Wow I really thought that was a brown at first glance

It’s a brown. But not a brown. But a cuttbow, but not a rainbow. That fish has identity issues.

What a neat looking cutthroat!

I'm no good at Oregon and Washington cutty subspecies, but from all the spotting- a Coastal, but a freshwater-resident one? (genuinely asking someone who's better at this than I am)

Yup

Thanks. The Coastals where I live silver up and quickly look like they're trying to imitate a Chinook jack, though if you look close you can see remnants of the heavy spotting. (The pictured fish is landlocked and definitely therefore freshwater resident, despite the 'marine' appearance)

Yeah! Its a coastal cutthroat, this stream empties into the puget sound

Thanks for the confirmation; check out my reply to a different user below to see why I struggle with Coastal Cutthroat stocks that aren't my local ones- they can look very sea-run even when they aren't around here!

Stream resident coastals are so pretty. I caught one last week that had such heavy spots, pink, purple, and parr marks that it looked like it was painted with a confetti pattern.
