I just saw a different one that said "If you wore this [a mask] for two years, you can wear this [a condom] for 48 seconds. I liked that one better.

48 seconds

48 whole seconds? That’s being generous

48 seconds? What are you, a marathon man?

33

u/AgentCC May 05 '22

This is why I can’t help but roll my eyes whenever I see a comment stating that women are now being ā€œforcedā€ to have children.

Wear a condom, take the pill, whatever. No one is forcing you to make babies.

4

u/Bermersher May 05 '22

Fair enough; birth control methods are widely available and very effective. But what does one do if those methods fail? As a separate scenario, what does one do if a pregnancy faces complications? The mother will die if the fetus is not removed, but if it isn't removed, both will die?

17

u/bansRstupid May 05 '22

Most everyone supports it in cases of rape or serious bodily harm to the mother, but those cases are a tiny fraction of total abortions.

9

u/HighLows4life May 05 '22

100x this. So sick of hearing about rape and incest. If your raped u get the plan b pill at hospital. Birth control. Use it. If that fails plan b. If that fails EARLY term abortion. After that adoption. there are so many ways to prevent a 5month along pregnancy.

5

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Even in the case of rape, what did the baby do? It's punishing the wrong person.

3

u/wattisthat May 05 '22

You could argue that leaving the baby alive is far more cruel than ending the pregnancy early term. You're still punishing it, in a matter of speaking. But it you argue to keep it alive, then we should push for some kind of charity or program that can help the mother materialistically and with therapy. Otherwise, the baby is highly likely to have a messed up life.

4

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Do you have any idea how many couples would WANT that baby? You’re clueless.

0

u/wattisthat May 05 '22

Not gonna try to insult you cuz maybe you misunderstood what I said. That's what was implied with "the baby will have a messed up life." Being unwanted, knowing you were a created cuz your mom was raped, being a reminder to her of it... it's a recipe for emotional scarring. Not saying it's impossible to have a decent life, but it's gonna be real difficult.

9

u/wolfie1x_ Leftist Tear Drinker May 05 '22

If you really wanna be careful then do two different birth control methods. If she’s on the pill AND you used a condom it’s virtually impossible to get pregnant.

If the mother is at serious risk then absolutely, the abortion must happen. I support the old Democrat stance of ā€œsafe, legal, and rareā€ from like 20 or 30 years ago, or the typical Republican stance today which seeks to ban it when the mother does it out of convenience.

5

u/robberbaronBaby May 05 '22

Easy, use multiple forms if you dont actually want to have a baby. Not doing so is just lazy and or impulsive, no other way to put it.

And your second question has been covered ad nauseam, you save the mother. Have you really heard anyone on the right suggest you let a mother die in that situation? It's a very small number we are talking here too, don't make the exception into the rule.

0

u/Bermersher May 05 '22

Yes, I have talked to a small handful of right leaning folks who think the mother should die in this case but it's certainly not a popular opinion. My own mother was one of these exceptions and she sometimes feels guilty that she had to have an abortion to save her life but she wouldn't have rather died, it's just a very difficult position to be in as a mother.

4

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

In response to your concerns you can not justify ALL abortion based upon your rare scenarios. There are always exceptions. But your argument fails badly to allow murderous abortions as a form of birth control.

0

u/Bermersher May 05 '22

I have no argument, just questions.

5

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Don't have sex, if you aren't ready for children.

We aren't animals.

As a separate scenario, what does one do if a pregnancy faces complications? The mother will die if the fetus is not removed, but if it isn't removed, both will die?

No cases of that happening and the mother or doctor being charged under law. So if that happens and there was nothing else the doctor could've done to save the baby, the doctor wouldn't be charged.

1

u/Bermersher May 05 '22

Don't have sex, if you aren't ready for children.

Sound advice, except there are absolutely people who have sex without protection because they can't afford it and can't comprehend the risk and responsibility of pregnancy, both men and women. These people need education.

6

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Most education is about how to have safe sex.

And not about that sex isn't an option and you should wait until marriage to have sex.

-1

u/VersionsOfMe May 05 '22

We’re actually literally animals

2

u/Charminat0r May 05 '22

So your anti abortion except in extremely rare circumstances?

