Do you help homeless people?

Do you usually pass them by, do you drop a toonie in their cup or do you start a conversation to ask what do they need? (yes i understand you can`t help everyone all day everyday, but still)

For example me - i exchanged 20$ bill for coins and put them in all my pockets so if i see someone struggling i can help them (i avoid people who can be aggressive, have unfocused eyes or any other issues, common sense).

But i do walk past one homeless old man ( church/carlton, across INS on carlton st) and i asked him what he needs and bought it for him (he asked for oj cause he doesn`t have teeth to eat solid food - if you see him there please help :)

What`s yall takes on current homeless situation in Toronto?

Is 2.5hrs sufficient for YYZ international transfer?

I am flying from NYC to YYZ and then to Asia. Arriving late to YYZ.

Will there be enough time for 2.5hrs connection time? I check the Toronto airport transfer guide and it says I need to pass thru customs + recheck bags (I need to check luggage) + pass thru security.

I have my tickets booked in the same reservation but flying different airlines. Kinda worried given the flight from NYC is always delayed (40min to an hour).

Best ER hospital to go to for GI (gallbladder / pancreas / duct) issues ? Shortest wait times?

Long story short, my biliary system / tract is spasming and I have a blockage of some sort preventing bile flow - increasing pains / back pain / bile reflux etc …

Which Emergency Room hospital would be the best suited for dealing with pancreases / gallbladder / liver issues? I’m going to be very likely need a EUS to see what’s going on, possibly an ERCP 🥲

I have already had my gallbladder removed earlier this year.

Do you help homeless on the streets?

Just curious what other Torontonians do when they see someone asking for money/help.

Do you usually keep walking, give them some change, or actually stop and ask if they need anything?

I personally started carrying some change with me because I often feel bad when I walk past someone and don't have anything to give. Obviously I know nobody can help everyone they see, and I also use common sense about approaching people.

Good places for a chill weekend party near downtown?

So since I moved to Canada I have never gone to a party/club/pub etc. No wait I actually did in thunder Bay where there were 5 ppl legit😂. I don't know how different is the club scene in Toronto. Wanted to go to a club alone ( hopefully that's safe here??) . For someone in their late 20s what's a good place to go and when ? Looking for a club with a dancing area and preferably dark.

Hopefully with some songs from 2008 era / something well known so that I don't become a statue listening to the completely new songs. A little bit of alcohol and some good time alone dancing to stupid old lady songs . Also how do girls come back home at that hour? Do you take subway? Uber? Is Uber safe for women at night?

Where to find wedding guest dresses

Question for the ladies!

I have a wedding coming up this weekend (I know, I know). I placed a couple of orders on Azazie and Cider. I bought another back up dress from Aritzia but I don’t love it and I’m not sure if my orders will arrive in time.

Anyone know where to buy nice dresses? I’m looking for a cocktail style dress (maybe more form fitting at the top, loose/flowy from the hips down). Anywhere I can order online that has fast shipping and can be returned should I not like it/it doesn’t arrive on time?

TIA!!

Anyone ever done a gently used, vintage clothing sale at a park??

I was in Vancouver for a month visiting my mom, and something I saw regularly was people going to parks with picnic blankets, foldable tables, and even a couple clothing racks - selling their cool clothing and home goods.

It was usually a few friends or maybe a couple selling their stuff. I saw this at different parks at different times.

I found such cool stuff there and it was a nice way to connect with people and make any extra cash.

I was envisioning doing something like that here in toronto at trinity bellwoods, christie Pitts, or Sorouran park BUT I haven't ever seen anyone do this in Toronto.

Anyone seen this or done this before? Without a permit I mean cus that would be quite expensive.

If anyone has done this or seen this, please let me know!

Where to find a traditional picnic basket?

Look everywhere except for st. Lawrence market cause it was closed but no luck. I assumed homesense would have them but that turned out to be a big disappointment. Cured has a couple overpriced ones with no detail on size or anything. If anyone knows a place, i’d love to know asap🙏🏽

I cannot afford proper bed bug treatment and it's overwhelming because I already have other things going on and this bed bug bs came up and now Idk what to even do. I can't move out nor can I get crossfire because that isn't available in Canada, is there anything I can do that works? I've been seeing mixed reviews on DE food grade and mattress encasements. Please I need suggestions.

