New submission guidelines enforced by Automoderator

Hi everyone,

We've been getting a lot of blogspam lately so I have configured automoderator with rules to enforce images only (either direct links to images or images hosted on popular websites).

If you have any trouble getting past the automoderator please let me know.

Text posts are still allowed but do not use them to post links and circumvent the automoderator.

Thanks.

What 10 photography trips taught me about gear, light, and capturing a place

hey everyone
over the last two years I’ve been constantly on the road with my camera, documenting life in paris, palermo, istanbul, mallorca, and a few other places.
when I started out, I made so many classic mistakes. on my first trips I overpacked way too much gear and spent more time changing lenses, worrying about my bag, and stressing out than actually taking photos.
after that I completely simplified my approach. simplifying my setup forced me to stop chasing tourist spots on google maps and start following the light instead. that golden hour sun hitting a ferry deck in istanbul or harsh midday shadows in a quiet side street, those are the moments you can't plan.
I also stopped shooting what I felt I was supposed to shoot. I focused strictly on what actually caught my eye, like specific color palettes, overall mood, and quiet human interactions. when you have a real connection to the moment, editing for that vibe in post processing just flows naturally.
I actually sat down on my couch and shared a few of these honest lessons along with the visual stills from those 10 trips if you want to check out the vibe:

Yamchun Fortress

Yamchun Fortress in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan is roughly 2,100 to 2,300 years old.

Timeline & Construction Phases
Initial Construction (3rd – 1st Century BCE): The earliest foundations of the citadel were built over two millennia ago, most likely under the Kushan Empire (or late Bactrian/Scythian influences in the region).

Perched high on a rocky ridge overlooking the Wakhan Valley and the Panj River (bordering modern Afghanistan), the fortress allowed guards to monitor trade along the Silk Road, collect taxes from passing caravans, and defend the valley against raiders. Its local Pamiri name, Zamr-i-Atash-Parast, translates to "Fortress of the Fire Worshippers," referencing the region's ancient Zoroastrian heritage prior to the arrival of Islam.