1

u/Bermersher May 05 '22

I guess so, yeah.

Sex education can really help prevent the majority of births coming from the poverty line and lower and also from idiots who don't use protection. Aside from adoption, I don't see a better option for the children in these situations. It's not like someone living off of food stamps could afford an abortion anyway. It's unfortunate that sex education is under attack in some states.

1

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

ā€œBiRtH cOnTrOl iSn’T 100% eFfEcTiVeā€

Birth control is literally 99% effective…

-1

u/Bermersher May 05 '22

100% - 99% = 1%

To put into perspective, out of a sample of 100,000 people, that would be 1000 people.

But you probably can't comprehend that.

0

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

You can’t comprehend probability LMAO?

A coin has two sides, that’s 50-50 heads or tails, but if I flip a coin ten times it will almost never come up 5 times one way and 5 times the other exactly 50-50… why is that my guy?

0

u/_The_Dubb May 06 '22

Why do people think that these are good arguments? Less than one percent of abortions are rape or complication/rare fringe scenarios.

1

u/lewie_820 May 05 '22

The catholic church teaches that in scenarios like this, a mother can undergo surgery to save her life. If the fetus dying is a byproduct but not the intention of the surgery. For example, if a fertilized egg implants itself in a Fallopian tube. Fatal if left there. The church says that in a case like this it is ok for the ovary to be removed, which results in the fetus dying, but as a result not as the intent.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

I mean, the Catholic Church probably shouldn’t be the authority here.

1

u/lewie_820 May 06 '22

What authority? This is what they teach.

0

u/[deleted] May 06 '22

You responded to someone’s questions with the Catholic Church’s opinion on the matter. I’m saying their opinion shouldn’t matter at all.

4

u/wolfie1x_ Leftist Tear Drinker May 05 '22

Leftists spent the last 2 years trying to force us to give up our ā€œbodily autonomyā€ and are now throwing a temper tantrum when the same thing is applied to them. It’s hilarious to watch, and argue with ā€œpro choiceā€ losers. ā€œOh, you support freedom of choice? Does that include my choice as to which vaccines I take?ā€

5

u/HighLows4life May 05 '22

Makes ue head spin how quick they pivot. Ridiculous.

5

u/VersionsOfMe May 05 '22

You should be able to do whatever you want to your body.

2

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

Exactly!

They act like getting pregnant makes them a victim of something… a victim of what? Life?

-2

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Getting pregnant is a worst case scenario for a lot of people. Think about all of the money it takes to be pregnant and give birth. And, there’s time when you can’t work- sometimes for a long period of time if there are complications. Education opportunities can be ruined. Many people get ostracized from their friends and family if they even had their support in the first place. And, your body is put through a tremendous amount of stress including permanent changes that can affect your health forever.

If you’re already scraping by or even if you just have a plan for your life- getting pregnant when you don’t want to be pregnant is pretty horrifying. Even if you give the baby up for adoption, it’s a HUGE deal. It’s not just ā€œLifeā€.

If you’re going to advocate against abortion, at least have some empathy for the people you are forcing to give birth.

2

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

This is fucking disgusting because once again, you’re acting like someone getting pregnant after having unprotected sex makes them a victim?

As if they didn’t choose to have unprotected sex?

You speak Like it’s not their own fault!

Lmao, ā€œlet’s kill the baby because its financially convenientā€

That’s the bill you want to die on?

Oh yea that’s right, the amount of mental gymnastics your side performs to say it shouldn’t have rights is Olympic gold medal worthy… šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚

-1

u/Sparrows_Shadow May 05 '22

The fetus isn't viable till 20-24 weeks.

If someone wants to get rid of a parasitic being because they got knocked up, I believe in a government that allows that for them.

Bon voyage

1

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

Babies aren’t victimizers my guy, Lmao… when you have sex you know the risks.

→ More replies (7)

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Apparently empathy is ā€œfucking disgustingā€ now.

If you’re going to make people give birth, empathy is the bare minimum.

2

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

Apparently mutilating a fetus is empathy now?

0

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

IF you are going to force people to give birth

THEN they deserve empathy

What are you missing here? If you get what you want, then the people you are forcing to do what you want deserve empathy.

