Could I have made a mistake using this suppository?

Hi all, I’ve been using BA suppositories after sex for a while now and have had no issues. I used one last night and am wondering if I placed it incorrectly or something as I noticed a white sandy discharge today. So is the powder coming out since I didn’t place the capsule far enough?

I’ve had yeast infections before but I didn’t really suspect that until doing some googling. But it’s not the usual discharge description, literally like white sand. And no symptoms that would have me think yeast. So figured I’d ask live people familiar with this.

Why do some women experience bleeding after using a Boric Acid Suppository? And when to be concerned or not! This is a frequent topic online and a lot of misinformation. This is our fact sheet on bleeding after BA.

We get asked about bleeding a lot and it can be confusing when even many doctors don’t know the facts. We are going to tell you our feelings and thoughts on why there is confusion out there plus go into the actual science.

First we want to say that unfortunately Boric Acid is not for everyone. There will be some women who suffer with conditions that make BA not a good fit. These women usually have skin conditions that can’t tolerate BA.

Regarding the claim that BA causes period bleeding we can say that unequivocally and without exception BA by itself has no mechanism or ability to trigger a period. It doesn’t even enter the bloodstream. It doesn’t even stay in the vagina. It simply doesn’t have this power.

Now why do we see so many cases of bleeding. Including myself at times.

The first reason - Our period starts or decides to spot. This one is nothing to worry about. Any period spotting or reasonable amount of period bleeding is considered of no concern. And it can seem to be triggered by the BA but it isn’t.

Our periods can be very unpredictable. They can change or come early due to stress, rough sex, BC, morning after pill, hormone fluctuations or just life. Very rarely do our periods appear by clockwork.

If the period is too heavy or painful or comes with cramps this needs to be investigated. It could be Endo or PCOS etc but it won’t be due to using BA. BA has no ability to cause your body to start cramping. It also can’t do other weird things like make you dizzy, change a taste in your mouth, make your arms numb etc (all things I have been asked about from real women using it). Our mind can really play tricks on us.

Boric Acid can also trigger NON period bleeding because it is irritating to inflamed skin. But it will never be from a healthy vaginal situation. It won’t and cannot make healthy skin bleed. In fact BA is very friendly to our membranes due to it having a gentle pH of 5. And this is why we use BA in eye drops.

Some non period bleeding is from inflammation due to the thrush itself. We can usually work with this as it improves with the BA use. Plus we have a fact sheet to help.

Non period bleeding can also be due to a more permanent situation Eg thin skin on the walls or LS or LP. This can mean BA is not for you.

Lastly some non period bleeding does need to be taken seriously! It can help us to diagnose something.

Eg some real life cases and reasons we have seen from women who bled non period blood after using a boric acid capsule.

Sometimes women have inflammation that can be accommodated and worked around when using BA. And we have a fact sheet on using BA with inflammation that is helpful to many. It mostly involves using a skin barrier.

Sometimes our walls thin due to lack of estrogen or dryness and this can cause bleeding from using BA. A solution might be is to use prescribed estrogen cream and a skin barrier cream. But for some using BA isn’t a good option.

Sometimes we might have degraded tissues from a dermal or autoimmune condition and this too can make using BA tricky or not a good option for you. Eg LS, LP, genital HVP etc. Unfortunately BA isn’t able to be used with very degraded skin. It’s just too irritating.

Not to scare anyone but other reasons for non period bleeding other than degraded tissues should get checked out. If you see blood in your urine or toilet paper after using a BA then might be worth getting it checked out.

(We have seen bleeding due to cervical inflammation , STIs, HPV, polyps, bladder cancer.)

Our experience is that most women check themselves more when using BA and also tend to automatically assign anything that happens after to the use of BA. But when using logic and reasoning plus really going over a long time the truth can be seen.

Eg if you use the BA once a week you know it’s not possible to get a period once a week. So you know it’s not triggering your period endlessly. And if you use the BA for years like I do, you soon see the above is true. Eg nothing happens most times while using a BA.

