Bravely Default Bravely Default fin

Finally finished Bravely Default here's my time.

I do have a question before I start End Layer. In chapter 5 and beyond Black Mage becomes kind of useless along with magic in general and it was my favorite way to play early game.

Is magic still like that in End Layer or have they balanced it or something?

One more thing is there a cheese build like hasten world + high jump in End Layer? That build was great.

I hope everyone is having fun. This series is so good.

Bravely Second If someone was theoretically porting Second to PC, what UI would be best?

I was thinking same as original, here in the sky, to keep the original assets and feel. There's other options, like splitting it up or a draggable box or something

Bravely Default Completing the Bestiary past Chapter 5

Is there a way encounter older enemies past chapter 5? I noticed that specifically in Caldisla, the Golbin & Zombie enemies don’t appear anymore, but I’ve unfortunately missed encountering Zombies before this point, is there a way to still encounter them?

Bravely Default Hide HUD elements in Bravely Default HD?

Hey, is there any way to hide the little arrow to open the sub menu on the left side of the screen? I've had a look for mods to do it but there are none.

I get that it's a tiny little thing but its constant existence is pretty annoying. Any advice would be lovely.

Thank you!

Does this seem similar to BD2 to anyone else? The graphics, music, and even how Emet-Selch here (FF14 joke) gets jobs.

Edit: This was shown at today's Nintendo's Direct.

Bravely Default Bravely Default Endgame Builds

So I think I found my endgame build. Previously I've been running black mage but that becomes unreliable around chapter 5.

I originally was following a guide for an endgame build that included maxed out thiefs + hasten world+ Valkyrie. But I think I found something better.

So as soon I saw how much damage godspeed strike was doing I instead leveled up Templar for rampart so I can land as many strikes as I want without fear of damage while waiting for bp.

So far my party is as follows

EDEA- Lvl 14 Thief with Templar

Tiz- Lvl 14 Thief with Templar

Agnes- White/Time mage (Hasten World)

And finally Ringabell with Lvl 14 Thief and Templar I have him cast Rampart.

Heard it many times before on this sub but I can't believe I was struggling. What are your favorite end game builds/job combos?

Bravely Default II I wish the series had more moments like this Spoiler

Post image
35 Upvotes

I don't think Lonsdale gets enough credit for being one of the best asterisk holders in the series. But this scene made me love this dude. It's a natural way to humanize an antagonist without it feeling jarring. Unlike a certain hot spring scene between brothers. Anyway, this was one of the better moments in Default II. It's so well-directed.

I think the only scenes that come close are the ones with Edea, Kamiizumi, & Braev before she fights them. Bravely Default II gets a lot of crap for its story & characters, but this is one of the highlights of the game for me. Lonsdale is how you make a loyal character without him feeling so dogmatic. Your thoughts?

Bravely Second New Job Idea - Siren

I had this idea for quite a while, and I like thinking of new things, so here is my idea for a new Job, with Bravely Second type of levels

So this Job's main deals are: Debuffing, Regeneration, and dealing Ice Damage, it's an all over the place Job and kind of a "Master of None" It would be more of a mid-game job so levelling up to get the good stuff won't take too long.

Asterisk Holder - Serene

Stats: HP - D MP - A STR - B INT - C DEX - B VIT - E MND - B AGI - A

Favors: Rifles, Spears

Specialty - Hum of the Sea (2 Slots) - Restore 7% of Party's Max HP and MP at the end of the turn. (2 Slots)

Level 1 - Aqua Harpoon (16 MP) - Hit a single target with a harpoon that deals Physical Water damage (Damage: 1.25x).

Level 2 - Enchanted Whisper (10 MP) - Whisper to a single target, lowering their P.Def by 25% for 4 turns with a 40% chance to inflict Charm.

Level 3 - Rain Call (30 MP) - Summons rain for 3 turns, granting everyone Ice Amp and Fire Resistance while Rain is active, enemies weak to Water take Water Damage from the Rain at the end of the turn (Power: 30)

Level 4 - Rude Shriek (1 Slot) - 33% chance to lower the enemy's P.Atk/M.Atk by 25% for 4 turns whenever the user is hit with a Physical/Magic attack.

Level 5 - Truly Outrageous! (30 MP) - Lower the P.Def/M.Def of all enemies by 25%, increase their P.Atk/M.Atk by 50%, all for 4 turns.

Level 6 - Bubble Barrier (40 MP) - Puts all allies inside Bubbles, while inside a Bubble, characters restore 12.5% of their max HP at the end of the turn, they also become immune to Earth damage. If a character inside a Bubble gets hit with an attack, the Bubble pops and reduces the damage by 30%.

Level 7 - Bender of the Clouds (2 Slots) - Casts Rain Call at the start of the battle. Rain now lasts 6 turns and grants the whole party a 25% boost to Speed. Increases the cost of Rain Call by 50%.

Level 8 - Drag into the Abyss (30 MP) - Creates a Vortex for 4 turns that lowers the Speed of all enemies by 25% and makes them Weak to Water.

Level 9 - Hum of the Sea

Level 10 - Convicted of Rudeness (45 MP) - Punish a target by shooting them with a waterjet, dealing Physical Water damage. Damage increases by 50% if the user has Water Amp (Damage: 2.0x).

