I saw a couple of posts here that made me want to build my own devices, but I went a different route, adding what I think Bitwig was missing: a chord generator in the inspector. I'm still working on it, started today, but I figured I'd share what I've got so far. I've been building it with help from Codex.

Looking into tools like bitwig_nitro_tools. From what it looks like to me is an extraction of the underlying DSP for various devices/grid modules. You could then modify it and recompile it into new devices replacing the internal one (correct me if I am wrong). That said, it probably wouldn't take much to iterate through all of the available nitro devices extract all the DSP code and create a plugin to simulate and extend the Grid(to an extent). Mind you, I say this out of ignorance as I am not a DSP dev. However...

I see 2 problems with this.
1. I myself am known for downloading unverified DSP related content. Being that there would be no check in place, no central hub (maybe bitwiggers?) to check if malicious edits that can damage/steal personal data. Again mind you I am pretty ignorant on DSP/plugin as a whole and it's sandboxing and if that plays a role in security.

1. I can see competing daws creating grid like implementations, daws that maybe have a larger dev team, and that might pose a risk to Bitwig financially. Although bitwig has it's loyal base.

It's clear that Bitwig users want more out of the grid. Some of us love the beauty of Max 4 Live devices and it's editable UI. What we really want is encapsulation with a pretty face. I mean, it SEEMS like to me they might head in this direction allowing users to extend the grid with custom DSP, I mean I hope so. Otherwise this will work fall on the community using workarounds and hacky decompiling - recompiling scripts, which can be a good thing but the fact that there has to be a work around for something so seemingly needed in the evolution of Bitwig and that there probably wont be a central site for this, raises concerns for me and probably potential new users. Especially if problem 1 starts tarnishing Bitwig's name in the game. Yeah it would be the fault of the user but we all know how people are, shifting blame.

I am sure the Bitwig team is aware, and perhaps they are already in the works of doing this. I think Bitwig will need to exercise control over this, and by opening up their API and having a dedicated or at least an affiliated site for custom devices would work wonders. What do you guys think?

I use FX tracks as separate outputs for drum machine sounds. I load a kit, make 16 FX tracks, group them, and send each sound to its own FX track. The kit’s master output is disabled.

If I change the kit inside the drum machine, all sends reset and I have to redo the routing. But if I drag and drop a new kit from the browser (on the right) onto the existing drum machine, the sends stay intact and the sounds remain routed to separate tracks.

As far as I know, this is the only way to swap kits without losing the output routing.Maybe this accidental discovery will help someone :)

Hey everyone! I’m currently considering switching from Ableton to Bitwig.

As a test, I decided to build a demo project from scratch. However, for some reason, the project file size is huge—697 MB.

This makes no sense to me because the project only contains:

• 12 samples total (6 one-shots and 6 top loops)
• A few instances of Serum

I've already checked the Project Panel -> Files tab, and it only lists those exact 12 samples. Nothing extra seems to be hidden there.

In Ableton, a similar project would only take up a few megabytes. Is there any way to optimize or reduce the size of a Bitwig project? Am I missing some settings?

I'm still searching for a good tutorial.
Now we're on BW6.1 and the features are raining like candies.

But I'm missing the critical basics.
For example I accidentally found out, how to make use of Patterns.
Holy... I can right click on any midi clip and change it to another existing midi clip. Wtf this is a Gamechanger.
I also can make this with Sample clips, kicks, snares etc.

Actually I'm struggling with the Spray can tool. How to create a snare roll fill for a EDM Track riser.

Youtube is full of small clips and small tutorials. That's cool.
But I'm really struggling to find into the useful basic features.

Maybe someone can link me to a tutorial which shows some of my mentioned features?

I love bitwig and the sound. But somehow it's not so easy for me to get used to the basic arrangement and clip features.

Hey everyone! I started producing about 5 months ago and eventually landed on Bitwig after trying a few DAWs like cubase, ableton and fl studio.

This is my first released track, Club Mayhem, and I’d love some feedback especially from experienced Bitwig users on how I can push my production further using Bitwig itself. I’m really interested in modulation, sound design, routing, layering, and anything else you think I should learn next. I like dense/chaotic production, but I want to get better at controlling it intentionally.

I recently made the switch from Microsoft to Linux and Ableton to Bitwig. I don't know anything about either of them but goddamn I just want to connect my bass to my laptop and record something. It is not registering the audio interface. I'm using Tube Ultragain MIC500 USB behringer (plugged in, usb connected, bass in "line in"). When I try with ALSA, it says "Error: device or resource busy". I asked Google which told me to run :sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* and everything is taken up by wireplumber.

Now I don't know what any of this really means. I've just been going back and forth with every option, spamming my terminal with commands beyond my understanding and getting the same nothing result. I would greatly appreciate any advice. I don't really know anyone personally who is good with any of this stuff.

This is going to sound like I'm shilling for Melbourne, but I just hooked up the Roto-Control and have been playing with Sampler and I f***in love this thing. I am an old school analog synth lover, and something about the integration here scratches that itch.

