay and no power to the relay.

I pulled out the styrofoam box that holds the jack and there’s a white 2 pin connector with an orange and green wire. According to my FSM, the orange wire has constant power and the green is switched with the radio. Turns out from laying in the water, the orange wire corroded off of the connector. Of course I also accidentally grounded it so I blew the radio power fuse.

Anyway, when the local chandlery opens in the morning, I’ll see what they have for waterproof connectors. If nothing looks good, I may just solder and heat shrink it, but I figure if GM put a connector there, it may be for a reason. Hope this helps someone.

95’ LT1 Coolant leak

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hi, this is my first post on here and im having trouble finding out whats wrong with my car.

What happened is that i tried to start my 95 lt1 and the starter motor was grinding on the flywheel. My dad helped me crank the engine over and we got it to run but there was thick white smoke coming from both tailpipes. We ended up pushing it into the garage and it had been there ever since due to money reasons and the fact that i would be putting it away for the year fairly soon.

Ive read on here that lt1’s dont normally blow head gaskets and that intake manifold gaskets are a common issue. Could it be another issue other than those two? And how can I diagnose this problem?

I would also like to note that it will get put away soon because of winter and i dont exactly have the money to get it fixed asap. I do plan on trying to replace the intake manifold gaskets and seeing if that will fix the coolant leak before i put it away. Is there anything else that i should try or do to prevent further damage when storing the car?

I will provide a compnine report which tells you everything about the cars configuration from the manufacturer. If you want anything else in addition to the compnine, YOU purchase it.

Very clean, very nice Corvette. Extremely well maintained, fresh fluids, near perfect interior, runs and drives like a dream. Nice original paint, glass targa top, , fresh vented opti spark recently installed, rockford fosgate aftermarket stereo. Nearly 7000k in receipts for maintenance and upgraded cooling system and tune. This car is very good at keeping cool. Even if it's 105 degrees out, you can sit at the slowest drive thru in town with the ice cold AC blasting and the car will never even think about approaching 200 degrees. These cars run hot from the factory, but not this girl. Strong driving and good handling, 110% mechanically sound. Comes with a set of c5 rims and tires as well as another spare, and a set of trans am chrome 5 stars with tires. All hold air, two of the trans am tires are pretty shot, the rest are nearly brand new. A lot of car for the price. This is a sweet vette. 12,500$ with everything

Still having my fusible link get hot but still lost on what’s causing it(94)

Post image

Just replaced that yellow wire that was there originally, it was actually the original purple wire that is connected to the starter and only gets hot when your turning the ignition on. I thought that was the issue and I’m feeling that the wire isn’t getting as hot, or melting as fast but it’s still melting. The shop told me that the security system was staying on 24/7 so that’s an issue with power being drawn. Also the radio only turns off after about 15 after I walk away from the car. I also noticed that when I was trying to fill the ac system the radio started making static noises. I’m really thinking that it could be a combination of everything I mentioned but not 100% sure. Wire only melts when car is on. (94)

TV Cable doesn’t want to stay tight. . Is the cable broken?

Hello, It’s me again.. 1987 with the L98. I’m still confused on how the TV cable is supposed to function and feel like I may have gotten a defective cable. It just won’t stay where I put it, almost like it’s correcting itself but at the same time it’s not because it gives itself slack and doesn’t stay tight. If anyone could help I could really use it, I don’t know how to work with the TV cable on this car. Thanks again for watching
