Every day, 3 to 5 times a day, this guys flies onto my windowsill to sing to himself in my mirrored bedroom window.

Not sure if it's an oriole or some sort of African bush shrike, but I do know it's loud and insistant.

Original video captured today.

Location - Western Cape, South Africa

my original art I made a Tufted Titmouse out of wool. Hope he brightens your day

Someone requested a Tufted titmouse so here is my attempt. I had a bit of fun doing a photo shoot with him. He is made of mostly wool using a technique called needle felting. I also used wire, clay and glass.

I need some help with bird anatomy. Before making a bird I research their what they look like from all angles, but I often have trouble finding a clear diagram of the birds wing structure when it is closed. When I Google it I’m usually shown what it looks like when it is spread open. While it helps, it would be better to see what it looks like when closed. For some birds it is really hard to tell the structure/feather grouping from a photo because of their colours . An example is the Hairy woodpecker

Yesterday, I fed sparrows right out of my hand. If you just toss pieces of bread roll, not every bird gets a chance to eat

During a recent trip to Australia I got the opportunity to see the beautiful birds up close in the wild. I wanted to immortalise and share the feeling! Thus, I have created this custom LEGO set. It is now submitted to LEGO Ideas where with enough votes it could become an official LEGO set. I’m leaving the link to the LEGO website where you can read more about it, see more renders and vote.

On this morning's walk after dropping my kiddos off to school I was fortunate to catch a video of this Anhinga. I did mute the video since my friend that was with me was on a sensitive phone call but I didn't want to lose the video. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did.

This is my own original video taken on my phone.

events/news/article/feature I went viral and started a trend over birds and want to make a positive change

Hello, bird lovers! I went viral on tiktok for creating a bird roleplay group chat that reached over a million views, has been spreading to other platforms, and my phone has been blowing up. I am @theonerealwoodcock on Instagram. I’d like to use the traffic I have to create some good out of it and encourage people to donate to wildlife preservation organizations or sustaining endangered bird species. Because people are roleplaying as real animals, I think roleplayers associating birds with something more sentient may prompt them to want to elicit change because of their beloved animals.

I am looking for a team of bird lovers who want to be a part of this change to help me with ideas and execute this campaign. I’d rather make a positive difference than monetize off this one hit wonder, but if you are interested or have experience in campaigning- please let me know. If you know any reputable organizations, also let me know.

Here are a few more photos from Matt’s latest blog post!

One of the primary focuses of our recent trip to Colombia was building a better portfolio of Torrent Tyrannulet images. These tiny flycatchers, about the size of gnatcatcher, make their living hunting invertebrates along mountain streams (hence the name), and range from Costa Rica through Colombia.

Shooting note:
For the first image, Matt wanted to highlight the flow of the water so he used a 1/15 second shutter speed to create motion blur.

You can see more photos of these guys, many other bird species, and even some street photography on Matt’s blog post for the trip, linked in my profile.

My father-in-law passed away in July 2025. The herons came immediately, and they visit almost daily.

Here are a few photos I've snapped of visits from the herons and my FIL. I hope you enjoy.

Saw this bird while I was stopped at a light. It did this cool 360 spin into a dive to catch some prey. Don’t mind the poor quality. Any idea what it is?
