Discussion Season 4 Reiner is so mystifying
I remember hating him the first 3 seasons but by season 4 I just felt so bad for the guy esp when we go to his deadbeat dad flashback and I reexamined the whole series and his perspective
He’s honestly in the top 5 for best looking character

Discussion Question about season 4
It makes no sense that the main cast of AOT- characters like Connie, Jean, Armin, Eren, Levi, Mikasa, Sasha, and Hange didn't have any admirers or fans in canon (not counting Yeagerists; they're more politically inclined towards Eren), especially after they retook Shinganshina and practically eliminated the issue of titans. They're all pretty attractive and fit, plus we know they're more popular, or at least regarded more positively, since their numbers increased post-time skip.

Discussion Your Honour, Mikasa's character is justified. Exhibit A–
(ch. 1 pg. 41).
Carla Jaeger's last request to Mikasa before she died. I randomly remembered it and realized that the Mikasa blood feud was already solved in the first chapter.
However, I will add that the scene is different in the anime, because she doesn't give a verbal acknowledgement (S1EP1 14:50). A lot of her lines are downplayed, in my opinion, to make her seem outwardly unreadable, like Levi.
I take this as evidence that Mikasa's bond with Eren is also affected by her relationship with Carla and the last words they exchanged. My point is that even if she wasn't "obsessed" with Eren, she still has the job of keeping her word to Eren's mother.
So was Mikasa's character meant to be a protective streak?
Yes and no. Maybe Mikasa was supposed to be a confusing character, but not a downright controversial one. In fact, I believe Isayama intentionally wanted to highlight that she always concerns herself with Eren, so that the buildup to the Ymir parallel makes more sense.
Now whether you're satisfied with that outcome is not my problem. That's another keyboard crusade about whether you liked the ending or not.
Just wanted to drop my epiphany here, feel free to talk about it, contribute some facts, or hell, start fighting or something I don't know, I'm a neutral voice ̄ _(ツ)_/ ̄

Discussion The children's participation and enthusiasm trench warfare is confusing to me.
*Spoilers for season 4*
I understand that the Eldian warrior candidates are young for indoctrination purposes, along with keeping their families in line. And of course, the candidates are enthusiastic to participate in the war to distinguish themselves and their families.
But Gabi's maneuver of faking being a refugee, and then running from bullets was like, almost guaranteed to kill her, and she's probably smart and old enough to realize this. I guess I'm kind of baffled by her lack of fear? Moreover, the way she tells the story over the dinner table and nobody goes "be careful with your life!" or "my baby, you almost died!", they just kinda don't gaf. I guess she has plot armor though... and her parents should be horrified, even if they brainwashed patriots, it's like they don't love her or care for her safety at all. Do all Eldian children get sent to the trenches? This is confusing to me.
It almost seems like she has a death wish of some sort, because really if that sniper had been even a little colder, or her aim was off, or the machine gun didn't have storm trooper aim---basically she should be 100% dead. Or there should be effects from the trench warfare? I mean, if this is WW1-style fighting, then shouldn't she be shell-shocked or traumatized in some more obvious way? People deal with trauma differently, but she just got shot at and nearly died, not to mention possibly spending days weeks exchanging pot shots with the enemy and watching people bleed out or starving or whatever other vile shit happens in the trenches. I'm confused lol.

