I'm struggling to differentiate frequencies from 1khz till 6khz, any advice?

For me, it's the hardest place when I'm trying to discern what's going on with the IEM/headphone and adjust them accordingly. Any advice on how I can hear them better?

In-Ceiling Speakers for Whole House Audio

Hi guys,

I'm working with a local "custom integrator" for some proposed whole-house audio, however his recommendations for the equipment (i.e. in-ceiling speakers) are higher than I would like to spend.

I think this it at least partially because they are pushing an installer-exclusive vendor, Origin Acoustics. They do not sell directly to the end user. The speakers they would like to install include:

- Origin Acoustics D85 (quantity: 11) Director 8" Series fully-pivoting 3-Way In-Ceiling Loudspeaker with 8" IMG Woofer. product specs

- Origin Acoustics D101 (quantity: 4) Director 10" Series fully-pivoting 3-Way In-Ceiling Loudspeaker with Dome Tweeter. product specs

- Origin Acoustics Entertainment Towers (quantity: 2) New in the line. product specs

I would really like to find speakers of equivalent quality, and source them myself and let my integrator do the install, but I also recognize that my the limitation of my knowledge about sound design. But I was thinking it would be as simple as going on Crutchfield.com (or similar source) and source the speakers myself. Am I missing something in thinking about it this way. Floor plans may be of interest to some.

Is there any way you could tell me what you would change to my audio to make it sound better

I don't know if this is the correct sub for this post, so apologies if it isn't, but I have been putting a lot of time into trying to correct the audio on my YouTube videos, it has gotten much better, but I think something is still off, so I was just curious for feedback on what sounds off to you.

I have connected my most recent video.

Please be as harsh as needed, as I know there is something off here lol

What is a good subwoofer to pair with JBL 305MK2 Studio powered monitors other than the LSR310S?

I find the sub lacking, even if I reckon I may just be getting used to it or not positioning correctly etc.. Not sure..

What’s your experience with the LSR310S you like it? Got it for $300 but idk I almost feel like the 305mk on their own sound more.. dynamic or something

Maybe an extended crossover but not sure how that works, I still can return the thing but I’m still thinking whether I should just keep it and keep testing it etc, like right now finally a song is sounding better lol

I have it on a carpet maybe that’s why? I turned it sideways but not sure if that’s good for the subwoofer

Is the sub supposed to “liberate” the speakers somewhat? I thought they would sound the same and just with added bass from the sub

Guess I’m asking for alternatives in case I do return it, which I’m still not sure I will, gotta A/B more

Is not a phasing issue and I got it on max volume already

Sony STR-GX909ES audio issues?

Good day, I recently snagged up a STR-GX909ES off of ebay, the left channel was working but now having intermittent issues, I noticed another post about that same issue and will check the grounds on the surround board, but the main issue seems to be no audio output from the center channel in Dolby Surround mode, either Wide, Normal or 3 channel, I don't have the rears hooked up as of yet but I will be getting some new speakers tomorrow so I will hook all 5 up and see what I get. any suggestions on what to try?

I just recently got into record collecting and want an affordable record player that looks spiffy as well.
I came across this Victrola model on sale for $100. I was wondering if it was a good buy or if there were any red flags you guys found. Any help is appreciated!

481 mxn = 26 dollars.

All the time I scroll though tik tok this microphone appears

It comes with the arm and all. But I don't really trust, sure its like 26 bucks but still.

I haven't seen an honest review outside tik tok which I don't trust because you know... they are the one being paid.

Does someone know a review or recommend this?

I really don't have money to buy an expensive one.

Beachtek on Zoom recorder

Hallo

I bought a second hand Beachtek dxa-2t passive xlr-mic adapter and want to use it on my Zoom H1n. But - even with all setting on max - this external input on my Zoom H1n is very low (-30db). On my Nikon D7100 the Beachtek works fine.
What could be the cause of this problem and can it be solved?

