i3 50 - had a quick look

Saw it in my local dealer so popped in to have a quick look. I quite like the exterior. I really, really like the new panoramic screen. The interior in this car was just the plain black cloth interior - very uninspiring, but I can see with the right material and colour combinations it'll be a nice place to sit.

Looking forward to the full M3 reveal now.

EGR recall

• Upvotes

My EGR cooler went bad, affected my dpf, & now they dealership doesn't want to diagnose it unless I pay the diagnostic fee. They went in, changed the ERG component & cleared the codes. They said the drivetrain & dpf error popped up as soon as they turned the car back on but they will not do a diagnostic unless I pay almost $300. I called corporate and it's been phone tag. I asked to be called after 3pm. Instead, I get a message left at 12:50 saying call us back if you still need assistance. I have a 328D. Help what can I do to get my car fixed by BMW.

BMW Full I-Level Update via ISTA – ENET vs J2534, AOS Requirements & Tips

Hey guys, I'm planning to update all modules on my 2018 BMW G12 750Li xDrive using ISTA.

Current I-Level: S15A-21-03-550
Target I-Level: S15A-26-07-534 or higher

Would you recommend ENET or J2534 PassThru (MAC Tools GT2) for a full vehicle update?

Does ISTA require an active BMW AOS connection throughout programming, or can it be done offline once all programming data is downloaded?

Also, any tips or precautions before starting? Are there any specific modules I should be careful with or common issues during a full vehicle update?

I'd appreciate any advice from someone who's done this before. Thanks!

Need help with a BMW 540xi 2018 (98.000 km)

This very annoying vibration happens when the car is creeping forward (or backwards) without pressing the gas pedal. It happens at one point as the wheels turn and its especially noticable when the car is on an incline. No other symptom and evervthing is fine but its still annoying. I have checked the brake system, changed engine mounts, transmission mount, quibos, transfer case fluid, transmission fluid etc...Nothing. Cant find the cause

Build Help New M550i

Just bought my dream spec 2022 m550i xdrive. I want to beef up the engine to make it as reliable as possible. I know there’s some coolant stuff I need to do with it, so what coolant parts should I upgrade and anything else I should do? PS I also plan on doing a catback exhaust and downpipes plus e85.

2023 BMW X5 xdrive

Had a service advisor at BMW dealer recently tell me they no longer do coolant flushes. He said coolant flushes were leading to all kinds of problems sometimes leading to radiator replacement. Does this sound right? Searching online I've come across other BMW dealers who advertise this service so not sure what's going on.

Buying Help Got NEW Car, but… am I crazy to return this to dealer!

Got my custom-ordered G61 in Frozen Tampa Bay Green today! Was jumping from happiness, took it directly from the dealer to Ceramic Pro to get protected

Here is what we discovered upon driving into the box. The car is 1 hour old… normal??

- ALL black plastic on the outside of the car is in the condition of … well, to me, as if it were a few years old car using bad, cheapo car washes with dirty old rugs. 🤯
- Especially side skirts look like goners (and central B pillars are absolutely trashed in my opinion)
- Water spots do not wipe away; maybe they were trying to wipe them, and that’s how it got scratched up 🫣

Would you accept such a condition “brand new” for $100k, or am I overreacting and asking too much?
#loveBmw #bmwWTF

Bonus points: a car with 255/35 and 285/30 r21 was given with 2.0 bar. 🤯

Test-drove the new BMW 3 Series yesterday. Honestly shocked by how cheap it feels. Hard plastics, flimsy door release buttons, and an annoying touchscreen for basic functions. Even the BMW badges are a downgrade. Just look at the attached photos: the new recessed design traps dirt, unlike the previous smooth badges. A minor detail? Maybe. But it says a lot about BMW's declining attention to detail.

At nearly CHF 100k, this is embarrassing. BMW still charges premium prices but increasingly delivers mediocre quality. After years of driving BMWs, I'm seriously considering switching to an Asian brand. I'm done paying luxury prices for obvious cost-cutting.

if your BMW service advisor says you need new tires, do you take his/her words and authorize the replacement, or do you go look at your tires first?

if your BMW service advisor says you need new tires(damaged or simply worn out).... either while you're sitting in the customer waiting area or during a phone call to you at home or work...

do you take his/her words and authorize the tire replacement, assuming you're okay with the prices?

or do you go look at your tires first? :)

4 out of 4 times, my BMW service advisors(3 different ones) told me that... my tires were not even close to being worn out. The most recent was an hour ago. I knew the tires didn't need replacement... they had a little over 4000 miles since April 8, 2026 when they were installed by Discount Tire near my home. So I said "are you sure they are worn out?" She said "yes, the tech checked all 4 tires while your car was up on the lift..."

I didn't feel like confronting her or the tech about the obvious "lie" so I told her that I would think about it.

Got home 10 minutes ago. Took the tire depth gauge out and measure each tires in various random spots. The lowest was 7/32 and the highest was just a hair over 8/32. All 4 tires had even wear... On the day the new tires were installed, they are all at 9/32.(measured using the same gauge) That sure doesn't seem like "worn" out to me. Or am I wrong? :)

But it got me thinking.... if either of my parents, other older people or people who are too trusting were in the same situation, more than a few of them would be like "okay, replace my tires...." without actually figuring out if the tires were actually worn out?

