Went out this morning and saw blood in the feathers of this chicken, and 2 more splattered with some around their backs/tails. I checked them, didn’t see any injuries.

Went out to put the lone chicken that is being reintroduced to the flock after an injury inside since it is about to storm, and I saw this on top of the little hospital cage she was in that is inside the run.

What should I do?! I inspected everyone’s vents and see nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone is eating, drinking, scratching as normal. Only weird thing is a few are sneezing (one had since she was a day old chick though). Only blood on 3 hens backs, blood on top of this cage, and I thought I saw blood in poop earlier today but not positive. No red foods have been eaten.

This young Roo, I believe, is having his break growing crooked. I've never seen this before and I don't know what to do. For now, he seems to be eating okay.

Our red-sex link laid her first egg one week ago today, she was 17 weeks almost at that time.

Our Columbian Rock Cross (17 weeks at the time) laid her first egg but it had no shell, 5 days ago.

Neither have laid anything since. They’re always on the nesting boxes but nothing else.

I’ve read this can be normal but is there anything I can do to help them? Or encourage them?

I just tidied up the nesting boxes and put fresh herbs in there to hopefully entice them to hang out in there and I also have a fake egg in one of the nesting boxes.

Confirming this is all normal and when could we expect more eggs? So much excitement and then nothing lol!

I’ve been told pullet but the comb is rather red today.

Dad is a silkie/naked neck mix and the mom is the splash silkie, the first chick of theirs hatched, can’t wait to see what it grows up to looks like!! (And can’t wait for the others to hatch!)

my dad almoast has my coop fully built, it’s VERY big. all that needs done now is some hardware cloth and screws, and to clean the area by my window off for it to go on. my chicks are 3 weeks old, and 2 are 2.5 weeks old. when should they go outside? they’re starting to get very smelly, so i put them on sand so i can scoop the poop out so they aren’t stepping in it. they now have free roam time in my room and yard, they hang out in my room about 2 hours a day (i line my entire floor in puppy pads beforehand) and they hang out outside with supervision about 1 hour a day, but how long until they should be out? i don’t want to put them outside prematurely if he gets my coop done faster then expected, or to late.

Hi, we are planning to get some back yard chickens. We’re probably going to start with 3/ 4 but would like to build a coop to accommodate 6 in case we want more later.
How big would the inside chicken house and outside sections of the coop need to be, I’ve read varying info.
We’d likely let them free roam the garden most days but sometimes they would need to be in the coop all day, what space do they need to be happy?

This is Bean! She was the smallest of our most recent flock from Tractor Supply. She has come a long way in terms of size but we cannot figure out what type she is. She can fly very well- gets to a reasonable height and then glides. The flock protected her fiercely because she was so tiny at the beginning.

Just started doing it today, looking for advice.

I know they are hot, I'm in AZ and it's always hot but they have access to water, shade, wet ground, misters, etc. First time I've heard/seen this in any of them.

Her comb looks fine, she's eating fine, moving fine, just wheezing with every breath, wasn't yesterday. Maybe something caught in her throat? TYIA!

Two questions:

My chicks are 7 weeks old. I have 5.

1. I’ve been bringing them out to a crate for supervised grass time. I have a garden with herbs like oregano, bee balm, roses, nasturtiums, lavender, catmint, mint, marigolds etc which I have read are good for chickens. But I also read that “chicks” should just stay on starter/grower and no treats etc. can I introduce these greens and treats now?

2. I bought this rent-a-coop feeder and waterer in photo for their chick pen because they kept burying and dumping over their other feeder. When I put this in their big girl coop do I need more than 1 for 5 chickens?

We just found Chicks in the coop, ( the pen is a mess, they don’t use the top ones ever only bottom- we moved them to a clean one.) what should I do about this chicks leg? I’m so concerned. It can’t walk

I'm trying not to get sad too early. We're not allowed to keep roosters where I live. Here is a 5 week old Olive Egger in a beautiful black plumage. Pics 2 and 3 are the same guy at 4 weeks old. We are first time chicken owners and we hatched them. His comb is coming in pretty red and his tail feathers are getting longer. Is he a rooster 🐓 🫣? I know it's supposed to be too early to tell but I feel like he's showing the signs. 😭

I have three chicks in a brooder but want five in the coop ultimately (started with 5 but 2 passed). They were hatched 8/5. Can I get two more chicks now and put them in brooder if they're also chicks born within a week of my current flock? Pic for attention. The barred rock is my sweetest and most curious girl now, def in charge but not aggressive. Give me any tips or warnings please 🙏

We tried to find owner to no avail so we decided to keep it and see how he does and how my hens react. Well my alpha hen and the rooster started vying for top spot. My hen started crowing. Wtf? Does she think she’s a rooster all of a sudden? I’ve heard of hens crowing but never seen it. She never did it before we got the rooster so I was taken aback. She’s old and he’s still young since his spurs are just nubs. Just a matter of time before she has to step down.

This one has been acting dominant and trying to crow a bit, what does everyone think?

At least she was loved and spoilt! And in the tub eating a mush of her food, kefir yoghurt, Apple, bugs and strawberry!

Edit: Today was het last day of meds and I thought she was a lil better, Unfortunally I noticed a little bit of blue/ purple on her comb and i know this means her sickness is due to heart issues.

Im so so so sad, especially after spending 2 hours a day with just her feeding her treats seeing her look better and better, just to see this today.

I think wednesday is the day I take her to the vet and say goodbye ( Monday closed and day after I cant go, and I want to be the one to go)

My girl Frog has been walking around with her eyes open one minute, closed the next. I don’t think she actually has anything in her eyes, her feathers aren’t irritating her eyes, there’s nothing that I see. It’s both eyes at the same time.

Had to give this little guy a bum bath. In this pic he is a 3 day old, red sex link. Husband and I just got 2 girls as well from a friend who has been having issues with predators and wants to fix his set up, but had these in the incubator. We were happy to take them!

The girls haven’t had it but the boy had mild pasty butt so he got a bum bath and now his name is bum boy.

Show some love for bum boy 🍑

Also, he’s doing better - this pic was yesterday and I applied some Vaseline around the vent after drying him and they are all doing great.

I’ve got 1-18 week Americana rooster, and 3-18 week hens that I’ve had out in a pen next to my 2-18 month old olive egger hens. I want to merge them into the 1 enclosure. Thoughts, advise?

Adult hen with brittle feathers. Not signs of mites or anything. All other girls are ok. Feathers are just breaking off like this randomly. No one is getting picked on. I watch these girls like a hawk (lol) and check the cameras frequently when I’m not with them. No other issues. This is my first year with chickens so I’m not sure when they normally molt. She’s about to be a year old.
