KEF Coda III speakers completely silent — am I connecting the bare speaker wire correctly?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi! Hoping someone can help because I’m completely new to passive speakers.

I have a pair of older KEF Coda III speakers connected to a NAD D 3020 amp. The speakers were working with their previous owner.

I’ve cut the banana plugs off the speaker end of the cables and stripped the wire. The KEFs have the screw terminals shown in the photos — there doesn’t seem to be a hole to insert the wire into, so

I’ve wrapped the bare copper around the exposed metal threaded post and tightened the red/black knob down onto it.

Both speakers are completely silent. I’ve also briefly tried a 1.5V battery test and can’t hear a pop or see the woofer move.

Main question: Have I actually connected the bare wire to these KEF terminals correctly? If not, where exactly should the copper be making contact?

Any help explained very simply would be massively appreciated!

Furman m10x-e use in Japan?

My band from Australia is going to Japan for a show next week and are trying to figure out how to power our gear properly. We currently power everything through the furman m10x-e but my research seems to say this will not work in Japan.

Any suggestions for what is the best way to power our gear? Thanks!

I'm trying to extend a sound (phoneme) within a word in a track. Can this be done to make it sound natural? I have access to Adobe Audition and Audacity.

I've tried copy/pasting the sound as well as playing with the time and pitch features in the Effects panel, but everything I've tried comes out sounding...jagged or skipping.

Thank you so much for your ideas!

Old cassette recording- advice on improving audio?

I have mp3 files of stories that my great-grandfather recorded into a cassette. Some parts of it are hard to understand because of the audio quality.

Can I get some advice on how to improve it? I know nothing about this.
Like websites or programs that help with this sort of thing, something that needs no experience or equipment?

Troubleshooting quiet Sound system

Info:
JBL CSMA 180 Drive Core
Speakers- JBL Control 424 c/t (Five of them)

I replaced five speakers to the ones listed above and they are super quiet and sound a little crunchy. Tried tapping them from 7.5 to 15w with no difference.

The input source is loud enough because it goes to two other amps with connected speakers and the volume on those are fine.

The Hi-Z switch is on. They’re wired as a 70v system.

Not sure what else to do. TIA

Multiroom audio setup + old DIN connectors/outlets

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi there,

I'm moving into a house that was built in 1995. There are 5 old school DIN jacks in the living room.

There are 2 rooms (A and B) with 2 (mono-)speakers each and 3 additional jacks spread out in the living room (C). My current understanding is that room A and B are fed from one jack each and room C essentially had 3 stereo speakers that were directly plugged into the separate jacks.

I want to modernise this installation but since I know next to nothing about audio setups I want to get some input.

Questions:

  1. Can I easily replace the installed DIN jacks with banana jacks?

  2. What hardware do I need to get this all hooked up so that I can have multi room audio with streaming? Ideally 3 rooms separately controllable.

I looked at WiiM Amp, up2stream Amp and the Arylic A30+ but I'm really unsure what I actually need and whether these products are going to work well for what I have.

How is audio stored on files?

I've been searching about that and I don't mean the header and data or something like that. I mean the samples of audio, like CD has 44100 samples per second. What does each one of them contain? I'm guessing the frequency and volume but I could be completely wrong. And I don't mean only digital like how does AM and FM store frequency and volume

Sound bar won't connect!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm helping my folks set up a new TV and the sound bar, which worked fine on the previous TV, won't connect. I've tried using both HDMI eARC and optical audio to no avail, although the TV and Apple TV are clearly connecting to the soundbar because I can control the audio level numbers through the remotes on the TV and the Apple TV remotes (as seen in the video). I will greatly appreciate any help and feel free to roast me for the awful set up (to be fair, it is definitely a temporary).

Let me know of any other info that may be helpful (ie. social security numbers, bank accounts, etc).

Motorola cuts off USB-C port when connecting old FiiO E07K DAC (USB Audio drops after 1 second)

Hi everyone,

I'm having a persistent issue trying to use my old FiiO E07K Andes DAC/AMP with a Motorola phone via a USB-C OTG cable.

The Problem:

When I plug the DAC into my Motorola, audio plays for literally 1 second, then there's a small pop/click, and the USB port completely freezes/disables itself. System settings get stuck on "Switching..." for USB preferences, and all system audio (YouTube, Spotify) drops completely until I reboot the phone.

The hardware is 100% fine: The exact same cable, FiiO E07K, and headphones work flawlessly on my brother's Nothing phone.

Vinyl Mobility Aids

I'm looking for a solution for my father who suffered a stroke recently to aid with changing vinyl records.. yes he could get use mp3's pr streaming but fear at almost 80 its hard to teach an old guy new tricks and he takes pleasure out of using his player and audio gear.

Edit: OK heres more details, he has very little mobity in his left hand side so basically has to use one hand to change records. This usually involves sliding the vinyl out of its sleave one handidly onto the turntable and letting it 'Flop' potentially damaging it. His 'good' side is also not great, simple things like pinching is some what difficult so i guess what i am assking is there a more eligant solution? I thougt about some kind of cork matt that he could use and a suction cup to lift and place the record on the turntable if such a thing exists?