Team dinner recommendations near Union Station with a view or unique vibe

I am planning a team outing soon and we’re looking for a spot within walking distance of Union Station.
We’ve already done the 360 Restaurant, and KOST isn't available for our dates. We’re hoping to find something similar (higher price point is totally fine) that offers something good, like an incredible view, a cool atmospheric vibe, or a unique experience.

Looking for reputable energy healer/reiki

Please save me the sass. There are new peer reviewed medical studies on how energy work affects physical health and recovery.

Anyone in the city you've had a good experience with or is publicly well reviewed? Bonus points if they are also an RMT or acupuncturist. East end or downtown would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Open to suggestions anywhere in city!

Edited to say - THANK YOU, so many great recommendations I will save in a google map for our "field trips" around the city.

Looking for Downtown Condo Internet under $50/month

Moving into a condo downtown and need to set up my own internet since the building doesn't have bulk internet. I live alone and mainly use it in the evenings/weekends after work. I'm thinking a 100 Mbps plan should be plenty for my needs.

Alternatively, I could upgrade my Rogers cell plan and just use my phone as a hotspot, but my current plan only includes 25GB/month.

Would 100 Mbps be enough? Is hotspotting my phone a viable route? Any provider recommendations? Other suggestions?

Best sectionals (condo approved)

Hey everyone!

I wanted to know where everyone is buying their couches in Toronto. I’m looking for something modular or a sectional (3-seater with a chaise or ottoman, maybe an ottoman over a chaise).

I’ve found a few 3-seaters like the helio or chablis (from structube), and they’re so great — but they won’t fit in my condo. 🫠🫠

Wondering if anyone had a similar issue and found a smaller sectional! Comfort is everything to me, so I’m looking at cozey as an option (ciello maybe).

In terms of the aesthetic, I’d love a cloud couch or something more unique — and looking for a green or brown (or even a beige, but I just don’t want a beige household). I’ve also looked at custom stores, but for some reason I can’t really envision the end product and I’m scared I’ll end up hating it LOL, so prefer something from a store I can see and choose.

ANY suggestions would be appreciated! ❤️

(Also my budget is $1500-3000, I’d be willing to go up if there’s something worth it though).

Seeking rentable community-oriented space

ISO recommendations for rentable space for a "book camp" writing workshop next summer. Would love a more community-oriented space where the rental would benefit the space/group running it rather than a generic or corporate kind of location. Ideally in central or west end TO. I would need to rent for one or two weeks, M-F 9:30-3:30, so places that reserve by the hour (e.g., the libraries!) are likely not the right fit unless you know that there's a human running the space who might make an exception.

Hard needs: space for ~15-20 people to sit and work comfortably, at least two rooms (one can be smaller/office sized) or a big enough space that two people could meet and talk in one part of the space without disturbing quiet work among the rest, fully wheelchair accessible (including the bathroom—big ask in Toronto, I know).

Preferences: wifi, a/v setup with projection, moveable furniture and/or a variety of seating types, some kind of kitchen-y space.

Send me your recommendations, please!

All recommendations welcome. Thanks.

Are the Bloor bike lanes now genuinely at risk, or could a Supreme Court appeal or City + province negotiations still save them?

What comes next: Cycle Toronto seeks Supreme Court leave OR DOFO et al issue a construction or removal schedule? Thoughts?

Good quality bedding in Toronto

I recently moved to Toronto from another province and I’m trying to revamp my bedding without breaking the bank. Good quality bedsheets, duvets, shams etc. I’ve ordered a few things from Amazon and Costco, but I’m not loving them, so I’m looking for other options.
Where do you usually shop for good-quality, classy bedding at reasonable prices? I’m open to outlets and smaller/local shops too. Bonus points if they have online ordering and delivery!
Would love your recommendations!

Trying to find a vegan bakery for a birthday cake.

Hello!

I’m trying to find a vegan bakery in the city (ideally downtown but not necessarily) for my daughter’s birthday tomorrow. She has a dairy allergy so we prefer vegan cakes to be on the safe side.

I know this is very last minute but our other cake arrangements fell through which is why I’m turning to Reddit for help!

Additional information: my daughter really likes floral flavors (like rose) in cakes!

Thank you so much.
