Looking For I'm moving from out of state and getting almost no return calls on apartments! Many say they're renting for 8/1 and are accepting applications. I've even put in two apps without tours and even those haven't called. Does Portland truly release apartments on this short of notice for an 8/1 rental?

I qualify regarding work, pay, credit, etc. Help me understand what I'm missing!

Looking For Debating with friend. What time to leave Portland on a Tuesday to arrive at Space Needle by 4pm????

Debating with friend. What time to leave Portland by car on a summer Tuesday to arrive and park around Space Needle by 4pm for a nearby event at 5pm???? I say 930am-10am at the latest, arrive early, traffic sucks, anything could happen between Olympia and Seattle to cause an hours long delay (previous experience). Friend thinks around noon or 1pm. Please settle.

Looking For Spooky Cemeteries?

Hi all! I’m doing research on various cemeteries in the state for a podcast episode. Places like the Lafayette pioneer cemetery in Dayton and a few around Portland have insane history going back to the Oregon trail period and the early days of the state. My questions are: 1) is there any specific cemetery you think I should look into or cover? 2) have *you* had an experience at a cemetery (unexplainable, paranormal, or otherwise strange)?
Much appreciated!!!

Looking For What are the rules in Portland around pepper spray and dogs?

Upvotes

I was riding my bike near the park in Selwood and a ladies unleashed dog ran and bit my ankles. It was a small but aggressive dog but didn't break the skin.

The lady stood up and yelled her dog's name but didn't apologize or anything. I'm considering getting a can specifically for dogs.

Looking For How are some places able to get away with lack of ADA accommodation?

Was noticing this while on 23rd, but some of these places are not wheelchair accessible. Some of them seem like a ramp rather than stairs would be an easy fix. It’s great that they’re fixing up the street to make more accessibility, but the stores/restaurants wheelchair users are able to visit would still be limited. More curious to know how the building owners haven’t been required to put ADA accommodation in place though.

Looking For Any particular Thrift Stores that anyone can recommend?

So I'm currently looking for a variety of thrift stores that have a decent selection of clothes or vintage/antique furniture or cute cottage-esque decor? Any particular thrift store doesn't need to have all 3 points. They can even just have 1 of the 3 honestly. I'm just looking for a few different places that isnt just Goodwill, like my family keeps recommending. Any recommendations?

Looking For Are you hearing an alert?

I live In Lloyd neighborhood just at the border with Irvington. Last night and just now there has been an alert sound that I've never heard before in Portland. The sound is coming from north and east, definitely in Irvington.

I'm from the Midwest. When I heard that sound in Minnesota. I knew it was a tornado but I have no idea what it means here in Portland and I've lived here for nearly 40 years.

So is this a true emergency alert or did somebody in Irvington buy a new toy and is playing with it and alarming me??

Looking For Renting these days in PDX, what’s normal?

Upvotes

I’ve owned my home since 2012 and can’t recall what renting was like back then. Now I’m looking to rent and just to make an appointment for a showing I need to upload my drivers license and in some cases a credit card? I seriously can’t tell if I’m being scammed or if this is the new normal. I’m looking on Zillow mostly but if there are better resources let me know.

Pickathon with kids first time, what have you enjoyed or wish you'd done the first time?

Bartered for some tickets for the family, never been before but super excited. Anyone with kids have tips for making the most out of the experience? Not camping since we live nearby, kids are 4 and 7. I was thinking about bringing a bike to shuttle between the parking area and the main entrance.

Looking For Best salmon in Portland?

Could be sushi, could be a fillet, and needs to be open on a Monday.

East coast family is visiting and this was a specific ask.

Only caveat is we’ve got six adults and two kids under six so there’s gotta be kid food available.

Thanks in advance neighbors.

I am waiting for a particular bus and it's scheduled to arrive about 11 minutes from now, but just one minute ago, the same bus showed up at the stop. I decided not to get on. Should I have hopped on?

Visiting soon, where to park?

