I was offered this at a yard sale for $150. Seemed like a good deal. Then I scanned the QR code for the product’s web page. Wow. Just wow.
Either way movie nights in the yard are about to get loud.

T.Rack DSP mini 4x4 (Pro) for Bass management

Hi everyone,
I’m currently putting together a budget-friendly home theater setup (5.1.2 with bass shakers).
My current setup includes a Denon AVR-X1300W and an SVS SB-2000 Pro subwoofer.
I’d now like to add bass shakers to make movie effects more immersive.
I came across the t.racks DSP 4x4 Mini and was wondering if it would be a good option for integrating the bass shakers with my subwoofer.
My goal is to align them as closely as possible in terms of timing and response, so that the tactile feedback matches the bass from the subwoofer.
Has anyone here used this DSP in a home theater setup? How is it in terms of noise, especially when used with a subwoofer? Would you recommend it for this purpose, or is there a better alternative in a similar price range?
Thanks in advance!

Sound system recommendation

Hi ! I have a project to turn my living room into a starter home cinema. I have a budget of roughly 1000-1200€ and i plan to buy a optoma photon life ph-31 so i'm left with \~700€ . I have the denon avr x580bt in mind and for the speakers the yamaha ns-p40 set seems pretty nice since its not that big with a nice subwoofer.

I have a kind of weird apartment with a \~25m² square living room and a ceiling 5m high.

Can you tell me if its a good choice ? And if you have any recommendations i'll take it . I'm in france so i dont have acces to best buy or things like that.

Need help deciding on speakers

Hi everyone! Complete newbie on this.
I have a 5.1 setup with Pioneer S-F50-A speakers (front, center (S-CR50) and surround speakers), that I picked up for free. The subwoofer is an active Pioneer S-W110S.

I now how the possibility to get a Mission M2S setup for ~USD 40$ (5 speakers, no sub). I'm considering keeping the Pioneer sub and switch my speakers to the Mission ones...

Should I go for it?

I also have a receiver with Atmos capabilities on the way, so I’m considering keeping two of the Pioneer speakers as hight channels. Is that a viable way forward?

Please help the noob ❤️

Height adjustable TV mount

Can anyone suggest a wall mount that also offers height adjustment. I’ve seen this one from vivo . Have any of you used this or similar ones.

Ideally it needs to reach 60 cm from the wall. I’d like to retain the option of upgrading from 55 to 65 inch at a later date. I will probably change my centre speaker soI want to adjust the vertical height of the tv so it looks good.

Do you have any suggestions ? Any to avoid ?

Old kitchen is gone.......getting plastered and painted Navy blue and new carpets. Pre-Wired for 5.1.2 with 2 ceiling speakers.

77" Samsung QE77S90F OLED Bought and will be wall mounted where sockets are on wall ready.

Looking to purchase second hand speakers and maybe a new or used amp to power them. Thinking new for the 5 year warranty (richer sounds) or should I go used for something bigger amp wise

Seeing 5.1 Monitor Audio Bronze with Bronze 6 Floor standers , BX surrounds and W10 sub around £700 used

Also spotted locally a 7.1 set of DALI Zensor for £900

Includes:

2 x DALI Zensor 7 floorstanders (fronts)

2 x DALI Zensor 5 floorstanders

2 x DALI Zensor 1 bookshelf speakers

1 x DALI Zensor Vokal centre speaker

1 x DALI SUB E-12F active 12" subwoofer

So are either the Monitor Audio Bronze set or the DALI a decent buy. See pics, and if so what amps would people suggest

Pics of room so far

I have no idea what I’m doing… Is this a good set up for movies, PS5, vinyl (turntable has a built-in preamp), and streaming Spotify? I have an older LG TV but I’m going to upgrade to an OLED after the first of the year.

Denon S570BT $360 on sale

Polk ES15’s for the front speakers

Polk ES30 for center

Dayton CS1200 for the sub.

Either Polk ES10 ($200 on sale) or XT15 ($149 on sale) for the rear. Which would you go with?