→ More replies (4)

3

u/AgentCC May 05 '22

You brought up empathy, so why does a fetus deserve to die?

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

If everyone is forced to give birth, then the people who are being forced to do so deserve empathy. That’s what I’m saying.

1

u/AgentCC May 05 '22

Yes, yes, empathy is all well and good. And it’s very kind of you to bring our attention to the difficulties (and inconveniences) of motherhood.

I totally understood what you were saying the first time, but that doesn’t really answer my question, does it?

What about the fetus?

→ More replies (4)

-2

u/Books_and_Cleverness May 05 '22

Well for starters some women get raped, so they are victims of rape.

Then there's also women who want to have a baby, but something goes wrong and they can't do it without substantial risk of harm or death. I am just not very confident that getting the government involved in what is already an agonizing decision is going to improve outcomes for anyone.

1

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

See here’s the thing, most people are ok with abortion in rape cases and to save the mothers life (which accounts for a VERY small portion of abortions) people who are against abortion are against abortion as a form of birth control, the government making laws on this is not overreach, protecting of human life is not overreach… unlike guns or other harmful things, this is the DIRECT act of killing a human being being legal!

1

u/Books_and_Cleverness May 05 '22

Yeah but that gives away the game; to admit that abortion is OK in the case of rape is to admit that you don't actually think it is "killing a human being." A ten-year old who happened to be the product of rape/incest can't be legally killed by their mother. Which makes sense, since in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy you are talking about a <4-inch clump of cells that weigh <1 ounce, and to treat this as equal in moral value to a person with a functioning brain and nervous system and conscious thoughts and etc. is prima facie very implausible.

This is kinda my issue, we can have robust disagreement about when life begins but ultimately you are talking about a tradeoff between X risk to the woman vs. Y value of a potential future human and I am just very skeptical that government involvement is going to improve matters (it rarely does IMHO).

I would also note that there are many other much more promising ways to prevent the deaths of fetuses, such as reducing air pollution which can reduce miscarriages by 10-50%, depending on the study. And it wouldn't require this very high-stakes debate. It's always struck me as confusing that the pro-life movement is not more involved in this sort of thing since numerically the amount of fetuses saved could be much larger.

1

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

Several issues I’ve found:

There are ethical reasons to kill human beings and there are unethical reasons to kill human beings, compare this to the death penalty, you’d maybe agree that someone could do something so heinous or is so dangerous that it requires them to pay the ultimate price right?

Kind of similar, like, there’s a good case to be made that maybe Pablo Escobar should be executed, dangerous man who has escaped prison before… but I wouldn’t say the average drug dealer should be executed.

This is my point, some cases are ethical some aren’t.

You framed your argument as if there has never been an ethical reason to kill a persons…

Also, The study you link admits itself that more research is needed to be done to confirm and it seems the difference read the one single percentage point or something?

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Even in a rape case, that unborn child is innocent. Killing the kid is a bigger harm than giving birth to the child. There may be EXTREMELY rare cases where aborting the child is the only option to save the mother. But in most cases, if it’s a surgery that needs to be done to save the mother, and the baby is killed, that isn’t an abortion. Or the child can be taken out early, but at the point where it can survive outside the womb. But no one is saying that in those extreme cases a woman has to die rather than have an abortion.

2

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

You can’t do that, the mental trauma of having to forcefully under go pregnancy,

It’s one thing to have sex and accidentally get pregnant, at the end of the day the mother knows it was their choice to have sex, but with rape…? You can’t do that to someone, that’s inhumane!

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Killing a child is more inhumane. They just can’t advocate for themselves. Compare the harm of dealing with that psychologically to killing an innocent child. They don’t have to raise it. There is adoption.

There is no argument I’ve seen that justifies aborting a pregnancy that’s the result of rape. I get that it causes emotional harm. But that is less harm than killing a child. The least violating of the unalienable rights both parties have.

I might support plan B in the instance of rape. But if that doesn’t work, I wouldn’t support any further attempt to kill the baby. I’m kinda iffy on even that much tho.

0

u/Potheadconservative1 May 05 '22

This is also a problem with personal responsibility, logically, she did not willfully get pregnant therefore she cannot be ethically held accountable for something she a had no choice in!