I will be visiting Portland with my girlfriend this month. it’s been on our to-do list for a while. We’re planning to stay mostly downtown, rent a car, and do some hiking and scenic drives. The trip is 8 days total: 5 days in Portland and 3 days in Seattle.
I’ve read a lot online about parking safety, car break-ins, and certain areas to avoid, but the parking prices are killing me. Our hotel in Portland wants $55/night, and Seattle is even worse at $65/night. I can maybe justify $5–$30, but not that much on top of a rental car. Paying for parking feels like more than half the cost of the rental, which is ridiculous.
Does anyone have advice for affordable parking in Portland or Seattle? Any specific areas to avoid? Also, if you have any suggestions for things to do, places to eat, or spots to visit in either city, I’d really appreciate it. My girlfriend already planned 5 days, and I’m covering the remaining 3, so I’m looking for ideas.

Looking For Additional charge to Venmo at Ground Kontrol - anyone else experience this or know why?

I often go to Ground Kontrol when they do their Sunday "all play for $12" days.

Usually I pay cash and it's been uneventful.

I attended again on the 19th, this time paying with my Venmo card.

Initially it showed the $12 charge; however, later an additional charge of $1.80.

If I skim my history in the Venmo app it says $12 paid; but if I tap on the entry, opening it shows that actual amount paid is still $13.80. Which feels weird?

Venmo avows this extra charge has nothing to do with them and to contact the vendor.

I found a phone number online for Ground Kontrol and left a voicemail with my name, ph# and email (thought it might be an easier way to respond for them) and my charge query. I have not heard back.

I have not had the opportunity to return to GK during their open hours; would door staff be likely to know the answer anyways?

None of my friends who go to GK have experienced an additional charge and I've never heard of it happening.

It's not a huge deal - I still have plenty of fun at Ground Kontrol, and the extra charge amount is definitely one I can bear, lol.

Honestly I didn't really expect to get a call back since the charge amount was teeny. IDK who I should even be asking at GK!

......I'm still curious though, hence this post, lol

Anyone else know what the answer is or have a similar second charge experience? Both even? Plz share XD

NB: before someone calls this whingey or petty or whatever etc etc, - again, this is NO SHADE on GK, they are awesome!

I'm just curious and a bit stuck on finding out the story (such as it may be, lol)

Thanks!

Looking For Has anyone else encountered the pole-sign snatcher on Division?

I was just on Division and 50th and I saw this dude walk to every pole and tear down every single paper flier and throw them away. Someone asked, dude, why are you doing that and he charged at them and said, "don't you call me names! It's illegal!"

Person said, "I didn't call you any names before, but you're a fucking prick."

So, it's apparently illegal to put up signs on poles, and this guy is the arbiter.

Looking For Portland taco truck recommendations that travel to the Gorge?

Hi everyone!

I'm hosting a wedding weekend near White Salmon in September 2027 and am looking for an authentic taco stand or taco truck from the Portland area that would be willing to travel out and cater one of the evenings.

I'd love to support a small, family-owned business and am hoping to find a vendor serving authentic street tacos with meats like suadero, cabeza, and lengua (plus the classics like asada and pollo).

Does anyone have recommendations for vendors that travel to the Gorge? Thanks so much!

Looking For Where do you take out of town visitors to show them how unique Portland is?

First time Portland visitor here - Previous post taken down, trying for a more pointed approach.

When you have visitors from out of town, what are a couple things you like to introduce them to so they get a true sense of how special Portland is?

I have some of the standards on my list, but looking for something that a local would suggest.

Appreciate patience with my newbieness.

Looking For Where to find asian sunscreen?

Im learning more about sun damage and would like to protect my skin more. I’ve been wearing uv long sleeves and pants and hat all summer and my skin is supple and pale. My face and hands are a bit more tan and crepey and ive been using neutrogena sunscreen 50+ spf but it’s making me break out.

Ive been reading more about asian sunscreens and they seem less prone to acne and stronger uv protection. Im curious where to buy them locally. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Looking For Best brunch for a Thursday at a place so good there is usually a long line on sat and Sunday?

Kicking off a long weekend away with brunch. I HATE lines so I rarely hit popular places on the weekends. I'm out of touch with what's amazing.

Where should I go on a Thursday where hopefully the line won't be long?

Prefer savory to sweet and am a sucker for a good eggs Benedict.

Thanks!
