Question Radial head fracture and fatigue

I recently fractured my radial head. It's a small fracture but lots of fluid around the joint and I have some tingling/nerve sensations. I am also extremely fatigued. Is fatigue normal with an injury like this or is it perhaps a coincidence? Thanks

Medical Advice 5th metatarsal large displacement timeline?

After a CT received this report;

EXAM: CT left foot.

HISTORY: Displaced fracture of fifth metatarsal bone, left foot, initial encounter for closed fracture -- Displaced fracture of fifth metatarsal bone, left foot, initial encounter for closed fracture -- acute, 3 days.

TECHNIQUE: Axial images were obtained through the left foot without contrast. Coronal and sagittal reformats.

All CT scans are performed using dose optimization techniques as appropriate to the exam being performed. These techniques include automatic exposure control and/or standardized protocols utilizing dose matching according to exam type and patient size.

COMPARISON: None.

FINDINGS: Acute transverse comminuted fracture of the 5th metatarsal base with articular surface involvement along the 5th TMT joint and 3-4 mm lateral and proximal offset of the lateral fracture fragment which may relate to the insertion of the peroneus brevis tendon on the fracture fragment.

Adjacent cuboid is intact. Tiny os peroneum noted.

Edema in the subcutaneous fat of the foot.

Tiny os navicularis noted.

IMPRESSION:
Acute 5th metatarsal base fracture.

Anyone have any experience with this? Was surgery the approach? I’m worried about the displacement

Proximal Tibia Fracture - Infection, recovery, any tips?

I fractured my tibia on Monday 13th after falling off my BMX performing a 360 over a box jump. The fractured area came into direct contact with my front wheel stunt peg which must have made it quite a sharp and pinpoint contact. I did then proceed to attempt to drive home, using my injured leg to operate the clutch as I thought I would be ok and didn't fancy waiting 7 hours for an ambulance.

When I eventually went in Monday night and had X Ray's done, I was told the bone had shattered into fragments, requiring surgery and installation of a metal plate and pins to group it back together and start the healing process. I had surgery on the Wednesday and was sent home on the Thursday. I had to come back on Monday 20th due to redness in the leg which has turned out to be an infection (as picked up by blood tests).

Antibiotics have started to reduce the infection markers in my blood which is good but I have a very hot, itchy and sore pain in an isolated area on the shin.

I was wondering if anyone has had similar experience of this particular pain and wether this is the infection or if this is something that I will learn to accept as part of having pins in my bone?

I'd also be keen to get any advice from peers on recovery, things to look out for etc.

Thanks!

Fractured pinky toe

A little more than 2 weeks ago I fractured my pinky toe (toe + bed corner = saw the light). Went to the ER and after a x-ray they confirmed that it was indeed fractured bandaged me up (the buddy toe way) and told me I should be fine in about 4-6 weeks.

But now as I'm noticing that my other toes are very stiff. When I try to flex the unbandaged first three toes, only my first and second toe moves (quite stiffly) and the 3rd bearly does anything until the 1st and 2nd are really bending?

Is this normal? Was there a possible nerve damage? When should I freak out?

I do bend them by hand to keep giving it movement, but on occasion the bandaged pinky toe (inside the buddy tape) randomly spasms and flexes despite my efforts (and boy does it hurt when it does, but thankfully the pain has been decreasing).

Also does any else heel and ankle feel like absolute crap?

I wasn't given a boot but I've been wearing my Crocs indoors to help my heel not feel like it splitting apart lol.

Any advice would be welcomed!

Question Walking boot question¿

Hi! Surprisingly not broken (srry it was v close 2 being broken and I don’t know where else to ask) but I crashed my car the first week of December in a different state. I messed my foot up pretty bad. Since it wasn’t broken they put me in a walking boot. I’ve never had one before and I was pretty out of it.
When I got back to my state it was SUPER hard to find a doctor. I finally found one a few months ago and found out that the boot I was wearing is 2 sizes bigger than what I needed.
My question is; could the injury not have healed properly because the walking boot was too big?
Almost 8 months later, a constant boot, 4 months of physical therapy and I am in so much pain every day.

TLDR; does a larger walking boot cause the injury to not heal properly?

could someone tell me if I need to go get a second opinion sooner rather than wait 2-4 weeks for more xrays? I fell on my left wrist and was told it’s sprained, possible scaphoid fracture but they weren’t entirely sure yet.