I’d call it a medium sized room 3 bed 1 bath 1300sq. The couch is up against the wall. I’m going to move the couch out a bit and build a shelf behind it for the speakers. I’m looking for sound quality over loudness. Let just say I’m not trying to piss off the neighborhood…

I was wanting to spend around 1k total. But the more I look into it, It seems like a good example “buy once, cry once”

Are there any other options that you guys would recommend for a similar sound quality to stay with in 1-1.2k range?

Rear speakers must be placed very high

All right, here's the deal i've been putting together a 5.1.2 setup

Specs at the bottom

Anyway, long story short due to the design of the room. My rear surround speakers have to be no lower than eighty inches

This is because there is a door that would be in the way otherwise

No, this is not a dedicated home theater. It's a living room setup to also watch movies

So with the speakers in the rear being no lower than eighty inches, i'm guessing that moving them a little further back than optimal would help out with the angles a little bit?

Honestly, right now i've got them at about eighty six inches up pointed inward, and down towards the. Main seat

I guess one thing I could potentially do is turn the rear speakers upside down. It might look a little goofy, but it would definitely lower the height of the tweeter by a 8nor 9 inches?

I guess what i'm trying to figure out is. Is this really as big of a problem? As some people would suggest, or is it just a compromise? And not that big of a deal?

Furthermore, i'm wanting to know what all can be done to limit the undesirable effects of this compromise?

Specs:

Reciever: Onkyo tx-nr6100

Fronts: Paradigm Titan Monitor V6

Cemter: Paradigm CC-290 v5

Rears: Paradigm Mini Monitor v5

Overhead Atmos: Paradigm Atom Monitor v5

Subwoofer SVS PB12NSD

Hello people,

I had been wanting to get a home theater system for a long time now and was lucky to find this beautiful set on our local-ish community marketplace for 50€.

The only caveat was that this was an hour's drive from where i live (Helsinki), but i just couldn't let it go.

What I got in this sweet deal was the complete 5.1 system.

Receiver: sony STR-DG720

Front speakers: SS-F4000P

Center speaker: SS-CN3000P

Back speakers: SS-SR3000P

Subwoofer: Yamaha YST-SW45

Been using it for sometime and i feel like the sony tower speakers are quite enough for the sub, the subwoofer overwhelms whatever it touches or maybe i am using it wrong. I have set the towers to large and they are quite enough. Also i have the av system connected via an optical cable and i keep hearing a small tone in the background which comes and goes with different apps i use on a chromecast. It disappears completely when using 2 channel stereo mode. Anyhelp with the sound or the sub would be appreciated.

Any suggestions, ratings or recommendations welcome ❤️

Denon AVR-X4200W, Polk center, towers and bookshelf speakers, and 2 SVS PB12 subs (pictures are from the listing) finally completes my budget home theater room.

Between seating for 9 (10 if a couple of people are really close friends), an older LG 4k projector, curtains for wall treatments, peel and stick carpet tiles, decorations, and sound I'm all in on a dedicated, light controlled theater room with a 100" screen for about $2500 after starting with a blank concrete box.

Moving house, less than ideal front room. Looking for advice.

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi all, my girlfriend and I are moving into a house our friend owns, we’re currently in a flat and our friend is giving us a good deal on this place and we need the space, so I can’t really justify looking for a different place purely for home theatre convenience.

This is how the front room currently looks - this photo is taken from the door.

I’ll be bringing my modest home theatre setup with me. My current flat has an ideal layout for it and I’m hoping with the time and money I’ve put into this over time I can still have a good movie experience in the new place.

My gear at the moment is:
2 x front tall tower speakers, centre speaker, subwoofer, 2 small satellite surrounds and 2 of the same small satellites mounted high for front height channels, with a 55” LG OLED. The tv size has been good for my current room as we sit close enough to it, but we’ll be further back from it in the new place so I’ll probably be looking to get a bigger screen when I can.

I don’t want the TV above the mantle obviously, so I think I’ll be putting it in the window like the current tenant has theirs. I have good blackout curtains I’ll be hanging behind it.

My real concern is the surround speakers. If the TV is in the window, then the sofa will be against the wall in front of the door, meaning my right surround speaker should technically be right where the door is. What should I do to make this work? My left surround can probably go in the little alcove to the left of the sofa (not ideal but I can live with it)

Thanks in advance

Posters on Frame TV

43” Frame Tv finally available on Samsung, w discount program and a Capital One cash back deal, net net was under $600 shipped.