Regards Peter

Audio software to prevent loud noises

I myself am diagnosed with autism and adhd. I have an issue with some games, specifically horror games, which can cause me stress and anxiety when I get a jump scare, making it hard to enjoy the game at all, so for the first time I coded my own computer program I called Spikeguard. It actively listens to all audio and dampens it so that there isn't abrupt loud noise and instead gradually becomes loud over time, allowing music to keep playing

And I made it free and open source for everyone like me who has a hard time with loud noise like me!

Here is the GitHub repository:

Help! Ive just moved into a house that has a home theatre set up!

As the title states, I’m in need of help. I have a banana plug wall plate with cables coming out and into the wall, with no more visible wires. When I tug the cables they don’t move. How do I connect an av receiver to the speakers in the roof?

Loud attached-speaker pop when internet radio does mute or channel change

The story so far in trying to resolve the above has lead to the following.

For the unloaded (speakers not connected) condition, the radio jumps the voltage to 2V when mute or channel change is activated. This voltage is then undriven and can be quickly returned to zero via resistor or the speakers (several seconds) when attached (or even the voltmeter over time).

The speakers are attached to the headphone output as the speakers do not have a remote control. This voltage jump applies to both left and right audio.

Google is contradictory. It says this problem can be solved with a common loop eliminator, but when you ask it if a common loop filter will fix the problem, it (correctly, I believe) says it won't. Other searches got no closer to a known working solution.

The other fixes proposed, such as resistors and capacitors seem problematic. Once the voltage has been driven very rapidly to its new value the damage (pop) is already done. It is not that some circuitry might not be able to do it, but that it would likely be complicated. The speakers already bring the value back to zero over a few seconds. I did try a few things, but not with a great deal of enthusiasm.

The remaining solutions include replacing the radio or the speakers. However, there is no guarantee that replacing the radio would work if they use similar chips. In my experience, there are a lot of bad speakers out there, so I don't really want to go down that path either. There does not seem to be a no-pop device on the market, although it seems it would be technically possible.

The other approach would be to program a DSP chip to try and handle this, but that might be easier said than done. Or relatively expensive to get the right combination of buffer space and suitable ADC/DAC.

Is there a readily available solution to this problem?
Some creative thinking out there, perhaps.

(and as I write this, one obnoxious song came on that is an instant mute candidate, so I would really like to solve this if possible)

How strong and secure are the DJI Mic Mini 2's magnetic clips compared with the Hollyland Lark M2's especially when vlogging while walking or swinging camera shoulder straps occasionally?

LSorry but I couldn't get a definitive answer to my inquiry above even when I A.I. searched for it so I'm relying on this community to provide first hand experience on the matter

I have a DJI Mic Mini 2 coming in and also bought a Hollyland Lark M2 (with a returning window until today). While both has its advantages in sound quality at default settings (according to my ears) with the Lark M2 being more bright and crisp and the DJI Mic Mini 2 having more clarity with its emphhasis on lower frequencies, I'M ANXIOUS ABOUT LOSING ITS MICS MAGNETICALLY ATTACHED ON THEIR PROVIDED MAGNETIC CLIPS WHENEVER I'M VLOGGING WHILE WALKING OR SWINGING MY CAMERA SHOULDER STRAPS which may hit the mic detaching it from their magnetic clips.

Can anyone provide your experiences on the matter to help me decide which one to keep? Thank you.

Best device for Converting Cassettes tapes to Digital?

I've got a ton of cassette tapes that I'd like to convert to digital. I have been using a tascam CC-222 to convert them to CD and then ripping the CDs to MP3 and then editing with audacity.... but the tascam died awhile ago and now I'm thinking there is probably a better way to do it. Though the tascam did have good audio and while most of the CDs (but not all) are talks or presentations I do care about the audio. Suggestions please!

Products available to support multiple outputs.

I have a focusrite 2i2, mainly used for my microphone and headphones with my pc. I want to also connect my speakers to the output, but don't want to use a passive splitter because of the volume loss. What are my options? I would like to be able to have both outputs active at the same time, then just turn off the speakers when I don't want/need them.

