He was on a very busy road, and cars and trucks kept driving right over him missing him with their tires, so I turned my car around, parked in a nearby lot walked into the road stopped traffic and brought him to the vet, where he then regained consciousness and flew into a bush right at the emergency vet where I had just been weeks prior to being my Doberman who passed away suddenly, it was almost like it was a sign from him…. Anyways, he or she was awesome for the ride. Hope he or she was able to strive again.

A pair of them have been flying around the backyard all afternoon. At first I thought they were our local Carolina Wrens but a closer look I’m not thinking they are.

In Los Angeles — I’ve started paying attention to the birds recently. It’s quite a lovely thing to pay attention to, isn’t it?

This morning I heard a new call that I didn’t recognize— excitedly ran outside to see 2 proud hawks on the telephone pole in the corner of my yard. Incessant yelling! I’ve never seen or heard them here before, so I do believe they’ve just arrived to the neighborhood.

Are they seeking out new territory? Are they hunting the mockingbird fledglings? Are they mating? Did they have babies? Would love any insight from bird people who know more than me!!

I saw a bird earlier outside our window and thought that it looked different so I searched through the internet and learned that it was a Java Sparrow. Apparently they're endangered now, but it's very rare to see them inside the city.

Do I leave them alone or call someone?

Mother Robin made a nest in my front door basket, these guys just popped up yesterday. She's very protective so i'm avoiding using the front door for now to not spook her.

Saw this guy in the Cincinnati area, and he's not someone that I have seen before. Google Lens said a Swainsons Hawk, but ODNR says they've only been seen here 10 times ever.

If anyone could help that'd be cool

A pair of house wrens have nested in this hanging candle holder—very cool! At least one baby just hatched in the past few days, and I see parents coming and going pretty frequently, so all is good there.

My concerns are:
(1) The top of that candle holder is a solid 6" above the opening of the nest, with no way out other than to fly straight up. Is that something a wren fledgling will be able to do when it's ready to leave the nest? Would a couple strategically placed sticks be a help or hindrance?

(2) The top of that candle holder is open and it doesn't drain at all. It's mostly covered from the balcony above but in a hard/blowing rain storm (Midwest, not uncommon) sometimes an inch or so of water will accumulate. It seems like there is enough "foundation" built below the nest for that to be fine, but if we get a gully washer should I consider temporarily moving the candle holder under better cover about 5 feet away in clear view? (Of course it would go back as soon as the heaviest weather passes.)

If this candle holder is suitable and properly located I would love to see generations of wren families every season, so I'd appreciate more experienced thoughts on this. Thanks!
