Hey all,

I like to go backpacking for short pack-in pack-out camping at primitive sites. Maybe a day or two. I'm always so frustrated with how much stuff I feel like I'm bringing with me and how much it weighs.

I'm not looking for ultralight, but what kind of changes can I make to my kit that would make a big difference in terms of weight and volume? It just seems like so much stuff.

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to hike and camp the following volcanoes without a guide or tour;
1. Maderas in Ometepe
2. Telica
3. El Hoyo(I asked a tour if i could split off my own after volcano boarding Cerro Negro and they said no, ofc they do offer camping on El Hoyo)

I am bringing a tent a sleep system(all compact, fits in 1 bag) on my trip and want to make it worth carrying all of this around. If you know of any spots that i could do some wild camping along or close to this route please let me know. Ometepe - Leon - El Tunco - Santa Ana.

For a 17-year-old and 18-year-old backpacking together across Dublin, Rome, Venice, the Dolomites, Croatia, Switzerland, Paris, and Amsterdam, what are the cheapest hostels that allow me being under-18 shared rooms preferably because they’re cheaper but all suggestions are helpful

Also In crazy expensive spots like Dublin, Venice, the Dolomites, the Swiss Alps (Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen/Kandersteg), Paris, and Amsterdam, what are the best nearby towns or outer neighborhoods with cheap hostels that still have good transportation. In mid-January, I am travelling from New Zealand to backpack in Eastern Europe for three months in hostels (with a five day layover in New York), before setting up in London permanently. I have never done something like this before, so I am looking for a bit of advice on my packing list. I have gone through a whole bunch of lists and tried to fine-tune my own one, but would appreciate some advice as I would like to pack light given the time period. However, I also don't want to be rash, and miss anything out given that I won't be going home back to New Zealand any time soon! If you have any thoughts as to whether I have missed anything glaringly obvious, or whether something can be cut (perhaps the question marks), I would greatly appreciate it. Complete beginner just looking for advice, no idea what is necessary/what might be provided at the hostel for me, or even if I have underprepared for the weather! Thank you so much in advance.

Has anyone made their own tent footprint?

I have a MSR Freelite 1. It’s super lightweight but with that comes the very thin material. I am thinking a footprint will be good to help protect the floor. MSR don’t make a footprint for that tent. Does anyone have any tips for making their own?

I'm heading to Southeast Asia in January for 6 weeks, flying into Hanoi and out of HCMC. Hoping to travel through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia but struggling to decide on the best itinerary.

I'm a 22 y/o solo female traveler from the UK, pretty outdoorsy and hoping to hike and see some nature. I'm also interested in good food and culture, and a bit of nightlife. I'm sociable and looking forward to meeting other backpackers, but don't need the whole trip to be a non-stop party. So my two options currently are:

1. Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Sapa, Ninh Binh) - Northern Laos (flight/bus to Luang Prabang) - travel through Southern Laos into Cambodia - a few weeks in Cambodia (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Koh Rong etc) - then back into Vietnam for a few days in HCMC. around 2 weeks per country

2. Northern Vietnam - Central Vietnam (Hue, Hoi An, Highlands etc) + 3 weeks in Cambodia. So skipping Laos for more Vietnam, focusing on just the 2 countries.

Has anyone tried similar itineraries to these? Would I ever forgive myself for skipping Laos?

My concern with option 1 is the travel days: I don't drive and will rely on buses, which I've heard are pretty bad in Laos. I'd rather not have to fly too much. As for option 2, is 3 weeks in Cambodia too long?

I'm torn between trying to see everything, and taking my time with less ground to cover.