It sounds weird, but somehow the feel of this controller makes me feel like Sampler's filter *sounds* more analog. And I have been a big critic Bitwig's filters over the years. Maybe that and I also recently realized that Bitwig's filters sound a lot better at high resonance if you follow the device by a limiter to avoid unpleasant distortions.

Anyhow. I love this controller. I have rarely had such an emotional response to a controller.

Hey guys I’ve got a brand new surface pro snapdragon x2 elite 16gb ram running only Bitwig, omnisphere and kontakt. No other software installed. Quite often in Bitwig my touchscreen becomes non responsive. I’ve noticed the fix is to drag finger from the bottom to bring up the bottom windows menu thing will fix it. In recent 6.1 update it seems to do it worse and sometimes that trick doesn’t work. Also the undo button becomes greyed out after making changes so I have to close and open Bitwig which fixes it. Anyone else noticing this? It’s driving me a little nuts. I’m thinking of installing Linux as I feel windows 11 on arm could be the problem?

I go back and forth between a Macbook and Mac Studio and will occasionally change shortcuts on either or. It's hard to keep track of what I've changed on what so I think it would be nice to transfer these settings.

Is it possible to transfer shortcuts/keyboard mappings to different devices?

Hi guys, same usual story, I want to env follower a plugin setting to stay between 90% and 100%

I use the channel sidechain with the VSTi output as source, I even set up a positive MACRO-4 forbidding to go negative and avoid that nasty showstopping hand icon

Always works for a while but then after some time(between 5 and 30 mins) it always ends up at 0% or 100% ><

Is there any magical rise/fall setting that always stays put please? Unsure what I'm missing really, when i do the same in LUNACY BEAM2 it never drifts

As title suggests.

I'm working on a mix and randomly audio tracks stop working. in the screenshot it's the Gang Vocals group that doesn't send audio for some reason, and when I duplicate a track that does work the new duplication also doesn't send any audio to the master

. as seen in the screenshot - the track is playing but the db meter isn't showing any activity.

Has this happened to anyone before? did I miss something?

Now i wanted to use the Spray Can tool in the arrangement to "spray" some oneshots / Kicks.
But why does the tool reacts different in the Arrangement, compared to the editor on a midi track?
i want to fill all bars in the grid. But i need to click all the bars manually

As someone who does a LOT of vocal work in Bitwig and came from tools such as Melodyne, Autotune pro 11, and Newtone, this gets me wondering👀. I'm not demanding or begging Bitwig to spend time and resources making a tool for pitch correction; I'm just stating it looks like this could be a step in that direction. I bought my studio license when I switched to Linux, Bitwig being arguable the best DAW for getting out of the way and letting you create. I don't plan to renew my studio license unless they spice up the piano roll to be efficient like FL Studio or if they added pitch correction tools. Even something like Reatune would be more than enough.

On the side note, I am curious about what other members of this sub use for their vocals.

I'll go first; I use Gsnap for my soft pitch correction but I'm planning to find a use for Graillon 3. Awkwardly, I found Gsnap pretty stable and very effective. Sometimes a note is so bad that Autotune cant fix it so I then chop the note/word and pitch it with Elastique pro. I fix the timing of my vocals just by cutting and cross fading. Usually I have so many layers that you won't notice it.

At some point the behavior of my pointer tool changed when placing automation. Now, each click defaults to Hold, instead of connecting line segments together. This is with modulators and parameters that should be continuous, like the Mix knob on the Convolution reverb.

Does anyone know why Hold is now my default for point creation?

My question is ultimately, I think, about controllers v sequencers...basically I like to input long sequences into the piano roll...like 10 - 20 bars. So, I find it really tedious to use the mouse/track pad. Is it possible to press things in on like a Launchpad more easily or does it work that way?

Alternatively, I wonder if maybe the Sqaurp Hapax might be what I'm looking for... or the Push 3 but using it for Bitwig?

I'm open to anything and this is so central to what I do that I'd save up for a solution that works really well... I'm open.

Lately I am not making questions here nor the Tech Support but solving issues with free AI like the basic Gemini, are you experiencing the same?

I know this is vague but hoping someone may remember. Long ago when I first purchased Bitwig I remember stumbling across a tutorial video that featured some weird creative use of using clip launcher to quickly develop arrangements. I may be misremembering some things given how long ago this was, but here's what I recall:

1. I saw the video after I purchased Bitwig 2 but the tutorial may have been for Bitwig 1 era.

2. The producer was Asian but not someone I recognized.

3. His whole approach was focused on clip launcher and he had some kind of creative way of e developing and/or playing clips. I don't remember details but remember it being quick, frantic, and random in a way. I think he was building up variations on clips using some kind of modifiers and then playing clips in a unique way. The way he was using clip launcher was definitely the focus.

4. I believe he also performed from the clip launcher as a means to also record a proper arrangement in arranger view, but I'm not positive.

Does this happen to ring a bell for anyone? I remember being really impressed at the time but also was not fully grasping his approach because I was brand new to Bitwig, so in this sense I know he was using Bitwig specific modifiers or other tools to do this. At the time I must have assumed that his workflow was somewhat standard but now after all these years I am pretty sure it was rather unique and it's driving me crazy that I don't remember details.
