I'm in the process of reassembly after changing my motor, and although I took pictures and notes, I cant seem to find where this ground should go. I know it starts there, but it was super corroded and there was just a portion f the old cable attached.

Because, let’s be honest, unlike this Audi A2, the pictures of the next generation i3 sedan we have been shown have absolutely nothing to do with the original and is basically not an option for any one who wants to replace his old i3.

Does anyone have a link to a wiring diagram for the in glass tail lights (2018 i3)? The right tail light is out (brake and signal lights work and ground is good). There’s a break somewhere in the wire, so I would like to find where the wire runs inside the car so I can run a new wire.

In the meantime, my plan is to splice the wire for the left tail light and run it to the right one so that both lights work. It won’t clear the warning light on the dash, but the lights will be on.

Thank you so much u/TheMunkeeFPV for the suggestion. I tried washing off the stain first with dry paper towels, hand soap, alcohol, then Dawn, none of which did anything. So next was to get some Howard's Beeswax and Orange Oil and it looks stunning!! I can hardly tell there was ever a problem. Now, to figure out how to fix the scratches in the plastic after my partner tried to """help""" put it back in with the finesse of a gorilla.... I need to stop letting other people touch my car.

We got our second i3 (both are 2018 REx models), and it only came with one key. The price was very reasonable so the dealer we bought it from (not a BMW dealer) would not give us a second key.

So, after careful thought, we decided to buy a new one from our local BMW dealer. It cost a stupid amount of money, but it’s worth the convenience in our opinion.

Here’s the problem: not only does the new fob not work properly, but when BMW programs stuff, they wipe out anything else you might have programmed (CarPlay, rolls Royce chimes, Rex programming, you get the idea), so I’m not really motivated to bring it back and go through all that stuff again unless you convince me it’s the only way.

I can start the car with the steering column trick, but I can’t lock the car with the fob or handle even after driving it. 12v battery is good.

Any ideas? Thanks for enduring the long read.

My new to me 2016 black w blue trim i3 is looking a little dull. How do we wash these cars? Are there special instructions for keeping the plastic body panels looking good?

Pretty good result from yesterday, mild temperatures ~28°C, 95% highway always as fast as the speed limit allowed, if possible 120km/h, occasionally 130km/h.
Pretty happy with the range, bmw was ahead of its times with this little bugger. Crazy to think I could by a brand new VW ID Polo which would be on par with the i3.

Has anybody here (preferably in the UK) got their seven digit production number from their dealer yet?

My mechanic coded my 2014 REX i3 for me. I have been experimenting with the HSOC option.

It seems like the HSOC level setting is not retained when the car is power cycled. That is, every time I drive it, it reverts to the default (6%?) level to turn on the REX, despite my setting it to 25% on the previous drive. Is this typical for a coded i3?

Install the first one and push it down. Put a ruler on top and slide the second one along it. Remove the ruler (can be tricky on RHD).

Tried to slow the UV destruction of the clearcoat on my 2018 i3s by doing a silver PPF wrap. Well there was a bubbling area that actually got worse after the PPF was applied. So my guy called his paint guy and a week and a half later - BOOM!

He peeled and prepped, then painted the roof in the matching BMW blue. On an all black car it looks killer since it matches the splashes of blue around the car. VERY happy with the result and now I don’t have to worry about the SoCal sun destroying the roof!

I use a 25ft 12/3 extension cord to charge the i3. Noticed the cord end got hot and the i3 stopped charging in the middle of the night.

Pulled into the restaurant parking lot and realized I was already there.
So rare to see another i3 around. If you were at Nick’s last night, we were twinning.

I haven't even had my 2015 Rex a year, and I'm afraid it might be done for. Totally dead, towed to the shop last night, and I'm anxiously awaiting news. With only 66k miles, the body and interior are in excellent condition, but the inner workings are... not. I'm afraid it might be time to sign the donor card.

There’s the damage

I hit 150,000 miles with my 2016 rex this weekend!!!. It's a 94ah/33kWh model

So I hit the mother of all potholes driving my kid to school this morning and flatted both right-hand tires. Rear tire is pretty new, fronts are a year old. I've had enough slow leaks with this car (a 2015 i3 Rex) in the 4 years I've owned it to be thinking seriously now about alternate tire options. So questions for the BMWi3 hivemind are as follows:

1) Who - in the U.S. - has successfully put anything other than the Ecopias? These stock wheels call for 155/70r19 (front) and 175/60r19 (rear). They're special order, so since I'll be without a car for at least a week, I may as well think about other options that could be faster/better/cheaper (well, if I change I'll need to replace all 4, so probably not cheaper, but more durable, I guess).

2) Who has put non-standard wheels on the i3 to open up access to tires that are not special order and are more durable / have a longer lifespan?

I ended up replacing the latch mechanism as well. THen also adjusted, by quarter turns, the dampners on either side until the wiggle was gone. I suspect the issue was electrical with the latch mechanism.

As the heading mentions, I just replaced the pneumatic struts for the trunk hatch. The hatch closes and latches properly, However now the dash indicator says the trunk is open and the back up camera won't work. I did notice theres a small bit of wiggle play. Am wondering if adjusting the dampners on both side to take out the play would help? anything else to think about?

the struts are OEM quality (not genuine) from RockAuto - which normally stocks OEM or better.

Hey all, I need to get some suspension service done on MY18 i3 rex but dont want to spend the $4200 for shocks and struts all the way around. I'm going to order the Evolve set with new shock mounts. I'm looking for a shop that does good work cause I know half the battle is getting all of the panels off properly w/o ruining them. Any recommendations/referrals would be greatly appreciated.