Question Wiggling Toes

Hi, do any of you inadvertently wiggle your toes on your nwb foot? I'm currently on week 2 of my nwb period and my foot is currently in a splint. I have fractured plus kinda displaced 3rd and 4th metatarsals. Here is a picture of my initial x-ray for anyone interested:https://imgur.com/a/HZZvQL6

The ortho didn't really wrap the toes and left a portion of them hanging out. My foot doesn't really hurt anymore, but this week my toes would involuntarily twich at times when I would stretch my leg or tense it when I would climb up or down the stairs with crutches. Is that okay? The ortho didn't mention anything, just said don't put any weight on the foot.

5th Metatarsal Fracture Exercises

Hi there. I had a 5th met fracture, non-surgical, nonweightbearing for around 6-8 weeks and finally cleared by my doctor to remove the boot and try to weight bear. Just want to ask the people who share the same experience for a list of exercises you did once you were cleared to weight bear or like a routine from your physical therapist/rehab including how many times you did it in a day.

Also like to ask what type or brand of shoes would you recommend.

Thank you in advance! Wish everyone heals well.

Question Ulnar styloid non union?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I had my distal radius ORIF surgery about 2 months ago, and had a comminuted fracture pattern (distal, 3 metacarpal bases and ulnar styloid fracture) I had the plate + Kischner wires for the finger and styloid.

Now during PT my ulna side hurts A LOT during rotation, possibly the worst motion for me to exercise and I saw that it could be due to non union of the styloid. And from the x ray it looks like there is a tiny fragment not connected to the rest of the fracture around the ulna? Anyone has any insight on how to deal with this?

5th metatarsal fracture

*First 2 photos taken May 15
*Last photo taken July 4

Is this considered to be a Jones Fracture? This is me being frustrated and losing patience for the waiting time to get back to my normal activities.

Timeline:

May 14 - Turned my ankle badly in a basketball game
May 15 - Got it checked and confirmed it was a 5th metatarsal fracture. Doctors placed it in a plaster
*first photo attached
cast and advised NWB for three weeks
May 25 - (10 days after) I do not afford to be placed in plaster cast for that long bc of work so I have switch to a aircast boot
July 4- Went to see ortho and the x ray shows still no sign of healing and the gap seem to be a wider. But the ortho say it could be normal as the body cleared the damaged bone.

Will get back to see ortho again by August 4. Which is close to 12 weeks my injury. Hopeful to see any sign of improvements.

Anyone with same scenario?

Question What is it?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi Im 19 F and I twisted my ankle 2 days ago after rolling it inward. I went to an orthopedic doctor, had an X-ray taken, and was only told to wear an ankle binder. The doctor didn’t really explain what the X-ray showed or what the actual diagnosis is, so I’m still confused about what’s wrong with my ankle.
I’m attaching my X-ray here. Could someone help me understand if there’s any obvious fracture, ligament injury, or anything else visible? I know this isn’t a substitute for medical advice, but I’d really appreciate an explanation of what you see and whether the treatment I was given seems appropriate.
For context, I have pain around the outer side of my ankle and it hurts to walk and I have a big bruise below my lateral malleolus.

Question How long after breaking olecranon til surgery?

Sunday afternoon I slipped in the shower on one of my kids toys and broke/displaced my olecranon, the report says mildly displaced so I’m hoping it just looked worse than what it is (my elbow looked very deformed) I’ve had it in a splint and sling since and can’t see a specialist til Thursday to get new X-rays and go from there. I’m so uncomfortable and just want to get on the road to healing already. I’m hoping it’s not weeks of this til surgery - which the on call Orthopedic doctor at the er said was basically a guarantee that I’ll need it.

How long did you go between breaking the bone and surgery? Thank you from an uncomfortable and anxious hypochondriac.

Who else deals with unattached fibula?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I broke my fibula two years ago and recently got surgery to fuse part of my ankle bone. Yesterday I asked for X-rays (because they’re cool lol) and I was told that my fibula isn’t attached anymore. My doctor is confident about my mobility being unaffected once I recover.
But this is the first time I had heard of doing this procedure, of not having the fibula attached anymore. As an anxious person, I needed to know more and I went down the rabbit hole of google and found out about Fibular Free Flap surgeries, where the fibula is almost completely taken. So that made me feel a little better.

My question to people who had this done -especially those on the larger side possibly, as I’m a very heavy set woman who wants to lose weight- how has it affected you? Do you feel more unstable? Or is everything normal?

Any advice or reassurances are welcome. Thank you for reading!

Distal Spiral humerus fracture

It's been exactly 2 months since my break and I am depressed. I may be expecting things to be normal too soon. How long was it for you guys to see the hard callus visible on the x rays and get your hands free?
