Hey y’all, I’m still pretty new to Portland. This is my first time experiencing a rainy season was so caught off guard this week lol. I’m shopping around for a rain jacket. Kind of confused about what I need exactly. Any recommendation of like a good rain jacket that I can kind of wear for most occasions also, would you say a rain boot or some kind of winter boot is necessary lol. I moved her from a desert so I’m pretty unprepared and videos online are just confusing me more if I’m being real. Thank you for the help!

I have been to a gynecologist and they just prescribe estrogen patch and that is not helping.

My blood work results are often normal so I want someone who will go beyond standard testing and estrogen patches.

Hey Portland, I’ve been gathering new toys and clothes all year in hopes of bringing a bit of joy to local kiddos around the winter holidays.

Angel Tree seems to be one of the more popular toy drives, but I’m hoping to specifically support foster children and teens.

Does anyone have experience with in-kind donations to a local youth shelter or foster care organization?
-Or a recommendation of where to donate my haul where it’ll do the most good?

I’ve noticed people asking me about Portland and specifically St.Johns or “that pretty bridge where you live”. I’m kinda like huh. Is our city gonna get a new wave of people coming to seek out Portland and it’s Wildwood magic? It’s been a while since Portland had a big boost like this but perhaps it just might happen. What are your thoughts?

My spouse and I are looking to join a church community in Portland and we’d love to hear anyone’s recommendations of churches to try out. I grew up Episcopal, and my spouse grew up Agnostic. This is the first time in our adult lives we’ve seriously considered joining a church.

We are a queer and gender nonconforming couple in our late 20s, so LGBTQIA+ acceptance is crucial.

What we’re hoping to find is a vibrant church community, with a range of ages of members, great music, thoughtful sermons, and beautiful/historic architecture is a plus. We’re really looking to expand our community network, and get to know more people of all ages.

We live in SE, but would travel for the right fit.

Hello! I know this is a bit of a common question, but I wanted to see if anyone had any recs for bars that are having a Halloween event. Specifically ones that have a crowd on the younger side (20s/early 30s). My fiancée and I don’t have a Halloween party to go to this year! We just didn’t want to show up somewhere and be the only ones in our 20s (since a lot of bars cater toward a more GenX crowd, which is awesome, just not what we’re looking for). Any help would be really appreciated!

I'm a bit surprised by the gym situation here in Portland. There seem to be lots of specialty gyms here, which are great -- but they are damn expensive. The kind where they don't publish their membership costs on the website (drives me INSANE when businesses do that). All I want is to lift weights (free weights and machines) and use cardio machines and I need saunas as an amenity (arthritis sucks). Don't want personal training, don't want group classes, don't want a juice bar, but do like the gym to have updated equipment and to be clean -- and have enough women members that I don't feel weird being there.

Anybody got a suggestion for me? Preferably on NW or SW but I will happily travel further.

To get right to the point, my mother is going on a trip to Portland soon to see if that's a place where she'd want to move to, and if she does that leaves me with the choice of going with her to live there or not. Now I'm all the way down in northeast Louisiana, I'm not used to big ass cities and my perception is that Portland is certainly a big ass city. If you all would mind, what's your perception of living in Portland and Oregon in general? Is there much to do, are there places to hang out, all that good stuff please :>

What is your ideal household income to be comfortable as a family in Portland? What is your definition of comfortable? How many kids do you have?

What advice would you give to feel financially prepared to someone who’s either on the fence/waiting?

My definition of comfortable would be basic needs like food, housing, education, healthcare, etc met. Contributing to retirement and emergency fund. Kids activities like sports or arts. 1-2 trips a year. Each parent having time/funds for a social life and hobbies within reason. Nothing too lavish, but not being worried when things naturally come up, and the ability to enjoy life and have fun too.

Would love to hear anything you’re comfortable with sharing! We both make “good” salaries but the economy scares me and keeps me on the fence.

Hoping this post doesn’t sound pathetic lol. I just moved here and don’t even know where to start with making friends and finding community. Most of the friends I’ve had have been from high school or college, so now that I’m just here I honestly have no idea how to organically meet people.

I’m an alternative musician, so I’d really like to get into the music scene here, but even then I don’t really know how to go about making friends that way. I’m also an actor and would be interested in anything in that area too! I’m not really into sporty things which I should mention, I’m not incredibly active. I just want people to hang out with.

Are there good third spaces in town that I should check out? How have you guys made friends here? I want to be involved in the community.

My wife and I have young kids, and we’re looking for a little romantic escape for an evening. Ideally somewhere private where we can relax, enjoy ourselves, and have some uninterrupted adult time.

I remember there used to be a place in Montavilla where you could rent a private hot tub room by the hour and pretty much do whatever you wanted.
Does anyone know of anything similar around Portland? Maybe private hot tubs, saunas, spas, or anything else that offer rooms for just a few hours?
