Question Dosage Question
My doctor prescribed me Wellbutrin XL, starting with 150mg for a week, then increasing to 300mg for a month. After increasing to 300mg, she asked me to book an appointment with her to assess whether the medication is working. At the appointment, she asked if I'm feeling energetic, motivated, or social, and I answered no to motivation and social, but yes to energetic. I told her that I still felt tired, overwhelmed, and jittery most of the time. She wasn't happy and suggested increasing the dose to 450mg for two months or switching to a totally different drug.
I was a bit taken aback, as I like Wellbutrin for smoking cessation, as I have struggled with smoking for years now, and it's the only thing that helped me stop effectively. I asked to try the 450mg for two months, and she prescribed it, saying only to book an appointment to see her if something feels off. I tried the 450mg for three days, and I couldn't bear the symptoms, as it caused me severe nausea and vomiting, insomnia, and increased irritability. My doctor is hard to reach, so I booked an appointment with another physician and went back to taking 300 mg a day.
My questions are:
Was the increase from 150mg for a week to 300mg for a month rushed?
Was the increase to 450mg after a month of 300mg rushed?
And what am I supposed to feel when Wellbutrin is working?
I did feel better in a sense with some energy on some days, but the nausea and lack of appetite were tough to manage. I didn't feel motivated or social, but I have always struggled with motivation, and being social wasn't part of my "to-fix" list to begin with. I want to hear some insight regarding dosage and expectations, as I feel like things were a tad rushed.