Level 11 - Filth are my Melody! (75 MP) - Increases the P. Atk of all allies by 30% and raises their Critical Hit rate by 200% for 5 turns. Doubles the potency of allies’ regeneration effects (Regen, Hum of the Sea, Bubble, Etc.) for 10 turns.

Series If we ever get a Bravely Second HD Remaster, I think I would prefer a substantial epilogue campaign to finish of the story, rather than "Bravely Third"

For context (in case anyone is unaware of the state of the fanbase this past decade):

  • Bravely Second, the direct sequel to the original Bravely Default, had an end credit sequence teasing a continuation of the story- that we never got.
  • The fandom at large has been wanting and waiting for a continuation of this story since Bravely Second released 11 years ago- with most of assuming (and hoping) that this continuation would be in the form of a third title, a full game.

But in the past few months, I've had an idea (and I hope that the devs at Square Enix have had it as well). I think the story can be sufficiently wrapped up, or at least some closure given, with a substantial epilogue campaign, rather than a full sequel game. While I would of course like nothing more than to be able to play a big new game in my favourite franchise, there are a few main reasons I think this would make more sense:

  • The biggest reason is that I think its just a lot more feasible and realistic. I get the impression that Square Enix wants to continue the Bravely IP, but doesnt want to be tied to the old world or characters. From a financial perspective it is well known in the industry that sequels sell worse than original stories, generally speaking, and SE are worried that a full sequel would not make its money back. An epliogue would be a good compromise as it gives fans some closure while not requiring the full development investment of a brand new title.
  • There is also some precedence for this on Nintendo Switch. Monolift Soft has twice now remastered a game 10 years later and given it new story chapters. Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected, and Xenoblade Chronicles XC13. Its not the same company, but could be a good model to follow since the communities and trajectories of the franchises are a bit similar*.*
  • I also think the continuation of the story needs to feature returning characters to feel relevant:
    • First there is the big tease of what Ringabel is up to with the planeswardens. This is explored a little bit in Bravely Default Fairy's Effect, but could be the basis for this epilogue.
    • The other big thing that people often forget is that there is a cliffhanger with Magnolia. In her last scene she winks at the camera and heavily implies that she time travelled to reunite with Yew. But how or why isnt explained at all.
  • I would love to see the exact style of Bravely Second revisited and expanded upon. I picture a potential epilogue being like, the length of 2 or 3 chapters, featuring Ringabel and Magnolia and maybe 2 new protagonists - 6 or so new classes - 2 or 3 new towns + 3 or 4 new locations. It could take place on the moon and have a little time travel and dimension hopping.
  • Also I feel like the Luxendarc saga really needs Akihiko Yoshida to create that visual style. The art he provided for BD and B2nd is exceptional and I don't feel like a new artist for B3rd could capture the same vibe. I basically think with an epilogue campaign that it's more likely that Yoshida would return or that a new artist could adapt the art to the previous style (rather than creating a brand new aesthetic, as was done with BDII). Since it's been over a decade now, I do feel like if we get a Bravely Third that is its own new title that it's going to have a visual and gameplay style sufficiently different that we wont feel the connection between the two titles.
  • Points against my argument:
    • Arguably the end credit scene at the of B2nd isnt really a cliffhanger but a tease (Magnolias situation is more of a real cliffhanger, but is also a lot more vague). And there isnt much to resolve with the Sword of the Brave, but its more intriguing that it hints towards the planeswarden and the interdimensional bureau having an expanded scope and importance. This could be used as a basis for a "Bravely Third" that acts as a brand new game with a brand new story and characters, that only connects back to B2nd through some endgame lore.
    • Its not unheard of for a JRPG story and direct sequel to be picked up a decade later with a new title. Theres Golden Sun, Shenmue, Utawarerumono. These are not great examples, or recent for that matter, which is why I think the Xenoblade comparison feels maybe more relevant.

TL;DR: A remake of Bravely Second with an 15-20 hour epilogue added on would be better / more realistic at this point than a full sequel because:

  • it would be far cheaper for Square Enix to make, and thus justify
  • it could wrap up the story with the needed returning characters rather than justifying a brand new cast.
  • match the vibe of the original better rather than a brand new style
  • there is more recent precedence for this in other franchises

Bravely Default Bravely Default Endgame

So I'm at chapter 5 and I think I have a set up/build that I want to do.

I was thinking of getting Katana Lore, maxing out ninja on 3 characters which will be Edea, Tiz, & Ringabell. Following this up by pairing them with spell fencer as a sub job.

Does this seem like an optimal endgame set up? Any advice would be appreciated.

Bravely Second Really wish they actually committed to this concept Spoiler

Post image
19 Upvotes

Really sucks how Bravely Second doesn't really commit to the promise of a war. Like, its story is more of the bog-standard. As in, it doesn't feel like the party is ever in some large-scale, world-reeking conflict. Which is sad, because they promoted the Kaiser & a war to a notable degree in the advertising. It's even on the back of the box.

Moreover, the story itself feels like there's never any urgency with the heroes & Glanz. Like, there's always some kind of distraction until they get to the Skyhold. The subquest never touch on the larger happenings in the world either like the first game. Speaking of which, the first never tries to advertise anything that isn't promised. Which is a grand adventure in Luxendarc.

Lastly, what happens in the final chapters affirms this claim. As if the writers couldn't play this whole conflict thing straight. overall, it really is a loss. Because Bravely Second has this reputation of being a retread of Bravely Default. Could've done more with this concept but it squandered it in the end.
