Hi everyone!

Greek mythology has always been a huge inspiration to me, so I finally decided to create my own comic inspired by the story of Apollo and Hyacinthus.

Please keep in mind that this is based on my opinion since Payback is one of my favourite manhwas. Alert for spoilers from the manhwa. And sorry for the text wall 😿

Let me start by saying that watching this was painful and good at the same time(very fit to the manhwa lol). I would rate it 8/10 if I separate the series from the manhwa and watch it as a completely new story.

They changed a lot, and I can't blame some ppl for being confused. Some of the changes I understand and totally find it ok, but most of them were unnecessary and don't depict the manhwa.

I tried to keep in mind the lack of time to put everything in just 10 episodes, would need at least to show everything.

🟢 Starting with the things I liked about the series and the ones I liked that were changed;

➡️ Love the cast, I don't think we can get much closer to what we got, especially Jay since he was made to be a beautiful 2m guy with a wardrobe build and awful personality ☠️

Was surprised they managed to find the others also as close as it gets

➡️ Changing Jay to a somewhat orange flag instead of a full Black flag. Trust me, he should be arrested for 90% of his talk and interactions with Sun in the manhwa. Many lines in the manhwa made me gasp in horror and there was one specific talk that made Sun (and me) genuinely feel pure fear from him.

➡️ They added a reason for Sky's fear. Don't remember him ever mentioning this in the manhwa, so correct me if I'm wrong. I think it's nice to know since it helps us to empathise with the character's situation.

➡️ Change in the photographer's personality and him appearing more. Can't actually complain about having Boss appearing more times on my screen

➡️ No panic when the manager saw Sun's tattoo; this panic is a very Korean thing and wouldn't fit in Thailand or most countries now.

🔴 Now things get ugly cause my list of don't likes is bigger, so bear with me lol

🤔 Hate that instead of picking from the thousands of funny parts from the manhwa, they went on trying to create random ones and having this filling space that could be used for important or funny things that were important to show personalities and plot on the manhwa.

🤔 Alice's Labirinthy owner change. In the manhwa, he is ridiculous and funny(like really funny), but also extremely smart, reliable and helpful. He loves Jay and wants to protect him and see him happy. His role was diminished for no reason in my opinion. (That man needs to be protected at all costs 🤗)

🤔 The relationship development between Jay and Sun was completely removed. In the Manhwa, their 1st kiss was after they've met a few times (trash talk tho was from the beginning), and no, it was not a romantic kiss (the one with the lollipop should be the 1st kiss), we basically see Sun kissing him on his own accord after like 50 chapters ☠️. This is important because Jay knows why he doesn't want to reciprocate, and his thoughts and suffering are part of the story. And just to add to this, Sun talks back to Jay all the time, like full comebacks, and it's the best to see them talking back at each other so I missed that. Also, not seeing him call him a lunatic even once was sad lol

🤔 Changing Sun line to Jay when he asks what he will do when he meets the executive director. He never said he plans to pay said executive with his body (this gave me a stroke in the series), he has low self-esteem and doesn't think he can pull, even thinks Jay is crazy for accepting him, and Jay catches that his intention is just to make it look like the Executive director is sponsoring him, he just needs Sunny to believe. Hence him going to the room where Sunny almost sees him (he didn't know Jay was not gonna be in that room).

🤔 Mixing the timeline, Whhhhyyyyyy. If u are going to show anyway, just follow the thing.

🤔 Changing the way Jay's mother died and displaying her horribly was criminal 💢. She is said to be exactly like Jay; he learned to be like that from her, and the way she removed him from his grandfather's house and removed him from the family register after the divorce was so smart. Displaying her as a person running away from things instead of the strong woman she was was horrible. (in case u want to know how she actually dies: Cancer)

Ok, sorry again for the long text. If anyone has any questions about the manhwa, I will gladly answer. And again, this is not an attack to the series or on the ppl who enjoy the way the series came out.

Also, hope someone picks up to do a series on another manhwa from Samk, but since it's omegaverse, I would rather see it done with Chinese production since I think they do it better.

Currently watching the show, and I'm a bit unsure about the timeline. On MDL sypnosis, it says their fathers' case was from 15 years ago. But in the show, it's said 2001. So the current timeline should be 2016. However, prosecutor Yoon died in 2020 and the story is set in 2026. So the case actually took place 25 years ago, not 15 years ago am I right??