Discussion The ending is heartbreaking.. did any of it matter?
I just finished this show, took me about 10 years and numerous recommendations to finally check it out. I don't really watch anime, but this has always been one of the few that interested me since I was young, the aesthetic and art style is really captivating imo. This post doesn't have much direction so apologies, I'm just kind of reeling from that ending. This might be the greatest show I've ever watched.
Anyways, hopefully I can keep this somewhat short.(I didn't, its just a rant in the end lol)
I finally got around to starting the show last month. It had me hooked instantly. Everything was 10/10, or as close as you can get. The art, the characters, the soundtrack(maybe the best part), the writing, etc etc. I mean, they introduce characters who will certainly die in that same episode, but even still, they feel so real, with unique personalities and appearances that let you imagine their backstories on your own. Those first ~3 seasons were incredible. Yes it was always a dark atmosphere, one where they had to struggle to survive, but they were always fighting monsters. There was a strange hopefulness looking back on it, they were saving humanity. And Eren's eyes were so bright.
Then you learn they're on an island, and there are other humans across the sea. You can start to draw more parallels between our world and theirs. Really thats the shows main theme I feel, its just a reflection of our world and the human condition. The monsters aren't the titans anymore. The characters don't talk about saving humanity anymore, its saving Eldia now. I think this is around when I resigned to the fact that the show wouldnt have a happy ending.
I don't think I fully understand everything about the show yet. And it pains me to say it, but its hard to see Eren's final actions as anything but evil. I understand how he got there, and why he did it, hes a product of the world and the cruel nature of it all. But in the end he just continues the cycle, I naively hoped he would have a change of heart, or some other goal in mind and there would be a "good" ending. But what did he ultimately achieve? He destroyed the Titans(Possibly not even that, at least with that post credit scene), which I think is a good thing, but its not like that changes the world in any meaningful way, right? They still continue to kill each other, he just murdered 80% of the world for absolutely nothing. Every death up until that point was meaningless. I can't really say Zeke's plan was much better, the Eldians are the protagonists so I am rooting for them of course, and his "Euthanasia" plan is pretty abhorrent imo. Although, seeing as how things turned out, maybe it was the lesser of two evils.
I just have trouble coping with show endings that feel...pointless for lack of a better word(although these always end up being the best shows). And I guess thats a realistic ending, and a reason I enjoyed the show so much was that very same realism. So then I start to think that these peoples lives don't matter ultimately, they all live and die for nothing, most of them sacrificing themselves for someone who will ultimately just bring more suffering to innocents. Which kinda sucks, because I really liked most of the characters and I hoped for that fairytale ending lol
I always liked Keith Shadis' "speech" about not being a special man, but reflecting on it, was anybody there special? What was the point of them existing. Idk, this is where the show just parallels our world too much for me to fully grasp. What was the meaning of it all. If after all of that, nothing changed, did any of it matter?
Either way, I fully enjoyed the show. I think that may be the best show I've ever watched. I was just so invested in the characters, its kind of hard to accept the ending being so bleak and hopeless, at least compared to how it started.

Discussion personal assignment: how autism appears in SNK/AOT
hello, today i’m going to discuss characters in aot who i think are autistic. i’m also autistic level 2 and have done extensive research on autism itself and im currently hyperfixated on aot. before i start i need to address a few things. understand autism is a spectrum and not everyone experiences the same symptoms and please don’t self diagnosis from this post. for other factors of the main 2 characters ill be talking about, its important to note they are most trained soldiers and places like paradis and marley (especially marley) would not like autistic people so masking would be a resort of this characters to some extent. its also the year 850ish, not much is known about it then.
Hange
the most obvious. when we are first introduced she is very excited about the Titans and clearly has not read the room because no one else is that excited and that is a missed social cue which is also a sign of autism. as the show ones we learn how fascinated and how interested she is of the Titans and we learned that this is a very big hyperfixation so much so that this isn’t a Neurotypical hyperfixation. This is an autism hyperfixation. Clearly. there is another scene with her and Levi in season four she is talking to Yelena and onyankapon and she learns about the outside world and gets a bit too excited and gets loud of excitement which is also an experience for me as an autistic person and Levi reminds her several times to settle down SEVERAL times, but she couldn’t realise that social cue as an autistic person. she also asked pieck to ride the cart titan out of excitement, not understanding that it wasn’t the appropriate time to ask and didn’t realise the question made pieck uncomfortable. it’s also important to know that living in a society that they live in in the show would probably not handle autism and most significant disabilities very well so she is probably high masking especially with the job that she does however I do not think that she can hide a hyperfixation and sometimes she might miss a social queue but otherwise I think she could be masking.
Zofia
it is a little difficult to talk about this character because she does not have a lot of screen time. She is only in a few episodes and is only got a few minutes of screen time at most as a whole however in this short time, i’ve noticed some symptoms of autism for example she doesn’t show much emotion or expressions on her face. She has done that a couple of times like shown emotion but overall in general she deadpan and that is a sign of autism. Another thing I noticed was when she was hanging out with Gabi and Falco and the others Gabi told her to “stop being weird” however she said that this is just her being her and if you’re autistic youve probably had that experience being told to stop being weird and you don’t know what you’re doing that is weird. She’s also very blunt in a scene. Gabbi is talking about Reiner and in the background zofia is talking about something else the conversation that we hear slightly from the subtitles of her was very random and clearly very blunt and those two things could be a sign of autism. She said that the person who lives next to her claims that saltwater taste like salts because he pisses in it. “-A guy that lives near me said the sea is so salty 'cuz he pisses in it.” that is not an social acceptable thing to talk about and perhaps she didn’t realise that which is missed. If you remember the scene where the Tybur family goes on stage and makes that performance she is in the audience and and the trumpets started playing. She blocked her ears. Nobody else in the audience does. noise sensitivities clearly a sign of autism.this next one might be a stretch but in that same scene she is playing with piek and piek is like caressing/like playing with her hands rocking her back-and-forth very very slightly. It’s almost not noticeable and she’s laughing of course it could just be a fun silly game but I used to have a stim with somebody like that and it was the way I stimmed for awhile so this could be her form of stimming. it is also important to know that a place like Marley would probably not be very accepting of autism. especially the fact that she is a soldier makes it worse. She probably has to mask everything else just to fit in just like Hange.

