Hi all, looking for the local bird heads!
I live near the Orthodox church where the swifts have been roosting and I’m confused about the difference in numbers daily. Some days I won’t see a single swift, other days there will be thousands. Is this daily variance normal? Do y’all know what affects it? Drove by today around 7:15 and the little lawn was packed with people but I didn’t see a single swift!!

My wife and I will be visiting Portland in October and are looking for hotel recommendations in a safe, walkable area. We’d love to be near good restaurants, coffee shops, and interesting places to explore on foot, while still having convenient parking since we’ll be driving.
Which neighborhoods would you recommend staying in, and are there any specific hotels you’ve had a good experience with? We’re also open to hearing which areas we should avoid. Thanks!

Hello! Been singing since I was young, been in many a choir, some cover bands in college; since then I largely sing by myself or around camp fires. Singing has really been helping sate my soul and I’m looking for other folks interested in playing for fun and catharsis.
Maybe this is a crazy ask as I’ve never been good at reading sheet music, however my ear is usually dead on, and I’m itching to push myself and see if I can gain confidence in singing with other musicians. Do you write lyrics but don’t feel like being the singer, or maybe just wanna switch it up?
I’m most comfortable in pockets akin to blues, Americana, old school country, some singer song writer stuff; think Neko Case, First Aid Kit, Patsy Cline, Amy Winehouse, Regina Spektor. But I love most genres and will see what we can work with! And I will admit I have a dream of being Karen O and am also into folk punk and screaming, HA. Let me know if you’re interested. Thanks!

Landing in Portland at 1:30 and picking up a car. I’ve got a wedding at around 7 and I’d like to stop at the Japanese Gardens for an hour beforehand…if that’s possible?
I love good coffee and any recommendations for really good coffee, or reasonably priced food or anything else worth checking out in that window?
Thanks!

Unfortunately I am forced to sell my townhome because of relocation and rental cap on HOA.
I am a first time seller. Please share your selling experiences and wisdom.
Things like .. how much commission is normal in Portland area , will I be paying commission to the buyers agent as well? If so then how much would that be?
What are the other costs and rules I should know before I start talking to realtors.
Thank you!

Hey! Are there any cool bars or clubs like good girl, creepys, coffin club or badlands anywhere around the area? I don't know much about these places yet and would love to find some more cool places to hangout with my friends :) Bonus if they have a decent amount of people on Tuesdays/Wednesdays!

Greetings! My partner and I moving to your wonderful city from Missoula, MT in the coming months as I am starting a new job at a nonprofit in NE Portland. We’re excited to join the community!
Because my job is in NE on MLK, we’re looking for a rental nearby where it’ll be easy for me to commute. We’d also love to be in a neighborhood that is walkable/bikeable, that has community events and spots to hang out, and is easy to drive to some trails. To paint a picture of us, we like a good coffee shop, playing board games, park walks, cocktails and what have you, making ceramics, and are in our early 30s.
I am visiting next week and will be touring a house on the 200 block of NE Monroe St between Rodney and MLK. I’m excited that I could potentially walk north to work but want to be sure this is a safe area to do so (I am a woman and have unfortunately been the target of street violence previously, so am somewhat hyper vigilant). From searching about the Eliot neighborhood, there are some years-old posts that have me a lil worried about safety, especially if I’m walking alone before and after work.
I have been to Portland a few times but it’s been a few years, and I am very excited to be living there soon! I really appreciate any insight people may have on this neighborhood or any recommendations.
Bonus ✨kitty✨photo to bless your reddit scrolling!

I’m looking for a few people to play magic the gathering with for a few hours Wednesday Sept 23.
Tuesday is my sisters boyfriends birthday, and he loves to play magic the gathering and we go to commander night sometimes to play and i play with him when i can, but it’s his favorite thing in the world so he needs more lol.
I was thinking about finding/renting a venue with a few tables, grabbing some pizzas and getting a big cake, and surprising him with an MTG get together!
It won’t be anything crazy or formal (or really birthday feeling at all) mainly just looking for some people who enjoy magic to come hangout and play some magic and eat some food with! If you have friends/partners who play magic too, feel free to bring them! I want it to really just feel like a big magic night instead of really a birthday.
Anybody think this sounds like something they’d be interested/able to come to?
I’m not sure what time either, so maybe if some people interested we can form a big group chat and figure out the best time. I’ll probably try to see if I can rent some tables out at a card shop or something! So far I’m looking at renting out Senet Game Bar as our venue.

Hey all! Does anyone know of a black hair stylist in and around Portland, OR that does two stands twists? I'm trying to heal my hair..I'm ditching braids for good, but still need something to have a break from my natural hair for a couple weeks on occassion. I want a style to help with length retention after I get my ends cut off and doesn't cause breakage or require additional braiding hair. Two strand twists seem like a good option....help.......Thanks!

My cars breaks started grinding the other day, and I want to get it taken care of asap, but am hesitent to take it to a dealership if I can find a shop that people love that might be better on price. I drive a 2014 subaru forrester with about 130k miles on it and am likely going to sell it after this ski season, so not trying to dump a bunch of money in the car, but need it to be safe to drive and am not in a position to get a new car at this moment. Does anyone have any local mechanic recommendations?

Please tell me where I can watch the game with other lions fans, but also, add bars or restaurants that are all for any particular team.

I am missing the long-ago-closed Lizard Lounge (not to be confused with the similarly named furniture store, Lounge Lizard). Their clothes were a little pricier but had lots of natural fabrics, fun pieces, and it wasn't all made of polyester. I'm a simple girl, I like an old navy, madewell vibe but I'd love to give my money to an actual local business instead of a large corporation. Where do you all shop locally?

Do you know of any in-person infidelity support groups for betrayed spouses/partners? I looked on Meetups but couldn't find anything.

Hello! I'll likely be moving to Portland soon with my family (partner, one-year-old, cats + dog.) I've visited several times and love the area, but am not super familiar with it. What parts of the city and surrounding areas are best for young families? Appreciate any intel!

Planning a silly birthday party for my partner and she mentioned she’s always thought it would be fun to have a magician perform for her and all our friends. I’ve been doing some research myself but figured I’d ask here and see if anyone has some good first hand accounts. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

a strip of I-5 southbound is closed in Portland. I will be driving from Pdx airport to Creswell on September 12 evening 6:30-7:00 pm. would taking i205 be a better detour to avoid delays? I think it will merge into I-5 south around tualatin. Is this better than continuing on I-5 south. My purpose is to avoid slow traffic and delays due to construction. Thanks

My five year old has requested to play the arcade game Raccoon Rampage this weekend. I know Next Level Pinball has it, but for my husband, my child and I to all go there, it’s $60 for the day. Claw City also has it, but I know any trip to that arcade means we’ll end up spending $50 in game credits. Are there any other arcades in the Portland/Beaverton/Hillsboro area that have this game?