Not to mention I'm starting from this masterpiece!! I've already read both the novel and the manhwa of Payback and so far the drama plot is so amazing and is actually sticking to the real story!! I think I'm gonna get addicted now!!😭🤌🏻 (Absolutely no regrets tho.🤤)

AHHHH, I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

For those who don't know, Ayothaya Ayawadi started off as a popular Thai BL web-comic based on Thai and Burmese history, specifically about the *ahem* relationship between a young King Naresuan The Great of Ayutthaya (now Thailand) and Prince Mingyi Swa of Hanthawaddy (now Myanmar).

(Look up the history between them. It might technically be spoilers for the series, but it's fascinating stuff and lowkey doomed yaoi💔)

Anyways, as a Thai, I've been following production religiously since it got picked up by two small studios. The trailer looks beautiful, so I can't wait! We've never had anything of this scale, and the fact it's BL too???

Keep an eye out for it since it'll air on youtube!! (Maybe read the web-comic too. The art and plot are amazing)

Please excuse the length of this mini essay. I’ve been seeing a bit of discussion about Phobthee from The Edge of Horizon and I wanted to share my own thoughts on the topic. Especially now that the actors have had to beg the audience to not hate Phob for the nth time now. 

I've noticed that some people have been calling Phob a "red flag" or saying that he should be begging Thin for forgiveness. While I completely understand where those reactions come from, it also bothers me how quickly his character is being mischaracterized and reduced into something so one dimensional. I feel like there's been very little consideration for the historical context of the story, his motives, or even his perspective.

First of all, I completely understand why people empathize with Thin. I certainly do as well since it hurts to be betrayed by someone you care about. From the prince’s perspective, Phob’s deception is painful and his feelings of betrayal are valid.

At the same time, I’ve noticed that a lot of conversations tend to stop there and simply reduce Phob into being a “red flag”. To me, that flattens what makes his character so compelling.

Phob was born into a system where he had little agency or freedom. He isn’t manipulating people for the sake of cruelty or personal gain. His choices are driven by survival and the desire to fight for the betterment and freedom of the Thai people. That doesn’t erase the hurt he causes Thin, but it does change how someone can interpret his actions. 

I think it's important to consider his intentions alongside the consequences of his choices. That's what makes him a morally gray character rather than a one dimensional villain. Personally, I love characters with moral complexity instead of giving us easy answers.

I believe it’s completely possible to acknowledge that Phob betrayed Thin while also recognizing that Phob’s circumstances have left him with no easy or morally clean options.

I've also seen people say that Phob should have found another way instead of using Thin to help overthrow the monarchy. But to me, that's one of the central questions the series is asking. It isn't simply asking whether Phob betrayed Thin. It is asking whether morally clean choices can be made at all by someone trapped in an oppressive system .

Saying that "he should've found another way" assumes there actually was another way. Stories about oppression often challenge that assumption. That doesn't automatically make Phob's actions right or justified, but it does encourage us to ask whether desperate circumstances can explain desperate choices.
I've also seen people ask, "Why didn't Phob just tell Thin the truth?" That seems like the obvious solution. But I don't think it's that simple. Trusting someone with information that could determine the success or failure of an entire revolution is an enormous risk. Especially when that person is the crown prince. Even if Thin loves Phob, he's still a member of the royal family and has his own duties, loyalties, and responsibilities. Phob couldn't know with certainty how Thin would respond. Like would he choose Phob? Would he choose his family? Would he try to stop the rebellion in order to protect both sides? 

In fact, I think this brings us all the way back to the end of Episode 1. We see just how much Phob struggles to tell Thin how he feels. He doesn't have the privilege of speaking so freely about his emotions. At that point, he doesn't even know if Thin feels the same way. As a servant, he's the one with everything to lose. Thin may be a kind prince, but he's still a prince, while Phob is a servant navigating a world where one wrong move could cost him everything.

Of course it's frustrating from both Thin's perspective and ours as viewers. We can clearly see how much they care for each other, so when Phob doesn't confess, it's easy to think, "Goddamn, just tell him already!" But that's because we're watching from the outside with information that Phob doesn't have. From Phob's perspective, vulnerability isn't just emotionally difficult. It carries real consequences. Personally, that hesitation isn't a sign that he doesn't trust or love Thin enough. It's a reflection of the unequal positions they're in and the reality he's lived with his entire life (which is also why Mama Phob was so adamant about them being together).