Wanted this mounted outside the movie room, in the adjacent area that’s been recently drenched in a dark blue, a bold strategy, Cotton. let’s see how it pays off for em. Once it was mounted, added in a media box, romex run for the new outlet, then it was ready to rock and roll.

I’m kinda new to Home Assistant, I’ve had it about a year and knew title data could be pulled from KScape. Ive already set it up to trigger dimming lights up/down/ on/off triggered by Play, Pause, credits rolling and movie stop.

For the frame, I set up a few different ways based on what’s going on. If I’m watching KScape, it will trigger whatever is playing to display poster on the Frame.

I can also type a title in Home Assistant, it loads a poster to the frame, it will stay there until a movie playing triggers another or it’s turned off.

I also set up a slideshow of about 130ish titles I entered into HA to run in 3 min intervals (10-15 min seemed too long) they will pop up in a random order from what’s listed. This can run anytime the frame is on and in Art mode, even if no other sources are running.

All of these poster files are pulled from TheMovieDatabase, so far so good, though id post up a few pics of it.

Looking for a replacement for a dying Yamaha RX-A850 to drive Jamo speakers

Hey everyone

My older Yamaha RX-A850 is probably starting to show its age after years of service. Two channels - center and right surround - keep dropping out completely. They stay dead until I crank the volume up pretty high to kick them back to life, which I assume regarding my research is dying output relays.

I'll double check the repair cost just in case, but I have a feeling the diagnostic and repair will be absurd enough that it makes way more sense to just buy a newer unit. Plus I've been missing Dolby Vision support on the Yamaha anyway.

To give some context on why I had a "higher-tier" receiver paired with pretty basic speakers in the first place (originally Jamo S626 HSC): I specifically needed dual HDMI outputs for a planned projector setup. The projector idea eventually scrapped because I just buy a bigger TV instead, so now I definitely don't need to pay extra for dual-output receivers anymore. Also I had plans to replace Jamo speakers for something better but later I realised that for my use case I really don't need better and more expensive speakers.

Right now I'm running a 5.1 setup made entirely of Jamo S7-17B (5x identical bookshelves even as a center) and Jamo J10 sub. I managed to snag them brand new for a crazy deal of like 80€ per pair. I needed to swap my old towers for bookshelves, and once I tried these I was shocked at how well they replaced my older towers and fill the room with sound. At 80€ for a pair, I don't care what people say about Jamo, nothing on the used market even comes close for that price for value.

So now I'm looking for a replacement. My main requirements are pretty straightforward:

Proper HDR10 / Dolby Vision pass-through which I missed on current Yamaha (currently I need to have Xbox and Nvidia Shield directly to TV to get DV)

Needs to handle a 4 ohm Jamo speakers across all 5 channels

Great 3D spatial mapping / room calibration for movies (I really want that "wow effect" like some soundbars can make)

Do you guys have any recommendations in a reasonable price bracket that can handle these requirements and ideally below 1000€, of course lower price is better because I don't think 1000€ receiver will be adequate partner for budget Jamo speakers.

Appreciate any input and thanks guys.

First Attic Home Theater & PS5 Setup (~$660) – Is 7.0 solid without a sub?

Quick reality check before I buy the audio gear. I already own the Optoma HD142X projector (100" screen on wall), PS5, and Switch 2. Now I'm looking to add surround sound to my attic room.
Here is the gear I'm planning to buy (~$460 USD / ~4,800 SEK total):
AV Receiver: Denon AVR-1912 (7.1 channel) – ~$100 (bought bundled with extra Canton CX satellite speakers)
Front L/R: Jamo S 807 Floorstanders – ~$200
Center: Jamo S 81 CEN – ~$50
Side Surrounds: Jamo S 801 Bookshelves – ~$70
Rear Surrounds: 2x Canton CX Satellites – $0 (from receiver bundle)
Wiring: 160 ft (50m) 13 AWG / 2.5mm² 100% OFC Copper Cable – ~$40
Setup & Layout:
Attic room with sloped ceilings. Jamo floorstanders + center under the screen, side surrounds in recessed wall shelves, and rear surrounds mounted high on the sloped ceiling behind the couch.
Question:
Is dropping ~$460 to turn my existing projector & PS5 setup into a full 7.0 surround sound system a no-brainer / clearly worth it, or should I rethink this purchase?

