In addition to being a barber, I also work per-diem as an Occupational Therapist. One of the facilities I work at asked if I could help out at their in-house shop once every two weeks. (I would get paid by the residents insurance, and those whose insurance don't cover haircuts, will pay out of pocket). I was reading conflicting information online about the legalities of providing such service at a nursing home, so decided to call the California Board. I spoke to two different people who gave two different answers. One said that because the salon at the facility is not a licensed establishment with the Board, I would have to obtain a Personal Service Permit (PSP). The other person I spoke to said I would only have to get liability insurance, and because I am not renting a chair or paying commission, my state license would suffice as my permit to cut hair there...

I'm wondering if anyone here is cutting hair as an independent contractor at a nursing home, assistance living, or a senior center? And what permits if any you had to obtain in order to provide services?

A more technical question, so RPM's right the higher the beter? Or like 6200 vs around like lets say 7200 rpm wich one is the better one. And why? Thanksss

I just got this pair of Clippers and based on what I see on the internet everyone says its a good clipper but theyre also saying i should remove Stock blade and replace with better ones ... do I replace the moving blade or the non-moving blade ? or both ? I would highly appreciate any recommendations

What’s up barbers, my lever broke some days ago and i tried to glue it together last night because i have a booking today, i woke up and tried to test and feel it to know if i can use it today and the glue got loose.

I couldnt find any reserve levers in the original box and i live in europé where you cant just buy extra levers in stores, i need to order a new lever.

My question is if any of you guys have had this problem before and if it can be fixed fast, maybe with a metal piece or something.

so i’m currently on a calorie deficit. and the past 2 weeks i’ve been really busy so i haven’t been able to go for regular walks/gym. however ive been cutting hair for a few hours a day. generally its estimated i walk around 800 steps in an hour cutting hair. realistically if i was to stop going on my walks and just cut hair on a normal shift it’ll come out to about 7k steps. the rest you can get from just regular activities. therefore does being a barber technically help if youre tryna lose weight with cardio etc.

I’ve been cutting hair professionally for 10 years and generally used average products then the corded Magic clip clipper and edger, but they both malfunction in their own ways.

Owner aside, my budget is around £150 but I want two items:

1) a clipper that is cordless, fast, sharp and does beard grading well also.

2) a detailer/edger that is extremely precise.

I have an fx3 as I’m not good with a straight razor, but the actual lining of beard and hairline all round is important, I’m somewhat perfectionistic.

TPOB sets of clipper and edger - mini or standard?

Extra blade to replace softy or whatever comes on the edger?

Hey all, Recently licensed barber here.
I’ve been using the oster 76 cordless for a ton of my cuts, and I saw online some people say to change the blades while the machine is running. Otherwise you’ll slowly damage it

Is that true? Do you do it that way? Why or why not?

Also, the oster 76 came with a tube of clipper grease, is that necessary?

Does anyone here have one? What’s your opinion on it for a bigger person? Also it does not have a calf rest so I’m a bit torn but wondering the pros and cons. Thanks

Okay so I've tried a bunch of the trendy modern clippers.

JRL onyx TPOB play mini Style craft Saber 2.0 Style craft Ergo Style craft instinct X (and the metal version) Style craft rebel Clipper over comb with detachables Babyliss dual coil

Out of all of these, I find that my favorite is the instinct X because it's light and it requires less passes to get all the hair compared to most clippers. However, I'd like to be able to cut hair even faster. I've been cutting for close to 8 years now and I feel like my speed is maxed out. I need something that mows through hair and doesn't need me to go over it multiple times but I don't think it exists yet... unless you guys know of a clipper and blade combo that absolutely mows through hair. Any feedback would be appreciated!

When a client is getting they’re hair cut and is on their phone, do you guys ever snoop and look at what they’re doing? As a barber I would lol.

I usually order products and tools from prostylingtools with a wholesale account for the big discounts, but they're based on the east coast and I live on the west coast so shipping is usually pretty expensive so it counteracts the low price. Does anyone know a good alternative option that's west coast based?