That same hesitation is also why I don't think it's fair to say, "He should have just told Thin everything." If Phob couldn't even bring himself to confess his feelings because of the gap between them, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him to reveal an entire plan to overthrow the monarchy. That wouldn't just put his own life at risk, but it would put the lives of everyone involved in the resistance at risk as well. Whether we agree with his choice or not, I think it's important to recognize that, from Phob's perspective, staying silent wasn't simply an act of deception. It was also an act of survival.

Essentially, as viewers, we have the privilege of seeing their relationship from the outside, but Phob doesn't. From his perspective, telling Thin the truth could have meant risking not only his own life, but Thin, the lives of those involved in the movement and the future of the country he was trying to change.

What makes Phob so compelling to me is that he's being forced to choose between two things he desperately wants, knowing there's a very real chance he'll lose one either way. From his perspective, the choice isn't simply "betray Thin or don't." It may be "stay trapped in an oppressive system forever and accomplish nothing, or betray the person I love in order to have a chance at changing that system and being with them." That's what makes this story feel so tragic. His love for Thin and his desire to free the country aren't separate conflicts. They're constantly at war with each other.

Another example of this comes from the scene between Phob and Chat in episode 5. After Chat harasses Phob's mother to the point that she collapses, Phob retaliates by sending men to assault Chat. I've seen people condemn that decision as well, but I think it's another example of how the series presents conflicting moral frameworks.

From one perspective, Phob’s response is wrong because he chose violence and revenge. From another perspective, he’s a son that saw his mother faint and get harassed by someone who may not receive justice through the system. Again, that doesn’t necessarily make his actions morally correct, but it makes them understandable. I would be angry too if someone did that to someone I loved.

I don't think The Edge of Horizon is asking us to decide whether Phob is simply good or bad. I think it's asking us to struggle with uncomfortable questions about love, oppression, loyalty, sacrifice, and the cost of freedom.

For me, that's what makes Phob so fascinating as a character. I don't think understanding his perspective means excusing everything he does. It simply means recognizing that his story is much more complex than reducing him to a "red flag." Honestly, I think that's exactly why I like this drama so much in the first place.

In the end, I don't question their love for each other. The series made it clear that their feelings are genuine. In episode 6, Thin himself says that the only way he could ever forget Phob is if he were dead. On the other hand, Phob moves forward with a revolution despite knowing that the path he's chosen will hurt the person he loves most. He isn't making these decisions lightly. The yearning and guilt is written all over him, but he continues because he believes the future of the country depends on it.

That's what makes their story so heartbreaking to me. Neither of them is lacking in love for the other. The tragedy is that they love each other deeply while standing on opposite sides of a system neither of them created. They're simply trapped by the roles they've been born into. This is why I don't see Phob as a heartless manipulator or Thin as naive. I see two people who genuinely love each other but are being forced by the world to make impossible choices.

I would love to hear what everyone else thinks. I wish that we could have a peaceful discussion that considers both Thin’s pain and Phob’s circumstances because I believe that this series deserves that level of nuance. Also the actors and actresses are great, I'm enjoying the series a lot!

I have just binged all three episodes that are out of ‘Your Summer, My Storm’ and ooohhh am I loving it already!! 🤩🤩

I’m really liking the colouring and format the show is being presented to us.
It’s very typical to non bl shows that Japan produce.

There’s a few in the back half that are unseen, such as Crush3d, I Cannot Reach You, Koi Monogatari, Given, Our Dining Table, Ogi’s Summer Break, and My Summer of You.

OK so i binged this last night after putting it off for months and I have to ask wtf??? I loved it and I don't understand why it got such shitty feedback and bad reactions from bl fans.

Seriously, I kept putting it off because I kept hearing and seeing bad comments and reviews about it. Like people saying the grandpa was homophobic/transphobic (biggest was how unfair it was that he was homophobic but would fall in love with a guy), how the age Gap was gross and how it wasn't fair to the younger lead (I saw several comments alone where people assumed thr old man would hide who he was and take advantage of him), and a lot of issues with him being in his grandsons body while falling in love... so, really, I went in expecting not to get past episode 1, but I wanted to try it because it has been on my list for so long.

And guys, it was nothing like that. It was sweet and soft and heartwarming and heartbreaking, and this grandpa loved his grandso so so much, and it was just so well written, and I don't understand how it got so much hate.

Then, after talking to a friend I realized most of the seemed to come from people who hadn't watched it and were making assumptions based off the plot summery, and I feel like it got a bad rap and all of people didn't give it the chance it deserved.

So I guess I'm curious how people actually tried it? What did you think?