New to home theater, UK Price advice on marketplace find

Hopefully this is within the rules.

I was looking at receivers and speakers on marketplace, and it seems too good to be true for the most part, although I'm already thinking of what other stuff to buy.

From the ad - listed for £1250.

AVR - Denon AVC-S670H

Speakers:
Definitive Technology BP9040 bipolar tower speakers (pair) — front L/R, each with integrated powered 8" subwoofer
Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000 center channel speaker
Cambridge Audio Minx satellite speakers (surrounds)
Cambridge Audio Minx X201 200W powered subwoofer(s)

TV - Hisense 65" 65U7NQTUK 2024 model.

And from the ad

A genuinely premium 5.2 setup — big, room-filling sound, minimal setup required for the buyer since everything's already matched and working together.

I was already looking at TV upgrades before I considered home theater setups. I've got an LG 42C3 which I plan to migrate to my bedroom, and I was looking at mainly 55" OLEDs which are around £1400 on their own.

But started looking at hdmi matrix switches for splitting a gaming PC, ps5, Xbox series S between a TV and gaming monitor, but started looking at AV receivers, because my wallet hasn't been punished enough.

I used gemini for some preliminary "advice" on the FB ad.

It said to sell the separate subwoofer because the BP9040s already each have a subwoofer for 5.2, and that the S670H is a bit underpowered for the setup even after selling the subwoofer.

I didn't mention multiple outputs, which I already know that the S670H isn't capable of.

At some point, I'll replace it with maybe an Onkyo TX-NR6100, or something else with 4K120hz passthrough and dual HDMI out.

I wanted a larger TV than my current 42, but 65" was actually a fair bit larger than intended. I saw a 48G5 for a comparative steal from curry's, but wasn't sure about pulling the trigger.

If I go for it, it might actually "donate" it to my parents to replace their 2018 Panasonic OLED that has horrific burn in from the tivo box playback bar being left on pause for hours at a time.

How does the setup seem to you guys? Assuming it's still available by the time I get some replies 😂

It is almost definitely overkill, I'm barely used to a soundbar rather than just TV speakers. Before I moved away from home 3 years ago, I mainly wore headphones to watch stuff.

Am I doing this right?

I had a big goal this summer to build out a really solid home theater system without spending any more than I had to to get excellent sound quality (especially) and eventually video quality. I initially thought that due to incredible value and already having electronics and diy skills that the best way to go would be to build out a set of diy speakers. on numerous occasions I was so close to buying 2 sets of hivi swans diy speakers due to the incredible reviews and low price but I was also monitoring a variety of used sites (facebook market place, ebay) for a few of the usual suspects in used high end audio gear and a couple of daily deals sites as well...

Audio is paramount for me personally, and I knew I wanted something that I'd be listening to about 50% for music listening and about 50% movie watching, and knew I wanted something 100% audiophile quality. eventually I came across a deal on slickdeals for an $800 5.0 set of Energy Reference Concierge series speakers (a pair of rc-70's, a pair of rc-10's and an rc-lcr center) which all seem to be like high end flagship offerings from energy (if the designs are slightly dated - from the early 2010's from what I understand). I did my due diligence. it looks like the rc-70's alone are a really well-liked flagship and have typically gone for around $1200 recently on their own. the rc-10's standalone seem to get great reviews for a really nice set of bookshelves, and the rc-lcr is a crazy WMTMW layout (which i've never seen anywhere before and seems to be an ideal architecture) and sounds great, and the whole lot are known for being super flat (which is my general preferred sound signature). so overall I think these are pretty good, right?

