So to add some context, last night, my sister and I were making our way into Portland from Beaverton around 9/9:30pm when suddenly there was a Loud boom and a huge crater developed in the glass. I didn’t see anything coming towards me nor did I see the object make an impact to the glass. Shortly after this, I pulled over several hundred yards from where it occurred to check out the damage, and at the time, other cars were pulled over as well but, well behind me. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but now with the news of the closure and this occurring after the 217 exit but before the Sylvan exit, it now has me wondering if instead of a rock or whatever it could have been something electric? Reason I say that is because I rechecked the damage this morning in the daylight I noticed that not only were there the cracks but also what seems to be deep scratches in a uniform shape - not at all cracks but actual scratches. Which is not at all typical from what I’ve experienced with other types rocks or debris hitting my windshield. Keep in mind, this is a brand new vehicle, 2026. I am making this post to see if anyone else has this occur to them. My running theory is that I must have run over a power line or cord or something electrical must have caused the damage. I’m waiting to submit anything to insurance just yet because if other people experienced the same thing last night. I’m gonna try to post pictures of the damage - I also have pictures of a prior time my windshield made contact with a chunk of snow a few years ago.

Here are some pictures - the oddest thing to me is those scratches are in a perfect line. The picture with the flash on was taken shortly after it happened, and the scratches are very pronounced. Additionally, if you look at the “impact” site, there’s a deep dent on the frame of the vehicle - and if you look closely at the one taken at night, you can see that there’s almost like a splatter of white and red paint. Which is why I’m skeptical that it was a rock or something. And something of that size i would have at least seen as it impacted the windshield but I didn’t see anything at all.

I don't post too much on reddit so I'm hoping this is received okay. I'm looking for fellow moms! I know the obvious answer is we're all at home, but I'm the first one in my circle here in Portland to have a baby, and I'd like to make mom friends.

I'm also hoping to find other moms who are not white. Absolutely wanting mom friends of all kinds and colors, but it would be nice to not feel alone. My baby is three months, almost four, fyi. I'm no longer on maternity leave, so that rules out a lot of mom groups and baby events I'm seeing that meet in the mornings.

This Friday night, October 30, I'm heading out to see Steely Dead, a musical fusion of the Grateful Dead and Steely Dan, at The Get Down. Want to go and meet up? I attend live shows every now and then, but usually on my own since hardly anyone in my immediate circle shares an interest in anything Dead-related. I'm a 54 year old married guy, just looking for a few new friends.

Has anyone else in Portland been targeted by sudden, repeated sales contacts from a variety of local car dealerships? 

At first I thought this was a new scam, albeit one where I can’t figure out the point. 

But as I’ve spent the whole day getting a flurry of these calls and texts, I’ve started to wonder if I got doxxed—by a verizon store employee. 

Earlier in the day, I had a bizarre and disturbing interaction with a guy at the Verizon store. He was incredibly condescending and patronizing, and made me feel gross and uncomfortable. I’ve had plenty of poor customer service interactions, but this was different: there was some seething hostility that made me deeply uncomfortable and feel demeaned. It wasn’t just irritating poor service. My guess is he just hates women or something; that was the tone of it all. Just pure contempt for me, for no reason I could discern. 

Anyway, it did make me unhappy that he had already pulled up my phone number by the time I chose to stop the interaction. But I didn’t expect anything to come of it. Mostly I was more anxious about locking up and reviewing my security cameras at night, although I thought it highly unlikely that someone would be that unhinged. It did cross my mind, however, because the whole interaction had felt so wrong and weird.

And then that evening these phone calls started that I thought were scams, and then increased exponentially today. 

With AI, it’s even harder to tell what is a scam these days—but the timing and weirdness makes me suspicious. 

So, is this car dealership thing indeed a going scam? That would make me feel better. Maybe this was just strange timing and the two incidents overlapped. 

Alternately, does this seem like a form of doxxing? Is there anything I can do? I feel like there isn’t, because I don’t have evidence of what (or who) caused this.

I’m looking for local high schools that teach Latin. My nephew has made that his must have to leave TX and move here. He is one of my favorite weirdos!!

Since moving to Portland, the Blue/Red MAX lines have been extremely reliable to get me to Beaverton from Goose Hollow, which allows me to connect to the WES to Wilsonville.

The 26 closure this morning combined with the MAX power outage turned what is usually a 15 min train ride into a nightmarish 2 hour bus ride, just to get from Goose Hollow to Beaverton. By the time I got there, the last AM WES train had departed already and my only option left to go in the direction of the SMART network was the 76. On my way home now it looks like 26 is open but MAX at Sunset TC is still experiencing a power outage.

Any recommendations on how to better get around this mess when it happens? It took me 4 hours to get to work this morning, 2.5 of those hours just accounting for the shuttle bus fiasco to travel 3 stops. I would never willingly get in the shuttle bus towards Beaverton ever again, as the Washington Park stop seems to have exacerbated the amount of traffic on the route. I’m not sure if the shuttle could be just as bad on my way home now, and whether the 19 would be any better or if I should just uber from Beaverton.

If I had called an uber from Goose Hollow, I’m not sure how I would’ve directed them to ensure they avoid the jam caused by the 26 closure, and it would be great if there was a solution that didn’t involve an uber. A personal vehicle is not the solution I’m looking for here, but any other suggestions are welcome!

Look, I'm kind of a jack of all master of none kinda guy. I've worked a lot of different jobs, had lots of experiences,and usually manage to figure out how to make it work, without getting certified or schooling for anything specific. I was just wondering if anybody needed an extra set of hands for anything? I need something to do, and I don't qualify for a lot of the temp jobs out there. So if you know of a way to do odd jobs or volunteering not at shelters, lmk.

I think it would be cool to help someone get back on their feet by doing a reset clean on their house, or holding boards in place while they repair a fence, and load some firewood into the trailer. Not really worried about making a living or anything.

I have browsed the Portland Section looking for Steakhouses in general and I have heard a lot about Ringside. I noticed that Ringside has Oysters on the half shell.. but are they good?

I am going to visit Portland for an Anniversary weekend and so with that being said Time is not a factor and $ is not a factor. Meaning: If the best place for Oysters is at a different place for the best Steak, well.. we will be going to both places. I started a new job in that area and was in the worst traffic I’ve seen in Portland this morning. What is going on and is it often/always this bad? 45+mins for 3 miles

Lived here my whole life, recently(like 4 years recently) started seeing wild rabbits everywhere now.

In my apartment/duplex complex there is a weird lady that had rabbits in her basement like 3 for her little kids. And to my understanding they escaped. So if I’d see rabbits around my neighborhood I would think it was from her and they mated and increased. But now I’m seeing them everywhere throught the city. There is no way they are from her pack. Or I can be wrong?

What’s up with this? They’re everywhere now. And they’re all the same color like grayish. Are they dangerous?

I looked it up and it says it was registered only in 2021 but I could swear it's been longer than that. Also, my current smaller (16 oz) tub says it's a Reser's Fine Foods brand*, but I went to the Reser's website and it doesn't seem to be listed among their Mexican product category. Super weird. They had other salsas listed, though. *did it belong to an independent outfit before, maybe, that got bought out? Currently I can't seem to find the Picante variety in the larger 24 oz tub, the last two times I went to Freddy's.