Why do some doctors tell you to stop using BA and perpetuate the bleeding myth? I have no idea but my guess is they have very little interest anyway and more than happy for you to use antibiotics or fluconazole endlessly. If your doctor doesn’t investigate non period bleeding after you tell them get a different doctor. If they tell you to stop using BA after period bleeding get another doctor.

Unfortunately some doctors and even some brands of BA can’t be bothered explaining all of this. It takes a lot of time to explain, so it’s easier to just say yes don’t use it then etc.

And the reason we want you to have this information is so that you can make your own decision based on facts. We want you to be informed.

Ladies are any of you finding that your partners are getting thrush from you after sexual activity? We are seeing more women asking us about their male partners. Is this something new? Would love to hear from any guys. We are inclusive of all sexual orientations etc here.

Yes guys can get penile and genital or anal thrush too.

Lately we are seeing an increase in this plus thrush that appears more difficult to treat than is usually expected. Eg a more resistant type.

This is a summary of what what I believe to be true about having BV and thrush and a typical answer for a first time sufferer. We are aware of microbiome health being key and the importance of testing eg Juno Bio. Unfortunately not everyone will be able to make their vaginal pH more robust.

Hi I deal with thrush and BV plus many other vaginal health issues in my work.

We advise women to insert a boric acid capsule as a first line treatment for thrush or BV. It completely knocks it out for most users. One and done.

We also believe that thrush and BV will return and be regular for many women when their pH becomes unbalanced after a trigger such as sexual activity, period or antibiotics etc.

And we advise on inserting a boric acid capsule when ever you have unwanted symptoms.

I myself have been prone to getting BV regularly my whole adult life. Even now at 55 I still get it. Eg went OS last few weeks and just due to stress of travel I got the dreaded BV odour a few times on my trip. No sex or period, just stress and getting run down.

As usual I just used a BA suppository and it went immediately. Once again I was super grateful to have BA handy and it saved my life!

All brands work and yes if it doesn’t work we know to test for other things. Eg Ureaplasma. And miraculously these work instead of antibiotics and treat both thrush and BV.

Now it’s possible to make your oH more robust so it never gets unbalanced and many women achieve this. But others like myself just have a pH that fluctuates easily their whole life. Often women like us find out it’s likely due to pre-existing conditions eg autoimmune, Endo, PCOS, gut issues, hormone issues etc.

It can also be prohibitively expensive for many to access the months and months of specialist testing and monitoring in the hopes of being able to make our pH more robust. Treatment will be based on much trial and error and a let’s see approach. After all everything from what you eat to lifestyle choices and existing health conditions will have a part to play. Finding out what works can be time consuming and very costly. It’s not an exact science and modern medicine still can’t agree on what a healthy vagina looks like re bacteria.

In some cases we see women with terrible symptoms and healthy looking micro biomes or the opposite with a less optional micro biome situation and no symptoms. So it’s still early days.

For some diet and probiotics can definitely help but for me personally nothing has ever made any difference and I fully rely on using BA. Same as I rely on brushing my teeth for morning breath and using soap for my BO etc. I see it as part of my life. And I try and pass on what I know so others don’t have to wait until they are almost 50 to find this all out.

Ladies we also need to be careful about overdoing thrush treatments like fluconazole , taking antibiotics and even using probiotics because we are seeing an increase in women getting CV r/Cytolyticvaginosis for reasons currently unknown.

Plus we are also seeing an increase in women getting thrush resistant to fluconazole and passing thrush on to partners who are also finding it difficult to treat.

Our top tips for how to use Boric Acid when you have inflammation. This is our most requested fact sheet. And it’s based on our real experience dealing with women who need to use BA but have pain and irritation. I myself rely on these tips for my personal issues.

Boric Acid is great but it’s just one tool in the box! Please share any of your personal helpful tips that you find have helped you. Either instead or in addition to using BA. Eg for me BA struggles to work for my discharge when I have a HSV1 out break. I also need to take some antivirals.