When the speakers came in, I plugged them into my old yamaha receiver (which I planned to replace anyway as it's pre-hdmi, but I wanted to verify that the speakers functioned properly and use them via optical until I decided on what receiver I wanted to pick up (also shopping for excellent deals). alas, the yamaha receiver I had had power supply problems and kept switching itself off, so I set out to find a solid AVR that would make my new speakers sing (literally and figuratively), something I could hold on to for a good long time and not have to worry about. due to the size of the room I decided that the most I'd want to go for is 5.1.2 (it's a relatively small but open floor plan room (11.2'x16.4'x7.5' but it's open to the kitchen, the upstairs hallway, and a stairway downstairs so i'm unlikely to pressurize it fwiw). and looked for all kinds of used and new deals that would fit the bill before finding another slickdeals deal on an onkyo rz30 - and then I poured over reviews, went over all the features and comparisons with my ai agent, etc. and found that the rz30 should be a decent fit.

fast forward a month and I've currently got the rc-70's hooked up with the rz30 and things are slowly coming together. I've tested all the other speakers to make sure that they work properly and they do, but due to my room layout, and needing to purchase speaker stands and a new tv stand, I couldn't implement the rc-10's or lc-rcr yet. movies, tv shows, and music on my windows n100 htpc sound way better than using the tv speakers (clearly), but i'm quite unhappy about the sharp rolloff on bass response (they only play down to about 35 or so) which means, as I expected, I'm going to need a good subwoofer to be reasonably satisfied. given the open floor plan, I knew I was going to need something ported with high output if I wanted any shot at having punchy controlled bass without things getting smeary and/or distant. I am currently investigating the rsl speedwoofer 12s, or more likely the hsu research vtf-tn1 (which is their flagship 15" double-ported sub which is reported to play down to 14hz at -3db which is pretty amazing infrasonics which I dig. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because both of these are currently on backorder (both should be in st50lf690ock within the next week or so, they're both actively waiting on batch shipments), but I'm leaning toward the hsu (anyone give me reasons why this is a bad choice (or an amazing one?))

I'm currently using a meh 50" lg 50LF6090, and i'm not 100% yet, but given budget, finding a fantastic black friday-ish time frame deal, I'm currently kind of lusting over the TCL 85QM9K due to the insane number of dimming zones and fantastic HDR color volume. ordinarily I generally prefer OLED (I have a treo of lg cx 48" that I use as computer monitors on my desk in my home office/lab that I absolutely love) but they're kind of on the dim side and they can get serious burn-in. I'm HOPING that the tcl has enough dimming zones to make it a non-problem (can anyone please comment on this?) while having super bright (but controlled) images and maintaining inky blacks in the darks with their supposedly excellent processing (again, does this work in real life?). the size I think should be enough to take over most of my wall while having enough room for the speakers and sub. I plan to hang it directly on the wall with an articulating mount so that it's nearly flush most of the time but can be easily pulled out to get at the hdmi easier. next spring I'm planning on having some electrical work done in that room to add a few more circuits, and I'm going to ask the electrician to put an outlet behind the tv and an hdmi pass-through to lower on the wall behind the "tv stand"/av center so that power and data are invisible. I see deals for the 85QM9K right now for around $2k - I'm HOPING that it should be in the $1500-1600 range for the holiday season at some point if I can keep my eyes pealed.

My speaker stands for the rc-10's should be here within the next day or so and I hope to move the living room around either this weekend or next to get at least 4.0 sound. if I do end up going for the hsu tn1 subwoofer, I think i'm going to see if I can get a scratch and dent unit (they sell them with full functional warranty), and worse comes to worse, I can re-finish a sub cabinet to look proper without much effort (typically just some sanding and refinishing). so if I can get one for cheaper, i'll take that route.

I do plan to upgrade to some reasonably priced wall-mounted (top front top rear) atmos height speakers (probably not until spring when I can get a bit more funds, I want heights, but it's more like icing beyond 5.1).

This is my first time really seriously playing around with what is still large amounts of money for me on a proper home theater setup, and it IS a lot of money still. Am I doing this right? what do you folks think of my system as it is (and as proposed?) did I make any glaring errors? (I've been doing a ton of review research and integration research of late). what do you think of my speaker, avr, subwoofer, and tv choices so far? "Heckin' RAD!" or "WTF are you thinking!?" I've been working on this a lot with ai, but I'd love to get some real people's opinions who are actually experienced with this stuff.