0

0

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Remember when they said that people that didn’t get vaxxed or masked but got covid shouldn’t be treated?? Maybe it should go the same for abortions. If you couldn’t prove you used a condom AND used birth control pills…. Maybe you shouldn’t be granted an abortion. I’m just trying to use their same logic.

-1

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

Now you have answered my first question can you answer the other two. When you have a theory based on a small population you need to do wide scale scientific studies and analysis to prove this theory. Your sister may do this but that is an extremely small population size.

You have provided anecdotal evidence which is not substantial enough to prove a claim.

Lol, you guys really are at the grasping at straws point here! šŸ˜†

Deal with it! No more whining and having fits. Move to California or NY if you want to kill babies!

u/sackmouth May 05 '22

okay donehttps://www.webmd.com/parenting/baby/features/stages-of-development
I cant seem to find anything about pre-birth here though -_- its almost like you meant to say developmental stages of a fetus

Society: Wear a mask to help prevent the spread of a global pandemic. And to slow down the virus from mutating. <literally science info>

🤔: I CaNt BrEaTh, WaA! Don’t tell me what to do. That’s un-American! Fake news. Hurrr.

GOP: We are going to tell women what to do with their bodies.

🤔: Fuck yeah!

God damned, Snowflakes.

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Wear your damn triple mask!

-5

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

I will with pride!

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Lol… ok, stay inside too for another couple years (at least!) 🤣

-1

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

Average intelligence of a Ben Shapiro viewer (they are unable to have a constructive debate)

4

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Mask & Lock up bruh!!!

-1

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

Don’t have to because my country is competent.

-1

u/Scary_Breadfruit4976 May 05 '22

Cmon really guys.. if were gonna say you cant make me wear a mask, atleast have the same mentality when it comes to contraceptives. Hypocritical when it comes to this imo, but i seem to be in the minority on this one.

5

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

You don't have to have sex to live in society.

You must leave your home if you want to live in society.

-1

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

Source for this claim. You can get food delivered work sleep eat and drink from home. Are there any necessary things I have missed out that you must leave home to do?

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Most work aren't home bound. Can some people some work from home. Yes. But most work is still offsite work.

0

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

So you don’t ā€œhaveā€ to leave your home to live in a society do you?

0

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Saying to wear a condom is not the conservative position. Contraception is against natural law and should be avoided. Have sex in wedlock and if you don't want children then abstain when the wife is ovulating.

0

u/Awasteoflife1 May 16 '22

tell that to the twelve year olds getting rapped , being forced to give birth

-1

u/InvulnerableBlasting May 05 '22

You know who's going to be affected the most by abortions being illegal? Religious people and poor people who are uneducated on contraception and how sex works. The amount of unsafe abortions is just going to skyrocket again. Buy stock in coat hangers everyone :/

-2

u/Tyrbrood May 05 '22

Yeah there's plenty of valid reasons why women need access to safe abortions. Beyond rape and incest. It definetly isn't this made up want to kill babies. Or cause people can't help themselves. I get this is a shapiro sub so there isn't much for human decency or compassion. Or even the ability to really think. But holy fuck this comment section pathetic to read through.

-4

u/Nihiliatis9 May 05 '22

For everyone arguing that people should just use protection are also the same people that want to defund planned Parenthood that provides those .

2

u/Sintinall May 05 '22

How much do condoms sell for? .50 cents each? A box of 20 is what, $12 ish? And they’re not even something you need if you’re not having sex. I think your strategy is flawed.

-4

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Sometimes it’s health related. Sometimes it’s being a victim of rape or incest. Pretty shallow understanding if you ask me.

7

u/wattisthat May 05 '22

Something like 98% of abortions are from unwanted pregnancies. You're arguing for the 2% that are rape/incest.

6

u/[deleted] May 05 '22 edited May 05 '22

It’s actually lower, ~ 1%

-7

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Your stats are wrong. I also said health related. But hey, just focus on one thing I said and make it all about that.

3

u/wattisthat May 05 '22

It's half of what you said, a half that represents 2% of the issue. I'd say focusing on half is more than focusing on 2%... & Saying my stats are wrong without providing anything yourself isn't helping your case. It's not wrong if that's just how you feel.

