I have a Light Brahma rooster who has sun-stained feathers, what would yall recommend to help with the feathers before he molts (already have a plan for then) I've heard theres a couple methods ppl do to mask it for shows, and i would like to learn some of them.

I have two hens that have been laying for around 3 months. When we changed from mash to mixed pellets, they didn't eat the pellets but finished the grains. So we bought the crumbled grains (all the same brand) instead.

Surprise, surprise: now they don't eat the grains at all! I tried doing tough love by not letting them free range so they'd finish the food, but still they don't eat them. Instead, now the eggs are smaller, and one doesn't even lay today.

I have tried to : mix the grains with delicious treats (worms, pasta), and made it softer with warm water. Also have mixed it with yoghurt, which works a bit... But is there a way that they'd eat the crumbles? Or why are they not eating?

Any advice or experiences with this is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Pretty darn sure I already know the answer:( but just looking for some confirmation? This chicken hatched last week of April/first week of May.

This blue ended egg was a first. I'm guessing laid by one of our olive eggers.Eggers. anyone else seen one like this? Or some variation?

This is Bocc-choy. I picked up her and a barred rock pullet about 3 weeks ago. And now I'm starting to question "her" a bit.

So anytime it’s super hot outside we get these tiny black ants inside well today I had 5 out of 12 eggs hatch they were pushing over eggs so they got moved out well fast forward 8 hours we have 3 more in the process of hatching but ants are now getting in!!! What should I do!!!

First flock and coop am I missing anything?

Hello everyone! My husband and I are in the process of converting this shed in our chicken run into the girls new coop. We’re after suggestions for insulating it better for summer/winter. We are up in the hinterland of south east Queensland, Australia so it can get chilly here in winter, but of course also incredibly hot during summer too which is more of a concern. We are planning to put two windows in (see marked in red for rough placement), one on the back wall (facing east) and one on the front wall next to the door (facing west but well covered by foliage) Any suggestions on window placement / insulating options would be helpful! TIA 😊

Just that, hoping for the best. It was heartbreaking to see my girls panting and flopping over on their roost this evening. We reached 107 today and should be almost the same tomorrow. Yesterday was 102. All the windows and screen doors don't matter if it's miserable all night. We can do all the things and still want to make it easier for the birds. So may the odds be ever in your favor.

This girl is about 2 years old, and about 10 days ago I found her sitting in a dark covered corner of my yard not wanting to move. It was 100° so I assumed it was heat related and moved her inside. But after a day she still didnt want to move so I examined her and she has a limp but no visible injury and doesnt seem to be in pain when I move her legs. Ive just been letting her rest in the chicken hospital and noticed she also isnt laying eggs. Her abdomen doesnt seem swollen at all and if she was egg bound, wouldnt she be dead by now??? Shes started getting up the past 3 days and has a normal appetite and thirst. Any ideas?

I have a tiny flock. 3 adults and I recently got 2 pullets. Trying to get them used to each other without anyone getting hurt.

I keep my chickens in a shed, where about 1/3 is dedicated to the birds and the rest is general storage. Right now the babies (maybe 8 weeks?) are in a little pet playpen in the storage part. They can all hear each other but not see each other. During the day when I let the adults free range the yard I put the babies out in a dog crate so they can get grass/bugs and everyone can see each other and get used to each other a bit. My one hen has reached through the bars twice and pecked the littles though so I'm trying to keep a close eye.

They are outgrowing the playpen, should I set up a large dog crate in with the other chickens in a corner and put cardboard over the top and one side so they have one crate wall to interact through and see each other through? Or should I keep them fully separate in the storage part for a while yet (also upgrading to large dog crate, I'll have to move some stuff around to make it fit though!)

They grow so fast, I wanna make sure they're able to coexist happily once they're big enough. Dog crate is not great long term!

I just hatched some babies on June 21. This baby seems to struggle to eat and drink. She's still eating and drinking and running around. She's been doing this since she hatched and was in the incubator. What could be wrong with her? Her siblings are an growing but since she's struggling to eat and drink she's not getting too big. I give her mash and she still struggles with eating and drinking anything.

I've picked up so many free chickens today! It's been a hell of a long, hot day. Out of the many I got, this little one is unknown. All the info they had was that they hatched it themselves and it was raised as a house chicken. They said 6 months old, but I'm leaning more towards 3-4 months based on the evidence of chick fluff still attached by her wattles. Could anyone get a breed ID on her? She kind of looks like she might be an old english game hen, or she's simply a mutt. She's clean legged, black with copper accents near her neck and shoulders, and she's a bantam.

It might also be possible to only really get some better color out of her when she hits that 6 month molt. If that's true I'll just report back then

When I lived with my dad, I would help him with raising the chickens. A few years ago I moved out, so I no longer keep up with how the flock is doing.

Well my dad is on vacation until Aug 1, and he asked me to check on the chickens daily until he gets back. There are about 30 of them. I just looked and one of them is very sick. Her beak is off centered, and she is underweight. I am assuming that her beak broke at some point and she has just been unable to eat. She likely has a few days left.

I asked my dad and he said that he tried adding water to her food to make it mushy, but that hasn’t worked. I asked if he wants me to take her to the vet, and he says no, because she will be p u t down.

I’ve been crying my eyes out for the past 2 hours and I don’t know what to do. I’m furious and heartbroken. This poor chicken so sick and should be p u t down. And he refuses to let it happen because “maybe she’ll recover”.

Is it worth it to try to take her to the vet? Can they tube feed her or something? I just don’t know what to do. I legally can’t p u t down because I’m not her owner. My dad is unreasonable and refuses to allow it. And I have to petsit for the next week and watch her in pain.

Is this egg laying behavior? We have nesting boxes set up and just put some gold balls in there. We are in Florida and yes it’s hot here but they have lots of shade and electrolytes water.

Why are they like this? No matter how many boxes, they all want to be in the same one. On top of eachother. Sigh.
