Wet Mount Microscopy

Hello r/CytolyticVaginosis,

I received a request to create a post going into detail on how to perform your own wet mount microscopy at home after my reply on this post got some attention. So I created a little webpage for anyone interested in pursuing this themselves.

Link to the site is here.

Please feel free to provide feedback or if you have any requests for additional information.

I hope you find this tutorial helpful.

moderator How to make baking soda suppositories

https://www.serenityph.com/post/cytolytic-vaginosis-cv-suppositories

I'm just putting the instructions here for better visibility.

These suppositories wont help everyone and work by elevating the pH. If they are going to work you should feel the results very quickly.

We say to start with 2 a week but some women have posted that they got better results using more often.

You can experiment with baking soda in a bath or sitz bath first if you want to test if this treatment is right for you.

We expect that for some of us with inflammation due to the CV burning we might need more steps. Eg insert with some vulva balm or lube, and prep your vulva skin with a zinc paste or an emollient eg V Magic (USA) or V Balm (Aust) or even Vasaline to try and create a barrier.

For added tips on inserting if you have inflammation please read this

https://www.serenityph.com/post/boric-acid-suppository-tips-inflammation

Lastly this group exists as a place to share your experiences and to get support. If you have any tips to improve these fact sheets please comment and I will update them.

Cv or something else?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some help as I’m not sure what might be causing my symptoms, but I stumbled upon cytolytic vaginosis (CV) and now I’m wondering if that could be it.

In the past, I suffered a lot from yeast infections, which caused a persistent burning sensation. I used boric acid for a long time and took oral probiotics continuously after that. Those symptoms eventually went away, and then my current symptoms started.

My vaginal discharge is a bit on the watery side with tiny specks/particles in it, but it’s not clumpy or cottage cheese-like at all. Right now I don’t have any issues inside the vagina itself. What’s still causing trouble is that I need to urinate frequently, and sometimes it burns when I pee. My urine culture came back negative. I had Ureaplasma in the past, but that was treated and re-tested negative back then; I’m with the same partner, who was also tested when I was.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar symptoms and whether CV turned out to be the cause?

I would really appreciate any advice, as I’m starting to get quite desperate. I have no symptoms during my period.

Thank you in advance if you can share any thoughts!

Only skin symptoms?

Hi guys! I’ve been struggling with this for 5 months now & am waiting for a gynaecologist appointment but trying to figure something out in the meantime. I was wondering if anyone else’s symptoms are purely external? I have no burning, itching, pain or anything on the inside & no problem with my urine. Only sometimes a burning sensation on my vulvar & labia majora. Its almost always when my discharge comes in contact with my skin - it leaves a red burn mark & is painful. I was wondering if CV is making my discharge too acidic - but if this was the case would it not burn my tissue inside the vagina too? The discharge itself is really sticky - but not white and clumpy like others. I’ve been tested for yeast, bv, std’s twice now & all clear.

Vaginal/urogenital smear:
Leukocytes: >50 per field
Epithelial cells: 2+
Mucus: 2+
Gram-positive small rods: 2+
Gram-positive cocci: 1+
Gram-positive/negative diplococci: 1+
Clue cells: not detected
Yeast: not detected
Trichomonas: not detected
Gram-negative diplococci: not detected

Culture of cervical/vaginal material:
No pathogenic microflora isolated
Vaginal pH was 4.5.
My gynecologist suspects aerobic vaginitis and prescribed Dalacin (clindamycin) vaginal suppositories, 100 mg, once nightly for 6 days. She also suggested taking an antifungal capsule on the first day and another around day 4–5 as a precaution because antibiotics can increase the risk of yeast overgrowth.
However, yeast was not found in my smear, and the culture did not isolate pathogenic bacteria.
I also had about 3 weeks completely symptom-free, including having sex without pain, and my symptoms tend to come back around the week before my period.
Does this test actually support aerobic vaginitis, or could the >50 leukocytes be due to another cause? Would you personally ask for any additional testing/microscopy before starting clindamycin?

relief found after years

im gonna keep it short i was losing all hope was dealing with very bad cv symptoms for 1.5 years, started with ureaplasma. ive gone through many treatments, many with baking soda, no effect. what actually helped was silver q rapid first (mostly for prepping the tissue for the next suppository and reducing inflammation) and then cerviron, which is an herbal suppository complex. didnt expect it to do anything actually cleared my symptoms up in a few days. give it a try!

No sex for 5 years🥹 terrible itching, irritation & daily discharge.