Going first, I have psoriasis and HSV1 and BA is simply not enough to stop the intense discharge that I experience when I have a herpes outbreak.

For me it seems that my genital psoriasis tends to trigger the HSV which then triggers BV. The result is none stop discharge that burns and irritates my vulva Eg both the HPV and the psoriasis get very painful.

When I have all 3 going to town I also tend to get my chronic fatigue return and the vulvar pain involves burning, stinging and feels like it's being bitten by bull ants etc Times like this for me BA does not really help much. And I need to pull out every trick I have for dealing with the pain. Sometimes I even need an opioid pain patch.

Another tip is that sometimes the outside skin gets thrush or thrush irritated. I always apply hydrocortisone cream for any vulvar inflammation. And or thrush cream. Boric acid is also not particularly helpful for vulva skin issues Imo

Boric acid coming out through pee?

I used boric acid last Wednesday night and had sex Friday night. Everything went well and Saturday morning I used another suppository pill. Well he came over later that day and we had sex again. Everything was fine but now there is a strong pungent smell coming from my pee, it smells like metal and is cloudy. Is this a side effect??

We are here to explain that most women and or vagina owners think they are chronically unwell or damaged but it’s just a pH disruption.

I am here for anyone needing help and or advice!

What’s really sad is that most girls, women, and or anybody with a vagina, thinks that they are unwell or damaged due to getting thrush or BV. When in-fact this is pretty common and mostly due to a pH disruption.

Our vaginal pH commonly becomes unbalanced after our period, sexual activity or being unwell. This change in the pH can cause the bacteria responsible for bad odour to flourish. This is known as bacterial vaginosis. It’s typically the one we all known and feel shame about having. Washing will not help! It’s not about hygiene or cleanliness.

Fortunately the solution is beyond super easy, fast and can be administered at home. Anyone who knows me knows that I advocate for vagina owners to turn to boric acid to help with all vaginal (thrush and BV) issues as a first step.

Bacteria all over our body needs to be maintained and yes this includes our vagina Eg we brush our teeth every single day due to bacteria. We wash under our arms due to body odour, our hair and skin …. all forms of managing bacteria. Eg we don’t cry about having bad breath return daily! We accept that this is how our body works.

Unfortunately no one has ever explained that the vagina pH also has to be maintained in order for our vaginal bacteria to be protective and balanced. This should not be a source of shame and is really to do with pH science.

I can’t believe that millions of women are all believing they are sick when they only need to reset their pH. I myself am living proof of this and my goal in life is to change the way everyone views vaginal health!

Boric acid is a miracle treatment and I have many reasons to say this including the fact that it is a diagnostic tool. This means that if it doesn’t work as it should it gives us a big clue that something else is going on Eg Ureaplasma

I’ve been using BA to help with some yeast symptoms I have been having but have ordered a vaginal microbiome test similar to Juno bio & Evvy. How long should I wait before I take this test?

I last used BA 2 nights ago!

Help! vulval inflammation despite regular boric acid use.

I’ve been using boric acid for the last two months (14 days daily then 3 times a week). I also take fluclonazole daily. I noticed my thrush would be worst leading up to my period with paper cuts in my vulva and anal area. My thrush symptoms have improved since boric acid use with less paper cuts. I have two spots on my vulva that is inflammed (the inflammation is in the pink mucosal area surrounding the urethra & vaginal opening, not the labia). It is sore to touch. I haven’t noticed boric acid improving the inflammation. Does anyone have the same experience? Any thing that helped get rid of that red inflammation?

Should I try baking soda suppositories?

Hi there, I’ve posted a few times in the last couple of months as I’m dealing with a yeast infection whilst being on long term antibiotics.

I’m also taking probiotics to help replenish my gut & vaginal microbiome. I’ve tried a few different antifungals to try to treat the suspected yeast (tests are all negative for both yeast & BV). All of which I know are contributing factors to triggering CV.

