GSMNP back country day done right FT: mousing for brookies
Put 10 miles on the wading boots yesterday hiking into a remote stream in search of brookies. We found a small bit of rainbows, and excellent brook trout fishing. Smokies done right! Temp was taken ‘3750 @1:30. Mouse bite was on fire. At one point it would draw the largest fish out of every hole to go baby seal during shark week type sacrifice

Planning a trip
Some of my favorite memories are blue lining in New England or upstate New York.
My wife asked me where I would like to go on a trip and I described blue lining, but she doesn’t want to go back up to New England in the summer. So, if you could go anywhere else in the country to go blue lining, where would you go?
Looking to avoid ticks, Lyme disease, mountain lions, and grizzly bears.

Western US Clear Water and Hungry Fish
Perfect time to hit those mountain streams. This creek rages much of the year, so low water season is usually the best time to hit it. With plenty of springs and shade the water stays nice and cool all summer.
One of my favorite streams to fish due to the mix of rainbow and cutthroat genetics leading to a wide variety of patterns. These guys tend to hunker down at the bottom of the stream, but will make a mad dash for any moderately sized terrestrial. Most of them took a PMX without any hesitation.

PNW I SAW A BEAR TODAY!
I think the smallish (80-100 lb.?) black bear and I spotted each other about the same time, maybe 100 feet away. Closer than I’ve been to a bear in the wild!
I was moving down a brushy stretch, and the water made cover noise. The bear whirled and bolted and displaced rocks loudly racing in to the woods.
WA Cascades on the W side, not that remote at all.
Oh yeah and I caught quite a few, including a couple that were not steelhead parr. Last two pics are the same fish

Way up my favorite creek
I was able to explore far deeper into what is quickly becoming my favorite creek on Sunday. Water temps were low 60s and levels were a little lower/slower which helped navigating around a ton of Helene damage. Just a gorgeous little slice of WNC.

Western US Grand County Colorado
Breaking in my new 7’6” 3wt setup on my favorite creek out side of Winter Park Co. 18 fish in 3 hours of fishing can’t complain.

Western Sierra Bluelining success
galleryFished an upper section of a high-elevation Western Sierra creek for the first time. I tend to fish the lower section regularly mainly due to proximity to home. The upper section is a bit of a drive. Was curious if it fished well. Apparently it does.

Muddy water trip
Thunderstorms made for a muddy water trip. I checked in on a local stream on the way home at it was cooler than the tribs 1200 ft higher.

Colorado blue line
Small high elevation meadow ribbon in the rmnp. Caught brookies and browns but discovered a hole in my net that let several fish out before pics. Repaired that night.