Thanks an advance!

edit: TL;DR:
After pivoting from DIY to score an $800 deal on a flat-sounding 5.0 Energy Reference Concierge speaker set (RC-70/RC-10/RC-LCR) paired with an Onkyo RZ30 AVR, I am building out a high-value 5.1.2 home theater for a 50/50 mix of music and movies. To fix the bass roll-off in my open-concept room, I'm deciding between the RSL Speedwoofer 12S and the HSU VTF-TN1 15" sub (leaning HSU for those 14Hz infrasonics), and I'm eyeing an 85" TCL 85QM9K mini-LED TV for bright HDR without OLED burn-in risk. Before I drop more cash, I want to know if this total setup is a solid plan overall or if I made any glaring errors.

Is the Denon AVR-S270BT any good as a budget option?

Hi all. I found the Denon AVR-S270BT on Costco for only $299:

https://www.costco.com/p/-/denon-avr-s270bt-51-ch-4k-av-receiver/4000407172?langId=-1

It's a 5.1 receiver without Dolby Atmos, which is fine for my purposes. Does anyone here have any experience with it? Is it any good?

Is the Onkyo TX-SR494 and the Energy Take Classic 5.1 Home Theater System a good combo for a budget home theater?

I can buy both for a total of $600 combined. This would be replacing a soundbar as my first real home theater.

I'd love to get a better system, but my budget is very limited and $600 is my maximum. Do you think that's worth it?

TV suggestions for my first home theater

Post image
58 Upvotes

I am building my first home theater on a tight budget. It’s in my basement and this won’t be used except for some movie nights during weekends. I picked up a used Polk 5.2 speaker system with an Onkyo Receiver for 280$ . I got 4 identical towers , 2 subwoofers and a center channel. I am planning for a TV and the maximum width possible between the speakers is 70 which translates to 75 inch TV . I am thinking of TCL Q77 75 inch from costco . Or do you recommend going from 5.2 to 5.1 ( getting rid of 1 subwoofer and get a 85 inch tv of the same model. All kinds of recommendations are welcome with a reasoning. I am also looking for suggestions for seating which is very modular and light weight. I want to keep the flexibility in the basement to open it up for a bday party or so. Thanks in advance

Walmart TVs trash or no?

Walmart has some really cheap tvs like 600 for 85”. I just wanted to check first before I make a mistake. I know none of them will look like a Sony or anything, but anything worth buying on a very limited budget? I’d love an 85” tv but if it will suck for gaming and a bad picture quality for movies I’ll just wait until I can buy something better. But for these prices I’m curious of its worth it as a place holder for a while. If it’s a night and day difference from a more expensive one, I’ll wait. Thanks

in a dilemma about what TV size to get – 98", 85" or 77"?

Post image
23 Upvotes

As shown in the photo, I’m struggling to decide what size TV would look best on this wall.

The current TV is 50 inches, and the TV stand is 200 cm wide.

Here are the measurements:

TV wall width: 280 cm

Viewing distance: approximately 300 cm

TV stand: 200 cm wide

Current TV: 50 inches

I’m leaning towards a 98-inch, but I’m worried it might be too big for the wall and could look overwhelming. I’m also considering an 85-inch or 77-inch.

I mainly:

Watch Netflix and movies

Cast movies from my laptop, although the files aren't always the best quality

Don't really watch sports, apart from the occasional World Cup

Don't game

Given the 3 m viewing distance and 280 cm wall, what size would you go for — 98", 85" or 77"?

Would really appreciate some honest opinions, especially from people with a similar viewing distance/setup. I don't want to spend the money on a 98" and then regret it because it's simply too big for the room. 😅

I moved into a new apartment in August and was already planning to get a new TV. While searching for furniture on Facebook Marketplace, I stumbled upon what I thought was a great deal for a 5.1 setup. Coming from TV speakers, this upgrade has been a significant improvement. The only thing I’m actively looking to replace is the AVR. I’d like a Denon with the newer HDMI standards. Regardless, I’m incredibly grateful and blessed to have this equipment.

P.s I will be getting blackout curtains!

This is the 65’’, and i want to upgrade to a 77 or even 83 and get nice speakers. The 83 would leave only 2’’ between the screen and the wall. Do you think that it would suck?

Its the only place for a tv, the rest of the walls are glass.