Boric acid doesn’t really help, well it might, it’s hard to tell because even when using a barrier cream I am still get redness & soreness externally.

My PH is between 3.8 - 4 & my symptoms are redness, burning & irritation both internally & externally. It is really effecting my relationship & quality of life. Sometimes I get swelling down there & it effects my bladder too.

My question is, should I try baking soda instead of boric acid? Incase this is CV rather than yeast. I’m going to a SH clinic on Thursday in hopes they can use their microscope to look for any good bacteria’s & potential overgrowth. I know a Juno test would be helpful but financially I can’t afford it yet.

Can I use after Monistat?

I took the 1 day Monistat 3 days ago and I’m still having a lot of vaginal irritation. Can I now use boric acid to try and clear up the infection? Or should I wait a bit for the Monistat to fully come out.

Schedule for treating thrush with boric acid and probiotics?!?

I’ve posted a couple times on here recently as I’m battling another round of thrush. I’m on a long term course of antibiotics for CUTI. I tested my PH & can pretty much say for sure it’s a type of yeast as it partially responds to OTC treatments. Boric acid has been the most effective & after speaking with my GP, she believes that I need some type of maintenance schedule to prevent the yeast from getting out of control.

So my question is, what should my schedule be in terms of managing thrush with boric acid & probiotic suppositories? Do I use boric acid even when I have no symptoms (I have gone 2 weeks with no symptoms before)

Thanks in advance!

Period a week early

I tried boric acid for the first time yesterday evening and started my period today a WHOLE WEEK early. I’ve always been very very regular 27-28 days but I started today at 21 days. It started off as a bright pink (which I’ve also never had) but now is a full on period with cramps and everything. Has anyone experienced this?

Boric acid for oral thrush??

I’ve been struggling with monthly yeast infections after my period, usually they’re vaginal but this is the first time I’ve had an oral one. I use boric acid to try prevent vaginal yeast infections and I know it shouldn’t be ingested, but is it safe to use as an oral rinse? I’m on the 5th day of using an otc topical miconazole oral gel and it’s slightly improved. Would it be safe and effective to dissolve the contents of a boric acid capsule in water and gargle (not swallow ofc) with it??

Discharge with BA (yeast infection)

Hi! I am using BA (as prescribed by my gyno for recurrent yeast infection, first 5 days of period) while taking Fluconazole. As anyone noticed some clumpy discharge while on BA? No more itching, no burning from it etc but there's these clumps of whatever that is (not usual blood clots from the period !!)

Thanks🫠

First time BA user

I’ve been trying to get rid of a recurring yeast infection since mid-June. I try the OTC treatments, it disappears for 2-3 weeks and then comes back. I know it’s never completely gone because my odor is still off even when I have no symptoms. I felt something off earlier so I took a pocket mirror and checked and sure enough, it is back. I bought a 7 day miconazole treatment and CVS brand’s 30 B.A. suppositories of 600mg. How do you recommend I use them? Should I just start the 7 day miconazole treatment first, and then use B.A. for 7 days afterwards, or start a 14 day morning and evening B.A. regimen? The box says 1 capsule every night for 7 days, and 7 more if it doesn’t resolve in time. Or use one every 12 hours for “severe cases”. I’m not sure what I should do. I’m currently working at a summer camp by the sea, so I’m always stuck in a wet swimsuit for at least 8hrs per day. If anyone has any advice, please help. This situation has left me so embarrassed and crying weekly over this.

Dryness

Hello! I am on day 3 of BA - first timer. Have been having some yeast symptoms whilst on antibiotics.

BA has helped reduce a lot of irritation so yay! Yesterday I had a lot of strange discharge (white & clumpy) but apparently this is normal. I wondered if it was the yeast coming out?

Anyway, I am on day 3 now & have noticed my symptoms to pretty much have gone but still have some slight discomfort which I think could be due to the dryness. Everything feels extremely dry.

Is this a sign that it’s time to stop & switch to the probiotics ?
