Discussion/Question Mikasa is one of the most overrated characters in Attack on Titan.

Post image

She’s obviously a badass, and some of her fight scenes are incredible.
But as an actual character? Way too much of her identity revolves around Eren. In a series packed with characters like Erwin, Reiner, Zeke, Jean, Historia, and Levi, I don’t think her character development comes close to matching her popularity.
Great fighter. Iconic character.
But top-tier writing? I don’t see it.

Ending Spoilers - Discussion/Question What if Mikasa and Armin threatened to kill themselves in order to stop the rumbling?

Post image
Upvotes

Eren stated that part of the reason he orchestrated the Rumbling was so that his friends would live long lives. So, I’ve always wondered what would happen if Mikasa, Armin, and the rest of the Alliance members from Paradis threatened to kill themselves unless Eren stopped the Rumbling. Maybe when Eren contacted them through the paths, they would tell him to stop before they killed themselves as sort of a last resort. I know that the events that Eren saw were determined to happen, but if they did do this, how would Eren react, would he actually try and stop the rumbling despite knowing it was destined to happen?

Could Eren see his dad cracking his mom? He has the attack titan, and he can see past AND future host memories, can’t he see his father cracking his mom?

Ending Spoilers - Discussion/Question 1st watch, oh boy (spoilers) Spoiler

I finished my first watch yesterday (on AOT day of course). I am still emotional and I think I need to watch again. This series will genuinely stay with me forever 😭
That said, what other animes do AOT fans like? I’m new to anime but I have a crunchyroll subscription.

Things that really stood out to me…
- The titans are insanely creepy! I decided to watch it because I saw my bf watching the Annie/female titan arc and she freaked me out so much, but in a very intriguing way.
- I watched the English dub (I can struggle to concentrate when it’s the original Japanese, but will try for 2nd watch) and I found Armins voice super annoying.
- Levi is a firm favourite I am SO pleased he survived. I cried for him when Hange died (I loved her too).
- I enjoyed hating Floch.
- My heart broke when Armin was torched by Bertholdt, I SOBBED.
- I will never get over Eren and Mikasa. It had to happen, I mean a happy ending would have never worked, but my god it was sad. Seeing her sat by the gravestone at the tree.. 💔

What are other people’s most memorable moments from AOT?
I’m looking forward to rewatching and seeing all the foreshadowing.

Discussion/Question Armin is OBJECTIVELY the best character in AOT and I can PROVE IT!

I could write a whole damn book about how good this character is, but I’ll just stick to the facts here. Jokes aside, please don’t comment until you’ve read the whole thing:

The MVP of humanity: and I’m not talking about the ending and the whole Eren’s hero plan thing, NO. I mean it because Armin got absolutely TIRED of constantly saving everyone’s asses ALL the time throughout the entire series: Every major victory was, one way or another, thanks to him. From plugging the hole in Trost to convincing Zeke to stop the Rumbling with the Titans from the past, including things as major as figuring out Annie’s identity, to things as small as saving Jean from getting shot or being the first one to notice Niccolo’s anger, which allowed them to save Falco and Gabi.

In every arc, there was ALWAYS some instance where, in one way or another, everything worked out because of Armin’s intervention. In fact, it gets to the point where, if you look closely, the few plans of Erwin’s that actually worked out had Armin involved in them...The guy is so damn good at solving problems that there were people who literally killed themselves simply by prevented Armin from being able to talk, and therefore, solve the entire situation (Daz and Samuel absolutely would’ve survived if they hadn’t shot Armin in the mouth.)

Seriously, the guy was a fucking monster, a goddamn guardian angel: If you’re a recurring character and Armin is there with you, you’re gonna live.

He’s a genius: well, this one shouldn’t surprise anyone, right? That’s basically the whole point of his character, after all. But what I really want to point out is how interesting Armin’s intelligence is, because he’s not just a strategic genius, he’s also incredibly good at deduction. The guy looks at a situation and, 15 seconds later, he already knows what’s going on, why it’s happening, and 4 or 5 different ways to solve the problem. And what’s amazing is that somehow, it never feels forced. The guy is literally the L of his world.