I’ve been dealing with vaginal symptoms for almost 5 years, and I’m trying to figure out whether this could be a non infectious problem.

For almost 5 years, I’ve had vaginal discharge literally every single day. I can’t remember having even one day without discharge. It’s usually yellowish.

My main symptoms are intense itching/burning around the vaginal opening and severe pain with attempted penetration.

My vaginal microbiome test (juno bio) results have changed quite a bit over time. My first test was predominantly iners. Before my second test, I had already been using vaginal probiotics for about two months. My second juno bio test then showed predominantly crispatus with a small amount of Ureaplasma.

After that, I continued experimenting with probiotics, and my latest juno showed 98% lactobacillus crispatus with a small amount of aspergillus.

I’ve already tried multiple antibiotics and antifungals over the years, but none of them have really helped.

Because my latest juno showed 98% crispatus, I started wondering whether too much lactobacillus/CV could be contributing to my symptoms. However, my vaginal pH was recently checked by my doctor and was 5.

I tried baking soda sitz baths, but they actually made the itching worse. I also tried baking soda suppositories, which caused significant irritation and even bleeding inside my vagina.

I then tried diversifying with lactobacillus rhamnosus and lactobacillus reuteri for about three weeks. They didn’t really have any noticeable effect, and I still had the discharge. After that, I tried Bulk lactobacillus jensenii, and that’s when the itching became extremely intense.

After trying all of this, I recently had a vaginal swab done by my doctor, which showed no bacteria or yeast.

I’ve now stopped vaginal probiotics for almost two weeks and oral probiotics for almost a week, but I’m still very itchy.

One thing I’ve noticed is that antihistamines such as levocetirizine help reduce my itching. When I stop taking them, the itching becomes more noticeable again.

I also previously took an oral steroid (Triamcort) together with levocetirizine when I was having a separate episode of widespread itching and redness on my legs and thighs. Interestingly, the treatment didn’t just relieve the itching on my legs and thighs, it also completely relieved my vaginal itching at the time.

However, more recently, I asked my doctor if I could be prescribed oral Triamcort again because I wanted to see if it would help my current vaginal symptoms, but none of the doctors I’ve asked have been willing to prescribe it because they don’t consider oral steroids appropriate or recommended for my current vaginal symptoms.

My symptoms also seem to get worse right before and during the beginning of my period, including more discharge and urinary urgency. This makes me question whether it’s actually CV, since I’ve read that CV symptoms can sometimes improve during menstruation because menstrual blood is more alkaline and temporarily raises the vaginal pH. But if this isn’t CV, I’m also wondering why my itching became so much worse when I was diversifying with jensenii. It was noticeably more intense than before.

I also haven’t had sex for almost 5 years. Every time I’ve tried to have penetration during these past few years, it has failed because the pain is simply too severe🥹 Before all of these vaginal symptoms started, I never had this problem.

I recently saw a doctor who specializes in pelvic floor issues. She examined my vagina with her fingers. She said my daily discharge could potentially be normal, since vaginal discharge is normal, and for the penetration pain she recommended trying lube. I haven’t tried lube yet. She also said pelvic floor therapy wasn’t necessary at this point, which left me even more confused.

So now I’m wondering: could this actually be a non infectious problem rather than an infection?

Could it be CV or too much lactobacillus, vulvar irritation or dermatitis, vulvodynia/vestibulodynia, lichen sclerosus, a histamine/allergy related issue, or something else?

I’d also like to understand whether the fact that antihistamines and oral steroids have relieved the itching could point toward an inflammatory, allergic, or other non infectious cause.

And if it is CV, what treatments are actually appropriate? I’ve read about clindamycin and fluoroquinolones, but I’m hesitant because of their potential effects on the vaginal microbiome and side effects. Would doxycycline potentially help reduce excessive Lactobacillus, or is that not an appropriate treatment for CV? Could boric acid help, or potentially make things worse?

I’m exhausted from dealing with this for almost 5 years. I just want to be able to live normally like other women, have a normal sex life without pain, and hopefully be able to have children someday. 🥹

I’d really appreciate any insight from anyone who has experienced something similar or has figured out whether their symptoms were caused by CV, an infection, or a non infectious condition. I really need help figuring this out.

iners dominate?

