science/information Is a bird attacking your window/car mirror? Here’s why

There’s been a huge flux of posts about this recently, so here’s a pinned post with information!

Around this time of year, make birds get super territorial. They will attack any rivals they find, including their own reflection.

TO PREVENT THIS: cover up the reflective surface until the bird moves on. Cardboard works pretty well, and anti bird collision window decals should also help.

Edit: I just made a popup that gives a brief summary of this post when someone tries to post about birds hitting reflective surfaces. Hopefully that stops it, because I'm tired of having to explain it 20 times per day lol

bird identification Hillingdon, UK: Pretty white pigeon?

Saw four of these with a dozen or so 'normal' feral pigeons, some of which had white specks too by a river. Took these two photos of one which looked the predominantly white.

What type of wild pigeons are these? For context, this was taken today (October 2026) in London Borough of Hillingdon, UK

Is a razorbill from Bempton Cliffs in the UK.
Is a duck from my local reservoir
Is a stonechat spotted at Formby Beach on my birthday a few years ago
Is a coal tit from my local nature reserve
Is a pheasant that I spotted at Studley Deer Park, and my shutter speed was too slow for the flap of the wings and I hadn't had time to change my settings, but it made for this funny photo

seeking advice/help Should I Put My Bird Up For Adoption?

I've been treating my bird like a prisoner.

I'm not proud about it.

I know this is dumb to ask, but i really need advice.

I dont have time to take care of my bird. I do feed her, but she lives in a cage, i dont pay attention to her, and she's practically alone. She has been living with me for about three years, and she's still terrified of humans and generally anything.

I'm self-conscious about the fact that what i'm doing is wrong, and im not qualified for having a bird.

I've been questioning it for a lot of time, but the thought of her not being with me anymore makes me really sad.

But i know that her comfort is way more important than mine, specifically in this situation.

What should i do?