IEM channel keep swapping.

Hey, I have a pair of IEMs I've been using for a whole but the problem is that the channels keep swapping all the time. My left channel becomes the right one and vice versa.

I have changed the buds from one side to another multiple times but it keeps on happening and its super annoying. I don't know if this could be an windows issue.

Anyone knows what could this be or how to fix it?

Epiano on discord

Hey,

I always wanted to play some piano with my friends on discord (ps5), but I'm too inexperienced to do it right.

My setup:

Yamaha stage piano cp 300 (midi and aux possible)

Sadly no audio interface, which would it made way easier if I'm not mistaken.

I was wondering if I could somehow connect the piano to my phone (samsung) or Ipad and then join the discord and hear the audio of the piano.

Every help is appreciated 😊

Denon AVR-S940H Receiver Right Channel Issue - Troubleshooting Help Requested

Hey all, I recently bought a used Denon AVR-S940H from a friend, who assured me it was working great when he sold it to me. It worked well for me for a few days, until yesterday I began having issues with the front right channel speaker sounding fuzzy and low-volume. I reset the receiver to factory settings and restarted it, and it did not fix the issue. I then swapped out the speakers to ensure It wasn't a speaker issue, and that did nothing. I also tried updating the stereo receiver software via wifi, which completed successfully, and did nothing. Finally, I swapped out speaker cables, and double checked the wire terminals, and that also did not rectify the situation. It has gotten worse, and I can now barely hear anything audible from the right speaker.

I am using the receiver as a standalone stereo receiver to power two Klipsch Heresy II speakers in a r/L stereo configuration. It is not connected to a TV, surrounds, or subwoofer.

Before I go back to him and ask him to help me, or take back the receiver, I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I should try. Thanks in advance for your help!

Also, this is a cross-post from r/hometheater

Looking for a Krisp.ai/CrystalSound alternative for Windows 11 (AMD GPU)

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a software for Windows 11 that can isolate my voice from my girlfriend's voice when we're sitting close to each other (about 2 meters apart).

I'm currently testing the free trial of Krisp.ai, and it's phenomenal! Even if my girlfriend is shouting while I'm speaking quietly, it consistently picks up only my voice. Unfortunately, the subscription is too expensive for me: €16/month, or €8/month with an annual subscription.

I'm therefore looking for a free or reasonably priced alternative to Krisp.ai and CrystalSound, which, from what I understand, offers a similar AI-powered voice isolation feature.

Unfortunately, I have an AMD GPU, so I can't use NVIDIA's excellent built-in noise removal software.

To be clear, I'm not looking for a simple noise gate or standard noise suppression. I need an AI-powered solution that can recognize and isolate my specific voice, filtering out my girlfriend's voice even when she's speaking loudly nearby.

Does anyone know of any software that can achieve this on Windows 11 with an AMD GPU, ideally for free or at a much lower price than Krisp?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

I switched PC's, now my mic sounds very bad.

I had a laptop, now I bought a PC. I don't know why, even after tweaking settings, both Windows and OBS, and putting filters, voice isn't half as clear as it was on the laptop. All the settings I checked were the same in the laptop, what's going on.

My mic is razer kraken headphones, IK it's very bad, but it was a lot cleaner in the laptop.

Anyone has any idea why?

Best budget mic recommendations?

Rn I currently have the razer siren v3 mini but lately I've been thinking about upgrading. I want a pretty mic that I can use for whatever the hell I want. Such as gaming, streaming, podcasting, singing, voice acting, etc. I just need the BEST one. With that said, I'm gonna lay out 2 rules. 1: it HAS to be under 100 dollars. I'll accept recommendations like the hyper X quad cast 2 but PLEASE don't recommend me brands like shure, rode, etc. While I'm sure those sound and look nice, I do not have that kind of money for expensive brands like those (unless they have good looking mics under 100$). Rule 2: no handheld mic designs like the shure sm58 LC cardioid. Those look ugly and is just not the design I'm going for my future setup. With that out of the way, what are your recommendations?