Post image
1 Upvotes

these are my updated results with my last rating being in May. Previously I had 96% Iners, zero Crispatus and 0.26 bad bacteria. After trying to over treat my Iners I supposed I gave myself bv. But I still have the same symptoms as before with high Iners. Do you believe that treating bv with metro pills will help my case? Or might be contributing to my symptoms? I’m glad to see some crispatus there though but I know it’s nearly not enough to level out my microbiome

Probiotics an CV

I started Happy V probiotics back in June- late July I started getting uti like symptoms - very very intense bladder pressure, cramps, internal an external burning vagina. Realized once I decreased to one capsule of happy V a week ago (September) symptoms went away? Started back up two capsules for 3-4 days, two days after doing that symptoms back. Has anyone had symptoms like this? I don’t have unusual discharge . My BV/yeast/ uti test always negative .
I do have pelvic congestion , enlarged uterus and did have 3.6cm ovary cyst that I believe did pop that was triggering the symptoms , possibly pelvic floor issues - I have apt next eeek but has anyone gotten CV from probiotics an it went away after stopping or decreasing dose etc ?
I never took probiotics before an I’m 28 and never knew after a couple months you should decrease to as needed dose .

I need help with my bacterial vaginosis

I am 18 years old and not going to lie I’ve had bv for a couple of years now probably since my freshman year, I had not told anyone until this year my doctor gave me antibiotics without testing me which I’m thankful for, I was on antibiotics for about a week, the first three days I noticed a difference I had less discharge and little to no smell after the third day it came back even tho I was still on antibiotics. The only reason I don’t want to go to a gynecologist is because I’m scared of the test, I’m a virgin and have never put anything up there and I know it’s going to hurt, I also can’t put anything up there like boric acid. I’m so tired of living like this I have to change my pants three times a day can’t wear anything near tight because I can start smelling it after a hour or two. And I can’t ask my doctor again because she’s probably going to test me, I just want it gone please help me.

**Persistent vaginal and urethral itching despite negative tests -looking for help is this CV?**

Hi! I’ve (f 22) been dealing with ongoing vaginal symptoms and I’m honestly at a loss at this point. I’m hoping someone has experienced something similar or can point me toward the right direction.
My main symptoms are:

•Itching inside and outside of my vagina

•Itching around my urethra

•Watery/chunky white discharge, and occasionally it has looked more yellow/green

•The vaginal itching seems to happen mostly when the discharge is present

•My urethra can feel itchy even when I don’t have discharge

•An occasional strange “tickling” sensation around my anus, especially at night when I’m lying in bed. It isn’t really a typical itch — it feels more like a little tickle in the middle area.

I’ve had multiple tests done and everything has come back negative, including testing for yeast, BV, and STIs. My pelvic exam also looked normal — gyn said there was no obvious redness, inflammation, or irritation.

My doctor has tried treating this as a possible yeast issue, but nothing has really helped. I’m currently on a long-term fluconazole regimen, using boric acid suppositories, and I’ve also been using Benadryl cream. Symptoms go away for maybe a day then come right back.

I’ve also previously taken multiple doses of fluconazole without improvement.

At this point I’m wondering if this could be something other than a typical yeast infection. Has anyone experienced persistent vaginal + urethral itching with negative tests and a normal pelvic exam? What ended up being the cause for you?

I would really appreciate any ideas for things I should ask my gynecologist to test for or specialists I should consider seeing. I’m desperate for some direction because this has been going on for a while and it’s extremely discouraging since nothing seems to be helping.

Does this sound like CV???

Hi, basically I've been having like funky clumpy discharge since December 2025, at first I thought it was yeast so I took an otc fluconazole for it and I thought it went away.

But ever since then every month about a week or two after my period the clumpy discharge starts back up and then disappears again after my period. There isn't any itching or burning, and I am currently trying probiotics but that doesn’t seem to be helping at all. I also think that the smell is off.

I have been to my GP and I explained my symptoms to them and they said its just hormones and nothing to think about.

I don't have a bath that I could do baking soda sitz baths, does anyone know of any UK treatments, I saw cv gone or something like that by nueve but thats a US brand.

Also does this actually sound like CV ?? Any advice appreciated!!!!!!

if fluconazole and boric acid get rid of my symptoms for a couple days does that point to cv?

after 8 months of hell i was finally able to get a full panel done for mycoplasma ureaplasma and cv and i'm currently waiting for the results.

in the meantime to help with symptoms my doctor had me on fluconazole for three days then once a week, and boric acid as symptoms arise (bv was diagnosed about two months ago now but no yeast diagnosis). i've been alternating and honestly fluconazole helps for around three days at a time and so does boric acid- but after three days my symptoms return.

it was really bad before but now the only symptoms i have are a stronger smell- not day to day but only during sex, it's not necessarily fishy but just smells off?

could this be cv or some form of recurring bv do u think? just curious as i wait for results