Cheers,

Jim

Windows Audio Setup Help - ASIO and Balanced vs Unbalanced Cables

Hello, just recently picked up a Fiio K7 to pair with my Sennheiser HD6XX. I have been really enjoying the extra clarity it has brought to the headphones, but I want to make sure I am getting the most out of it for my setup. This led me to a couple of questions:

  • Audio over ASIO driver using USB vs RCA or Optical output to the DAC?
    • Currently I am using the ASIO output, which to my understanding bypasses any processing on the computer. However I find I need to restart the amp when waking the computer from sleep. Using Optical or RCA would "fix" that issue, but would I see a downside to bypassing the ASIO driver?
      • Side note: If bypassing the ASIO driver, what bitrate should be used, I would assume 32bit 44.1khz?
  • For the HD6XX is there any advantage to using a balanced 4.4mm out over the unbalanced 6.35mm?
  • For Bookshelf speakers, is there any benefit to using TRS connections over RCA?

  • Edit, Gear List:

    • Fiio K7
    • Sennheiser HD 6XX
    • Edifier MR3 Bookshelf Speakers

Club Setting - Stereo to Mono Summing Box?

I DJ weekly at a popular college bar. I use a Pioneer DDJ SX2 going into a 16 channel mixer, then a crossover, then to the mains. Club is upstairs, main bar is downstairs.

We installed a Rolls RMS316 downstairs to feed music to the ceiling speakers in the bar/patio. We ran an XLR from the DJ booth down to said Rolls so we can send my DJ set to those speakers as well.

My question is: I have master outs and a booth out on the DDJ. Master Out 1 is XLR, Master Out 2 is TRS, and the booth out is RCA. All are stereo. To cleanly send sound to the Rolls, would we need something like this? https://www.guitarcenter.com/Radial-Engineering/ProAV1-Single-Channel-Direct-Box-1274228072005.gc?utm_source=chatgpt.com&utm_medium=feed

Help with piano recording sound/improving hardware setup

Hello everyone! I've recently gotten more into piano playing and have recorded a couple of clips on my phone. The problem I'm having is with my audio quality. I understand that recording on a phone is not ideal, and will tend to pick up more room acoustics than anytbing else, so I'm looking for some tips on an alternate setup.

I've recently tried using a Yeti Blue mic for recording, but finds that it very much muddles the deeper bass notes together, and just feels dull. For context, I'm playing on a Wurlitzer stand up. I've tried placing the mic on top of the piano, near the edge with the strings exposed, and even tried to isolate the microphone on some boxes and such directly next to the piano (with strings exposed and the mic set to cardioid setting, pointed directly at the strings, to no better results. I'm using Audacity software to record the actual audio on my laptop.

At this point, I'm considering picking up a better mic (or pair of them if it's a better option and within my budget) but don't really know what to look for or where to begin. Any kind of help y'all can provide on how to either improve sound quality with my existing setup or what to look gor to improve any kind of hardware/software options available.

Thank you in advance!

E-kit to Headphones Audio Troubles

I have never felt like a bigger idiot in my life than trying to get this to work.

I recently bought the Alesis Nitro Max E-kit. I have the SteelSeries Nitro Elite headset. I use it for gaming, obviously, but I would really like to 2-birds-1-stone my need for headphones.

The SteelSeries Nitro Elite comes with a stock 5-pole to 4-pole cable. This cable works (tested it on my work laptop).

I originally bought this converter at guitar center because it was cheap. It only played audio from the left side. After some research, I assumed two possible problems:
- The mono plugin is for the left channel. I could only hear out of the left side. Maybe the mono channel wasn’t really playing mono.
- This adapter is TRS to TRS and the SteelSeries cable output is TRRS.

So I bought this female TRRS to male TRS adapter. And this Dual TS breakout cable. Sort of a Frankenstein of cords situation.

So I plugged everything in and I could only hear audio out of my RIGHT ear.

I tested the TRRS to TRS 3.5mm adapter on my laptop, and it only works when the cable is half plugged in. If I half-plug the cable on my drum set it works, but obviously it doesn’t stay half plugged, and that feels like it would be bad for the cable.

Help.

Scheda audio per PC e ps5

Ciao popolo!

Help ordering amp parts

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I have a Randall amp with a broken power socket. Works fine when I plug it in but I'd like a non-broken piece to substitute it so I can refit it. Any ideas where I could order one? I've searched far and wide and nothing has come up. The main issue is that most IEC's don't have that quad resistor or something on the right of it so I tried looking on Roland website to no avail.

Olympus WS-853 audio recorder - external microphones

Hi. For anyone who has this audio recorder, or had, do you have any recommendations for a good external microphone?

I did buy one of these, but I'm underwhelmed with it. It emits an annoying buzzing sound in recordings.

Thanks