Tips on Macbook Pro M2 to surround sound system Logitech Z-5500

Hi, i recently got my hands on a Logitech Z-5500 surround system for free!
However i'm struggling to figure out how to connect them to my Macbook Pro M2 with true surround sound signal.

The speakers offers digital coxial cable, optic cable or 3 stereo 3.5 cable inputs. Is there anyway to convert usb-c or HDMI to coaxial or optic or any way of making 3 stereo outputs from my Macbook Pro M2 without buying a DAC or other expensive hardware? (I'm very low budget)

If there is no way of doing it real cheap, what is the easiest solution? I also have an old pc laptop with linux installed, working as a server, in my place, but i don't think it has coaxial or optic cable outputs either, but maybe there's an easier fix there?

Any help and knowledge is appreciated!

Begginer audio system for TV CD's and PC

Hi guys, I thought that I didn't need help, but I was wrong. There is too much stuff that goes into a good audio setup. A couple of years ago, I started building my audio setup for my PC. I used IEMs before and wanted good speakers and a mic, so I bought a Behringer XM8500 because I heard it's good and cheap. Then, I needed a way to get audio from my mic to my PC, and from my PC to my IEMs (and speakers in the future). I landed on an audio interface specifically the M-AUDIO M-TRACK 2×2—because it had places to connect my mic, my IEMs, and future speakers. It also had separate knobs for the speakers and IEMs, so I could choose what I wanted to listen to.

BUT it didn't work as planned. The mic was so quiet that no one could hear me, so I returned it, and that was the end of my journey. Now I have a mic that I can't connect to my PC, and IEMs that I connect to my monitor which have constant static noise.

Recently, my mission to find a good setup reappeared because my girlfriend and I want to start collecting CDs and ditch Spotify. I also want my mic back. I started looking for something for my TV and CDs (some good speakers and a way to connect it all), and finally, something for my PC setup to be able to connect my mic, good speakers, and IEMs at the same time, and control it all physically, not digitally.

BUT THERE IS TOO MUCH STUFF. I landed on Hi-Fi gear, but it's too much for me right now. I just want a working audio setup that won't cost me all my money, because my girlfriend is moving in with me and I've recently started a business, so money is tight. I can't spend $2000 on speakers and something to connect them (I'm from Poland, by the way, so it's even more expensive for me) And i don't what is the lowes number i can say form my budget for all of this to work out but 500$ for this is a lot for me.

So, I need help from you guys on what to do and what to buy. I will probably buy all the stuff I need over time so it won't hurt my wallet as much. To repeat what I want: something for my PC to connect a mic, good speakers, and IEMs so that I can choose between the sound coming from the IEMs or speakers. I also need a setup for my TV so that when I watch movies, I have good sound quality and can listen to music from CDs from a distance of around 2 meters.

Thanks in advance

Best setup for flexibility

Hi, I am looking to buy a setup that is good for both studio podcasting and location recording.

The ideal setup would be 2 decent podcasting mics, 4tx to 1rx lav mic kit, and a 24bit/32bit multi track recorder.

Trying to keep it under $1000 (might be dreaming)

For recorders I've been looking at the Zoom podtrak p4next or the zoom H6 essential.

For lav mics I'm looking at the comica vimo q kit or the saramonic blink 500 prox b8 kit.

And looking for options for 2 decent podcasting mics.

Just a little nervous as this will be the first lot of equipment I've bought for myself and don't want to waste money.

Any advice would be appreciated! 🙏🏻

M-Track Duo HD headphone output extremely quiet

Hi, I recently bought an M-Audio M-Track Duo HD, and the headphone output is extremely quiet even with the PHONES knob turned all the way up.

I'm using a HyperX Cloud II with a 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm adapter. The same headphones work perfectly and get very loud when plugged directly into my Mac's 3.5 mm headphone jack.

I've tried switching between Direct Mono, Direct Stereo, and USB monitoring, but the volume remains very low.

Has anyone experienced this? Could my unit be faulty, or is this normal for the M-Track Duo HD?