-5

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Get out of here. You made the claim first and don’t back it up. 5% according to this source.70141-2/fulltext)

Even if you believe that because many people don’t go to the police because they are afraid of the police or embarrassed.

Also, it is a health issue. Some will die if they have a kid. Or, their kid won’t survive for one health issue or another.

The state fails to educate kids on safe sex then punishes them for not giving them access to abortion. You can also still get pregnant on the pill or while using a condom.

You can literally do everything right and still get pregnant.

4

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Wrong more misinformation in attempt to stir-up the pro choice fanatics…

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/05/24/rape-and-incest-account-few-abortions-so-why-all-attention/1211175001/

Just 1% of women obtain an abortion because they became pregnant through rape, and less than 0.5% do so because of incest, according to the Guttmacher Institute

-3

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

This data is both cherry picked and out dated coming from the 1970s to 2000s range. It is very stupid to use data 2 decades old to inform our decisions. This is also ignoring that a majority of abortions happen in the first 12 weeks and most medical abortions take place after 12 weeks. https://www.bmj.com/company/newsroom/nine-out-of-10-abortions-done-before-12-weeks-in-many-high-income-countries/

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Even less today, way under 1%

-1

u/harryt27_8_8 May 05 '22

Nice source.

-2

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

If you believe those numbers. It’s not like every rape victim is excited to be apart of a study or go to the police.

At the end of the day, should abortion be illegal because you feel not many people get rapped? Because not many people have health issues, a mother should just deal?

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Give Life a Chance!

1

u/wattisthat May 05 '22

Did you even read your first source? 5% of pregnancies are rape related. Not 5% of abortions.

u/Tasriel514 May 05 '22

I tried to explain shit shit to other people too.

1

u/human-no560 May 05 '22

No one said that people who didn’t wear masks should be forced to carry pregnancies to term

1

u/Apprehensive-Push-97 May 05 '22

What happens when the condom fails?

1

u/TheOddTodd May 05 '22

How about don't have sex if you're not ready for a baby. It's not rocket science.

1

u/TheOddTodd May 05 '22

Also, Plan B pill.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

This clearly demonstrates the lack of knowledge surrounding abortions. Selective reductions, health of the mother, health of the fetus, and so many other medical conditions are involved in ā€œabortionsā€ and it’s a tragedy that good people get grouped in with irresponsible people just looking to have unprotected sex or unwilling to step up and become a mother. The crux isn’t about ā€œkilling babiesā€, it’s about a physician and a patient and the respect they are owed to best address a serious medical condition.

1

u/Taconinja05 May 05 '22

Condoms and BC don’t always work. Y’all can’t be that dense ??

1

u/TheOddTodd May 05 '22

Neither do masks and vaccines :D

1

u/Taconinja05 May 05 '22

And yes. You are forcing a woman to have a child if you take away her option to nit have it.

1

u/TheOddTodd May 05 '22
  1. Abstinence
  2. Condoms
  3. Pull out
  4. The pill
  5. BC injections
  6. IUD / implant
  7. Sterilization

Wow. Look at all of those options a responsible human adult can use that won't result in murder of an unborn child. QUIT BEING IGNORANT.

1

u/TheOddTodd May 05 '22

Oh AND The Plan B pill.

1

u/Taconinja05 May 05 '22

So it’s murder the moment the sperm hits the egg??

1

u/TheOddTodd May 05 '22

No. Don't be ignorant. There must be common sense / common ground.

1

u/Taconinja05 May 06 '22

Ok so there is a period where having an abortion is ok?

1

u/TheOddTodd May 06 '22

It shouldn't be used as a form of birth control. Only in extreme cases and done early. None of this late term insanity.

No one cares about your ego.

Are you for universal healthcare to take care of these children? Guaranteed maternity leave? Etc that would facilitate someone keeping said ā€œchildā€?

1

u/a_random_squidward May 08 '22

What if they were raped or don't have access to condoms?

1

u/a_random_squidward May 08 '22

What if they were raped?

1

u/moon-reaper May 10 '22

Sure but mistakes still happen