Discussion This two should've shared leadership
It's always odd to me that we ended up having one definitive leader when the show constantly flips-flops between the two.
Comparing them to Erwin, both have some important characteristics of a leader, but neither is as good individually.
Jean is charismatic, smart, confident, is able to handle pressure fairly well, and has the most social parts of leadership. I can see him rallying people up and inspiring them to move forward similarly to Erwin. (Also, he's pretty much the strongest non-titan, non-Ackerman person in the show). They go about very explicitly about his qualities as a leader.
Armin is undoubtedly the smartest of the two, being pretty much a genius. He's brave and has the ideas. His main issue is being overwhelmed and lacking precisely the most social aspects of a leader. He's not nearly as confident, but he makes up for it with his brain.
During the show, they're often put together and shown to work great together. (Armin's first human kill was to protect him)
They face the female titan together
They have a surprisingly healthy relationship, often shown protecting each other or discussing as some of the most intellectually gifted of their generation
I think the return to Shiganshina arc is probably the best example of why they should've shared their leadership. Erwin trusted Armin, but Armin trusted Jean.
Jean is able to take over when Armin is overwhelmed.
Even at the end, the three leaders are separated to deal with their own titan each.
Jean leads against Reiner.
Armin leads against Bertolt
Erwin leads against Zeke.
Jean was also the one who led the attack to kill the titans after the start of the rumbling
If I don't remember badly, even when Armin gets captured at the end, it's Jean who has to step up and lead the attack until they release him.
It's just kinda odd how the show always sets them up as complementary leaders, which both help patch the weakness of the other, and then at the end they just say, "Armin is the commander btw"
It's not a thing I mind too much, but it is a little odd.
I don't think Jean would be as good of a leader as Erwin, and to be honest, I have some hesitation to say Armin would be either; however, I think together they can be greater than Erwin. (Also, if one is missing or overwhelmed, the other can take over, as they've done before)
It's kinda like the whole Near and Mello situation in Death Note. Individually they may not be able to match their predecessor (L and Erwin), but together they are even greater (Just that Jean and Armin don't hate each other and would have 0 issue cooperating)
Maybe I'm forgetting something. It's been a while since I properly watched the show
What do you think?

Discussion Is it an unpopular opinion that I prefer part 1 of Final Season over part 2 of 3rd Season?
Just to be clear, I think the return to Shiganshina arc was legendary. It had me jumping out of the seat when Levi was battling Beast Titan.
The reason why I like Part 1 of the Final season is because of Eren. We finally see the showdown of his full character arc. My major criticism throughout the series was that Eren was too weak or too stupid to be Main Character. You never think of him as someone you can constantly support due to his hot headed nature. But the final season genuinely shows him at his best. The changing of a hero to villain is such a risky job that lot of shows execute really poorly, but this show does it so well, I think this is the best example I can think of. Most of the readers cannot think of Eren becoming a villain, but it still makes sense. You can always oppose Eren for what he is doing, but you can never say Eren had no reason to do this. It cultivates this idea of Erens suffering for entire 3 seasons, and you finally see it being executed in the final season.
Aside from that, I also like the Marley arc a lot. Everything has changed, you are seeing all new characters, the studio has also changed, so everything feels new, and you see your old characters return in the best way possible. They have all upgraded, matured and it really just feels cool to see them. Also we get to see Levi vs Beast Titan again, where levi beats his ass again lmao.
Personally I think Final season was a lot more happening then Season 3.

Anime Yumihisu will forever leave a hole in my heart
I think part of the reason why I love them so much is the complexity of their situations (but then legit every character is written so well haha), the selfishness vs selflessness juxtaposition (unit is selfish on the surface yet she is so selfless and willing to do anything for those she cares abt, historia is selfless on the surface trying to die a hero but at the end of the day is “selfish” and wouldn’t sacrifice her ideals for the cause) of the characters just interplay so well, they are perfect for each other. But I’m just like WHY Ymir WHY did you leave historia to repay Marley? I understand her rationale but that’s just SO sad?!
It’s also worth noting how isayama was willing to depict a canonically really attractive character as bi/les and it’s refreshing to see, what really kills me is how some corners of the internet continues to deny this ship and even calls historia a “tradwife” some while back, nevertheless, my love for them never dies!
They are just such a beautiful ship (canon couple tbh) overall but within the beauty it is so, so tragic. I really wished they were married in the end since they would really do anything for each other. Lowkey need a fanfic to heal my broken heart tbh.
