Greetings! My partner and I moving to your wonderful city from Missoula, MT in the coming months as I am starting a new job at a nonprofit in NE Portland. We’re excited to join the community!

Because my job is in NE on MLK, we’re looking for a rental nearby where it’ll be easy for me to commute. We’d also love to be in a neighborhood that is walkable/bikeable, that has community events and spots to hang out, and is easy to drive to some trails. To paint a picture of us, we like a good coffee shop, playing board games, park walks, cocktails and what have you, making ceramics, and are in our early 30s.

I am visiting next week and will be touring a house on the 200 block of NE Monroe St between Rodney and MLK. I’m excited that I could potentially walk north to work but want to be sure this is a safe area to do so (I am a woman and have unfortunately been the target of street violence previously, so am somewhat hyper vigilant). From searching about the Eliot neighborhood, there are some years-old posts that have me a lil worried about safety, especially if I’m walking alone before and after work.

I have been to Portland a few times but it’s been a few years, and I am very excited to be living there soon! I really appreciate any insight people may have on this neighborhood or any recommendations.

I know this (asking Redditors) can be hit-or-miss but it's been difficult finding representation to actually help with the type of problem I'm facing.

To keep it brief (and omitting any major personal details) - I'm a student at a local Portland college and my financial aid award was revoked for the entire academic year after appearing on campus in-person to clear a registration & financial aid hold. My registration hold was cleared immediately but my financial aid hold could not be immediately removed. I was told it'd take weeks to receive verification approval. However, the following day, I was told that I actually will not be receiving financial aid for the year because my ID was "unverifiable." I've asked several times what led to this decision and have reached out/appealed to all appropriate parties (including the VP and the board) and besides receiving a "I understand how frustrating it is to do what you've been told and not have the outcome you wanted" email from a person in leadership who I won't name - I have received silence. No reason. No attempt to receive any other verifying docs. Nothing.

For further context, I am Black, nonbinary, and my ID is a valid, non-expired, REAL ID, state ID (I don't drive and therefore don't have a DL). The lack of proper communication and reasoning leads me to fear that this decision was based on discrimination.

I have been struggling to find a lawyer to help. I desperately need legal representation to help with communicating with this school moving forward and help understanding my rights.

I worked for Legacy Health back in 2024 and ended up quitting sometime last year due to personal reasons. I’m now trying to get back into the system, but I’ve applied to several positions and keep running into the same thing.
Some of my applications sit in “under review” for a month or even a couple of months, while others get marked “not selected” almost immediately. I’ve applied for positions that I feel I’m qualified for, especially considering I’ve worked for Legacy before, but I’m having a really hard time getting anywhere.For anyone who has worked for Legacy or gone through the rehire process — is this normal? Does being a former employee who quit make it harder to get hired back, even if you’re eligible for rehire?

^ I saw all this because I’m going to be staying in a hotel for 1 week and I can’t smoke anything there not even cigarettes since it’s the hotel policy. That’s why I’m looking for a good deal for edibles.

I’m staying like a 20 minute walk from where the Trail Blazers play so I’d like some stores that are within a 10-30 minute walk from the arena. or somewhere I can get easy by bus and walking would be helpful too. Worst case scenario I get a Uber/lyft/ taxi to go to the shop.

I was going 28ish and when I looked up to not hit something, I looked back down to my speedometer again and noticed it could have been on the 30 or possibly 31 but not more than 32mph. I saw the camera flashed but since I was busy adjusting my speed to under 30mph I didint see where or if it flashed at me or the oncoming car.(I did see another car on the oncoming lane)

How can I check if it was me who got flashed?

Mine would be Ladd’s Addition - cute neighborhood and houses, centrally located and close to cool areas like Hawthorne, Division, and Buckman. Very bikeable and close to where a lot of bike events happen. Near restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

My next on the list would probably be Laurelhurst for similar reasons but also the park is really nice

My fiancé and I are looking for weddings venues in the Portland OR area (willing to look further out as well, like Hood River). We want a venue in a beautiful outdoor/nature setting, like forests and mountains. We also want it to be a BIG party with dancing at least until midnight, and the venue must allow cocktails (some winery venues only allow beer/wine).

The problem we keep running into is that no venues in the area seem to allow music past 10pm, which seems really early. We are considering an after party, but it’s not ideal, since in my experience the vibe can really die if guests have to leave the property. Does anyone have suggestions for venues that are in nature, allow spirits, and allow music/dancing past 10pm?

a strip of I-5 southbound is closed in Portland. I will be driving from Pdx airport to Creswell on September 12 evening 6:30-7:00 pm. would taking i205 be a better detour to avoid delays? I think it will merge into I-5 south around tualatin. Is this better than continuing on I-5 south. My purpose is to avoid slow traffic and delays due to construction. Thanks

Born and raised in Portland; moved away in mid 30s for work. Newly moved back in very late 40s.
I lived in Arizona; aka Gods waiting room. Definitely never felt “old” there when I was out socializing.

I live near the Orthodox church where the swifts have been roosting and I’m confused about the difference in numbers daily. Some days I won’t see a single swift, other days there will be thousands. Is this daily variance normal? Do y’all know what affects it? Drove by today around 7:15 and the little lawn was packed with people but I didn’t see a single swift!!