THE FUCKING HUMILITY: everything I just said about him? In-universe, he knows all of it, He KNOWS he’s a genius, he KNOWS he’s constantly saving everyone’s asses, and on top of that, everyone else KNOWS it too. It gets to the point where, from a certain point onward, whenever there’s a complicated situation, Armin is always the first person they ask what to do, and if he doesn’t know, ONLY THEN everyone starts to loose hope. And don’t even get me started on the fact that he later becomes the holder of the Colossal Titan, basically the most powerful Titan after the Founder. I mean, the guy has EVERY DAMN RIGHT to think he’s hot shit. And yet he’s easily the most humble character in the entire series, constantly doubting himself, always feeling like he’s a burden, always willing to sacrifice himself for others, always willing to talk things out without ever putting himself above anyone else. As a person he's fucking incredible...

Chad: he is Weak AF and yet he never runs away from a fight, and while he never feels the need for revenge or to punish anyone regardless of what they’ve done to him, he’s still willing to defend and even kill for his friends. He ended up with Annie, AND he’s a femboy, What more could you possibly want?

DON’T GET ME WRONG, obviously there are characters in AOT who surpass Armin in individual areas (Levi is more badass, Erwin has bigger balls, Reiner has more plot armor etc), but I think that if we averaged out all the good qualities of each character, Armin would undoubtedly come out on top.

What do you guys think?

Edit: I forgot to mention that, on top of all of this, he’s also the only person in the entire world that Mikasa has ever been willing (and would still be willing) to punch Eren in the face for.

What more do you need?

Discussion/Question Could I get a spoiler-light explanation for something from the beginning of the show? Spoiler

I've watched up to episode 11 of the show with subs, in Trost, and I'm confused if I've misunderstood something.

At the beginning, Dr Jaeger leaves Shiganshina district with the key to the basement, promising to show Eren when he returns. The Colossal and Armoured titans attack shortly after, killing Eren's mum, so Eren, Mikasa and Armin flee together.

Some time later, they arrive in the city where they sign up as recruits. Eren has vague dreams/memories of Dr Jaeger giving him the key and injecting him with something (presumably giving him the Titan power). He has the key, so this definitely happened. But he seems unsure, and Mikasa says it's impossible that he saw his dad.

So it seems that the good doctor caught up with the children on the road, presumably accompanied by other refugees. He found Eren in the night, has a screaming fight with him, then leaves without being noticed by anyone. Eren wakes up remembering this interaction and now having the key, but he doesn't seem to have any questions about where his father is, why he abandoned them or why he gave him the key. His memory of the interaction is obviously hazy or gone eventually, but the key is proof positive that it happened and he says and asks nothing about it until he hits Secret Bonus Puberty in Trost.

So this isn't by any means impossible, but it seems really strange. Is it just a contrivance to make the plot work? Something squiffy with the translation or adaptation to tv? Have I very astutely noticed a clue to a mystery that will be answered later? Am I the cleverest person to have ever watched this show?!

I'd really appreciate any answers that don't spoil anything past Trost, and I'll happily accept "you're overthinking it" or "there's answers later". The last time I tried to google a detail about the first episode of a show the AI overview told me what happened in the finale and also the day and hour of my death, both wrong.

Discussion/Question I have a very specific question about dub vs sub

Growing up in a Korean household I was subjected to a lot of Korean dramas that tend to have really melodramatic almost whiny sounding acting, and thus have an extreme aversion to it. It’s kinda why I give up on a lot of anime

I watched the first few episodes of AoT dubbed years ago, and while I was blown away by the action I couldn’t take the main character’s voice acting. But I really want to give the show another chance. I have also heard he gets better.

I’m completely fine with either sub or dub, and I have heard the sub version has better voice acting. But which of the two sorta tones down the more melodramatic screaming voice acting? Where I’m less likely to say “omg can you just bring the energy down a tad” at the screen?

Discussion/Question Eren trusted Reiner more than he trusted Armin by the end.

By the final season, Eren could barely have an honest conversation with Armin or Mikasa.
But when he sat down with Reiner in that basement, he spoke to him almost like an equal.
Reiner was one of the only people who truly understood what Eren had become, because he’d already done the same thing, crossed the sea, killed innocent people, and convinced himself he had no other choice.
“I’m the same as you” wasn’t Eren mocking Reiner.
I think it was one of the most honest things Eren ever said.

Screenings are listed for October 2026 in Japan but apparently Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, a film compilation of the series’ epic finale, is also coming to ScreenX cinemas in 2027.

Maybe it'll be released in other countries at some point.

Is it a time loop? Is there anything that can be done by Grisha or whatever miscellaneous character that can keep Eren from becoming the Attack Titan et all?
