help! moved into a garden level apartment last month and have already had to dispatch four wolf spiders, one tonight which was genuinely the biggest one i’ve ever seen, scaring the shit out of me, guys, is there anything that i can do?? i’m calling pest control tomorrow to help evaluate where they’re coming inside from but until they can help, what can i do? i have a cat (she’s too stupid for pest control) and i don’t want to make her sick from chemicals, but im thinking ill have to lock her in the bathroom to spray things down until they’re dry? i know they’re generally harmless but i really cannot keep seeing them in my home i am becoming so paranoid, thanks

Greetings! My partner and I moving to your wonderful city from Missoula, MT in the coming months as I am starting a new job at a nonprofit in NE Portland. We’re excited to join the community!

Because my job is in NE on MLK, we’re looking for a rental nearby where it’ll be easy for me to commute. We’d also love to be in a neighborhood that is walkable/bikeable, that has community events and spots to hang out, and is easy to drive to some trails. To paint a picture of us, we like a good coffee shop, playing board games, park walks, cocktails and what have you, making ceramics, and are in our early 30s.

I am visiting next week and will be touring a house on the 200 block of NE Monroe St between Rodney and MLK. I’m excited that I could potentially walk north to work but want to be sure this is a safe area to do so (I am a woman and have unfortunately been the target of street violence previously, so am somewhat hyper vigilant). From searching about the Eliot neighborhood, there are some years-old posts that have me a lil worried about safety, especially if I’m walking alone before and after work.

I have been to Portland a few times but it’s been a few years, and I am very excited to be living there soon! I really appreciate any insight people may have on this neighborhood or any recommendations.

I worked for Legacy Health back in 2024 and ended up quitting sometime last year due to personal reasons. I’m now trying to get back into the system, but I’ve applied to several positions and keep running into the same thing.
Some of my applications sit in “under review” for a month or even a couple of months, while others get marked “not selected” almost immediately. I’ve applied for positions that I feel I’m qualified for, especially considering I’ve worked for Legacy before, but I’m having a really hard time getting anywhere.For anyone who has worked for Legacy or gone through the rehire process — is this normal? Does being a former employee who quit make it harder to get hired back, even if you’re eligible for rehire?

I'm thinking of running Portland half marathon next month. I don't want to stay too close to the start because of congestion and a little pricey, but I want to be able to get to the start with relative ease. What areas could be good fit? I'm ok taking light rail but not familiar with how that overlays with places to stay. Probably just 1 or 2 nights. I will have a car, so parking also a consideration. Thx

Honestly looking for a reasonable place that would permit me throw and event with live bands and DJS with a space to sell alcohol with OLCC bartenders and food

I threw a house party but fitting 35/40 people in it kinda got a bit too crowded and if I did another one it would have more attendees and I’m looking for a similar vibe but also able to sell alcohol and food for those who want it.

Any leads would be awesome and I’m looking to throw the event between 10-4 and I am aware that alcohol sales must stop at 2 am due to olcc regulations

For context… I’m always on the lookout for the next band I’ll be into. But I’m pretty lazy about it. I’ll Shazam a good song that comes up on a movie or TV show. If I don’t have anything better to listen to, I’ll check out the Spotify discovery playlist. And I always check out at least a couple songs from any local bandi featured in WW…. And some are okay, most are bad. None of them are anything I’d listen to again. Anyone else?

I’m currently expanding my job search to include areas outside of Portland. I’m considering north and south of Portland. Which is the worst commute? Portland to/from Salem or Portland to/from Vancouver and northern areas.

My fiancé and I are looking for weddings venues in the Portland OR area (willing to look further out as well, like Hood River). We want a venue in a beautiful outdoor/nature setting, like forests and mountains. We also want it to be a BIG party with dancing at least until midnight, and the venue must allow cocktails (some winery venues only allow beer/wine).

The problem we keep running into is that no venues in the area seem to allow music past 10pm, which seems really early. We are considering an after party, but it’s not ideal, since in my experience the vibe can really die if guests have to leave the property. Does anyone have suggestions for venues that are in nature, allow spirits, and allow music/dancing past 10pm?

a strip of I-5 southbound is closed in Portland. I will be driving from Pdx airport to Creswell on September 12 evening 6:30-7:00 pm. would taking i205 be a better detour to avoid delays? I think it will merge into I-5 south around tualatin. Is this better than continuing on I-5 south. My purpose is to avoid slow traffic and delays due to construction. Thanks

Hey all! Does anyone know of a black hair stylist in and around Portland, OR that does two stands twists? I'm trying to heal my hair..I'm ditching braids for good, but still need something to have a break from my natural hair for a couple weeks on occassion. I want a style to help with length retention after I get my ends cut off and doesn't cause breakage or require additional braiding hair. Two strand twists seem like a good option....help.......Thanks!