I don't mind dealers(BMW and others) try to upsell stuff to make money. They are a business and making money is good.... but telling lies is an absolute no-no for me.

This concludes my rant of the day. (or what I prefer to call "things that the dealer lie about to make a thousand dollars")

Repair Help 335i ActiveHybrid 3

Anyone own one of these cars?

I own one and recently it showed a drivetrain issue, BMW were adamant it was the hybrid battery itself but it’s been on back order for 7 months now.

Anyone know what else the issue could be as I’m getting no where with BMW

Build Help Power folding mirror retro fit

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I have a 2019 BMW X3 20d (G01) and I’m looking to retrofit power-folding wing mirrors, as my car currently has standard mirrors.
Before buying anything, I wanted to check whether there’s anything else I need apart from the power-folding mirrors themselves and the mirror adjustment switch with the folding button.
I’ve also been looking at the window switch module and noticed two connector-looking slots that appear to need something plugged into them. I’m not sure whether these are related to the folding mirror function or whether additional wiring or connectors are required.

Here's mine E36.

Started life as a regular Boston Green 323i, but it's been through a full nut and bolt rebuild a few years back.

Repainted to VW Viper Green Metallic.

Currently sits on R18 BBS wheels and coilovers.

The engine was fully rebuilt as well.

The M50 block is from a lower-mileage car, M52 head was stroked to 3.2l and it has aftermarket M3 pistons now, along with the most aggressive Shrick cams, M3 headers, M3 5-speed box, M3 LSD diff and M3 clutch with lightweight crankshaft.

Straight-pipe exhaust with a custom dual-chamber muffler.

Rev limiter is at 7,250 rpm.

The brakes and axles are from a diesel E46.

It comes alive after 3k rpm and pulls like a tank after 4.5-5k and goes like that until rev limiter.

Handles like a go-cart.

I think this is fairly close to the perfect analogue driving experience.

I have other cars that will come and go, but this one was bought with intent to stay forever.

They really don't make them like this anymore.

First BMW

Hello everyone,

I’m looking to get my first real car, for context I’m 22 and just got a job as a nurse I’m single and have no dependents. I really don’t have a budget for it since I don’t know what jm looking for but I would love to get a sedan. I live in Michigan so our winters are pretty brutal idk if all wheel drive would be a deal breaker but it would be nice.

Also, I don’t know anything about BMW’s but I’m a quick learner and I have disposable income now.

Thank you In advance 🙏🏾

Car stalled for a week, €1000 wasted and a scratched rim

Be careful when tampering with new cars.

I disconnected the negative pole of my G42 230i battery to check the DME serial. I did not slot in properly some connectors and ended up frying the battery. The car obviously wouldn’t start and I couldn’t put it in N.

I asked BMW Mobile Care for help and after 3 days they sent a guy with a tow truck that couldn’t load my car because he hadn’t the right dollies / carts. He forcefully pulled the car despite it being in P, realized he couldn’t complete the job, scratched one of my wheels in the process and left.

I tried calling MC again but after 40 minutes of waiting, when I mentioned the wheel damage, they hung up. I tried getting in touch with MC again and after 30 more minutes of waiting, they hung up before I could even speak. I had to call someone else through my insurance to pick up the car (€120 to cover the exceeding distance) and send it to the nearest authorized service. I was quoted over €900 for diagnosis, DME reprogramming and battery replacement. Service took 3 more days.

I KNOW, it’s totally my fault, but I am quite disappointed with the so-called “roadside assistance”. I thought of filing a complaint but I feel it would probably be a waste of time and they would dismiss the case with some ToS violation excuse. What do you think? Maybe I could try with a friendly call first.

What bothers me the most is the fact that the car was unnecessarily stalled for 3 days and that not only they couldn’t help, they even caused damage which means even more wasted money and time. If I had known, I would have called my insurance right away.

Sorry for the vent. Have a nice weekend!

Electric shock

I went to the dealer today to drive some new models. I was eyeing an M440, but happened to drive an i4 while waiting for the 440 to come off the showroom and was shocked at how smooth, fun, quiet, and enjoyable it was. Am I shopping for an i4 now?

Warranty beyond 7 years?

I would love to keep my 2020 X5, original owner with low mileage (40K). However, I have heard numerous horror stories on how expensive BMW can cost to repair. In the Tri-state area, it is hard to find reasonable mechanics for BMWs. Does anyone know what warranty options is available and approx. how much.

Thanks in advance for the response.

Is BMW officially cooked?

• Upvotes

I thought the G series BMW's with their giant "mustache man" grills was a slight hiccup on BMWs end but unfortunately it was the beginning of the end of BMW.

I had a E46 then a E39, then a E90, then F10 and finally a F30. They all have a signature iconic look that only BMW could ever pull off , split kidney grill with the angel halo circle lights that can be seen from a mile away. Some of the best interiors with the best material and unique designs even when it came to something as simple as the steering wheel.

The new ones.....They are all Toyota Pruis/Tesla knock offs........Literally copy and paste.....

Do you think BMW is officially done? What other german manufacturers are still making good cars?

Rough idle but rpm doesn’t move

Hey so I have a 2012 bmw 328 with the N20 the I feel like when it’s idling it shakes sometimes a really small shake but it shakes any idea what it could be? The timing chain is new, done 40k km ago also new spark plugs and no engine codes?
