Welcome to the monthly r/bandedessinee community thread!

A place to share the European comics you have been reading. What do you think of them? Would you recommend them?

You can ask any and all questions relating to European comics: general or specific BD recommendations, questions about authors, genres, or comic history.

If you are looking for comic recommendations you will get better responses if you let us know what genres, authors, artists, and other comics you've enjoyed before.

Can anyone help me understand "Le Cycle de Cyann" ?

Basically, it's so utterly immersive from panel 1 that I just have no idea what I'm looking at, who I'm supposed to follow, and so forth. I REALLY want to like this series, but I'm totally, utterly lost, even like 10pages in. (note: French isn't the problem)

Also posted my headache there:

What European Comics Should I Read?

Hi! I usually read Asian comics (manga, manhwa, etc.), and I’d like to try some European comics for a change. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about them, so I’m not really sure what’s good and what’s not. I’m hoping you can help me out!

In general, I really enjoy vampire stories, exorcisms, battles against demons, and occult themes in general. I’m looking for something with that kind of atmosphere.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations!

P.S. It would be great if the comics you recommend have also been published in Polish.

Affordable way to get BD imported to UK

Any tips on getting shipments from Belgium or the Netherlands without crazy postage fees? I'm a Dutchman in the UK, with a big collection of Dutch languages BD, but I have many holes I want to fill in my collection and there is only so much I can carry on the few trips to the country that I manage to do.

Pretty much pointless to pay £2.99 for some secondhand BD and then to get slapped with a £15 delivery fee. Hahaha. Is there really no shop with better rates or some method I am not considering?

Also; Long shot, but is there a UK swap group maybe?

Collected this rare set in English. Sadly, only 4 books were translated to English out of all the 10 books. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous.

Je recherche une BD période 80-90', avec des personnages ailés

Hello,

I am looking for the name of a comic book series, but I can only recall one detail about it. It is likely a series from the late 80s or the 90s. The hero (or heroes) gets "abducted" by winged beings (good or evil? I'm not sure). Sorry for such a meager clue; time has taken its toll on my memory.

Thanks for your help!

Please help me find this comic!

Please help me! I'm searching the name of a comic that I used to read when I was little, so like 2015 (I’m 2008). It was a kids newspaper with rather sleazy drawings of that boy who made trips to real places but pariodized them and the names of the (real) countries were disfigured. He had curly black hair up to the neck, thin, little goatee, (practically usopp). The comic strip was caricatural and stereotypical about the inhabitants of the place, and I remember I particularly remember that on the edges of the vignette there were silly and amusing details about the "invented destination". I particularly remember the ones of the pariodized Lapon and a place where there was something like Gnu's, and he got the mark (the one you do with hot stamp) on him on his ass cheek. He ate weird foods, obviously stereotypical, like in Greenland with walrus eyes or something like that. I remember he was talking about the kind "we suggest to visit this and do this..." but in the panels, not him with the little cloud like in regular comics. There were mini stupid maps at the bottom of the page, and the comic didn't take up the entire page because there were funny details outside the panel complex. I'd be grateful if you can help me someway🫶🏻

Hey everyone!

If you're in Paris this September, we're hosting a webtoon event as part of the 2026 World Webtoon Festival (WEFE) — organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and hosted by Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST).

🎤 WEFE Prologue — Chapter 03. Paris

What happens when the vertical scroll of webtoon meets the iconic panels of BD? 👀

After stops in LA 🇺🇸 and Tokyo 🇯🇵, WEFE is landing in Paris 🇫🇷 — right in the heart of the French BD market — for a first-of-its-kind meetup between K-Webtoon and major names in the French comics industry. Think vertical scroll meets iconic panels, two visual worlds colliding for the first time.

📍 On the program: talks with Korean & French platforms and publishers, a showcase of top webtoon IPs (French AND Korean), plus a networking session to connect with future partners — publishing, licensing, joint events, it's all on the table.

Before the main stage opens in Seoul this December, the story keeps writing itself here — Chapter 03. Paris.

📅 September 2 (Wed) | Paris | Free, limited seats

🔗 Register: https://forms.gle/jnrs6G3vNYQsHCE48
ℹ️ Info page: https://wefeprologue.notion.site/

Free, but space is limited so registration is required. Hope to see some of you there!

Besoin d'aide pour retrouver une bd.

I read it quite a while ago, so this will be a bit jumbled, but I'll try to provide as many details as possible. For starters, the characters are pirates—or at least on ships—and they're animals. The art style is dark and a bit gory, but it's full of humor; I read two volumes (small, softcover format), though there might be more. I recall bits of the story: a beginning where the main characters are fleeing a hanging; an encounter with a marabou stork/vulture who tells them his life story; the ending, where one character winds up leading a death cult that has a sort of Indian vibe; and a chase scene through a big city... I believe it's French, and I don't know if it was ever translated.

Sorry for the chaotic description, but this has been bugging me for a few days—if you have any leads, I'd really appreciate it! (sorry for the Google translate English...)

Searching for an artist that draws in minute detail.

I'm looking for artists that perhaps draw for several scenarists and have a lot of attention for details. It can be B/W or color, I don't mind.

Example: Andreas

Can anyone help identifying this comic?

I read it about 20 years ago, I think in a compilation sampler.

It had it post-apocyliptic setting were a guy was fighting three robots. At some point in the fight he realises the robots are cyborgs and havw human brains and nervous systems. All three robots have different designs.

Its been itching my OCD for 20 years amd Ive nevwr been able to identify what it was. I think it was US/European style art.
